I really liked having a Rooster. But, when they start the cock-a-doodle-do before sun up, and all during the day, roosters will attract all the hawks, eagles, stray dogs, owl’s, foxes, coyotes, koons, possums, and anything else that just wants to kill a chicken. Roosters crowing all day cost me more hens than anything else. I wouldn’t have a Roo now for that reason. A Roo cannot win a fight with any of the above, not even close. Varmints just sit and wait until you go inside and then kill your hens. They will generally leave the Rooster for last...Traping a fox or Coyote takes lots of skill and patience. The problem in an area like yours and mine, you have trap everything else in the neighborhood (including cats) so the foxes and Coyotes can get to the bait first. At least you are extremely unlikely to have both foxes and coyotes at the same time as they hate each other. Having a big dog mite help. Best Wishes!
