This time used my float and baited jag, still with no success, but i did manage to catch another lovely feed. the morning was very pleasant and most definately better than staying in bed. Well guys thankyou for watching and hope you enjoy. Tight lines, stay safe like or subscribe would be nice. All the best dudes.

Hi David, Just had a fantastic squidding session at Seacliff on a kayak. Thanks for the tip of taking off the jig weight and adding a separate sinker lower in the rig to avoid snags... No lost squid jags and a nice feed of squid.

That is so good to hear Mark well done, as you are finding out it works a treat you may get snagged occasionally but no where near as much, and you know exactly where your squid jag is near the bottom. Thank you for letting me know. All the best David.

Hi David, I tried Marino Rocks but it wasn't good. Then went to Brighton and got 2 blue crabs and a 35cm King George! I was stoked. I will have to try Wirrina as it looks a bit easier to fish from.

Well done thats a good day out and a nice feed. You will like Wirrina when you get use to it down there, just be careful of them slippy rocks when wet. Summer time, Spring and Autumn all good for squid.

Hi Jimmy thank you, yes there is no fishing on the in side of the marina but we are allowed to climb over the break wall and fish on the outside. My first Squid Fishing Wirrina video shows a good example of that at the begining. Thank's for watching.

Squid fishing with float and whole fresh fish does work best. You must float the fish about 1 foot off the weedy bottom.

@davidsheldonfishing9726 3 года назад
Hi leon thanks mate, firstly if you don't know the turn of to this spot its roughly 10 or 15 minuets drive heading towards Cape Jervis from Normanville, it has a new sighn at the turn of to Wirrina Cove called I think, Terry Hotel and Golf resort. Follow that road all the way to the end and it brings you to Wirrina cove boat ramp harbour and break wall you can drive in and park your car next to the break wall and climb over and fish any where on the outside into the ocean but we are not allowed to fish on the inside of the harbour. There is a road that runs all the way to the end of the break wall we normally can't drive down there but at the moment there is no gate and people are driving all the way if they want. Happy squidding leon and don't slip on them black rocks.

Hi David. Loving the videos mate. Keep it up. Some good size ones there. I'm enjoying my squidding these days. Still new to it. Just wondering if you kill your squid straight away, or when you cook them do you need to tenderise them before you cook them. Cheers mate
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 лет назад
Hi Nathan i'm all for humanly killing my catch as I catch whatever. But I have to admit I generally just put my squid in my bucket I guess that is wrong I should realy kill them as I catch. No I don't tenderise my squid before cooking I've heard some people tenderise them by boiling them in milk or soaking in milk, might be worth you looking into that on google maybe. I deep fry in hot canola or olive oil, crumbed or battered it doesn't take long around a minute or so it usually comes out nice and tender. Squidding is good fun ey
@Badderup77
@Badderup77 5 лет назад
Cheers David for getting back to me. Yes I really do enjoy squid fishing. I only ask about how you kill them as the last two times I caught a feed I did the same as you and threw them straight in the bucket. But when I cooked them up they were a little tough. I read that can happen if you don't kill them straight away as they can get stressed causing the toughness when you cook them. I cook them the same as you. Crumbed, deep fried for a minute or so. I have also read about soaking them in milk overnight helps tenderise them, as does soaking them in kiwi fruit for a short time as well. What ever helps I guess. Really enjoying all your videos so far, so thanks and keep it up. Cheers

Hi David, this is a comment i posted a while back to one of your other comments below, but im thinking u may of missed it as you commented on another comment of mine but not this one, hahah. Loving the videos mate, keep them coming. (I guess you need the time to get out and make the videos though haha) WOW! 2000kg of carp a week, i was going to offer you whatever carp i catch when i go to the river but my measly 5-10kg or so would be nothing hahaha Do you find the eb of the tide (either high or low) to be best for squiding? I go jetty fishing south of Adelaide, and i mainly only go when i get time so i dont really look at what the tide is doing. This is probably why i catch stuff all whenever i go. Also what is your best time/tide for tommies, mullet, gar on Port Noarlunga Jetty? Again i rarely have any luck when i go out. Do you ever fish this jetty? Haha, million questions there mate. But cheers, happy fishing.
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 4 года назад
Hi Darren, when I looked for this comment to reply it had gone and I thought you had removed it, whoops. Anyway yes I do use a lot of carp but not 2000kg a week I have had that much delivered and buy regular when busy. For squid the best time is 1 hour each side of the ebb of the tide high and low tide and fish with your jag near to the bottom or a fish on a jag fished under a float down deep using a sliding knot (I have a video showing how to tie a sliding knot) off Port Jetty. The best tide for gar is the run out using a float, the tide will run towards Christies Beach thats the side with all the ribbon weed what gar like also best for squidding with a float over the ribbon weed. Tommies can also be caught like this but late afternoon and evening was usually better just a bit further up from the steps to the first life buoy is a good area for squid gar and tommies. Mullet fishing was generally done in the shallows on the high tide in the morning fishing just before the small reef in the shallows(South Port side) with exceptions on rough days when you can get them and tommies during the day sometimes all over the place. When I was younger the fishing was Awesome and pretty much guaranteed a feed, but now it is much harder with much less fish so the times you choose too fish are more important and work doesn't make it easy, so try to fish the best times for results but getting out the house is good for the soul any time. I have done lots and lots of fishing of Port Jetty. Its been a not so fishy year for me and now I have a hernia to get fixed but I will be back. all the best Darren.

@@davidsheldonfishing9726 Thanks for your reply mate. I have added you on facebook to try and chat a bit and get a few tips off you on there if you dont mind? Thank you very much for the different tide times for the different species, hopefully i can get some soon. I am acyltually heading down your neck of the woods this long weekend, second valley. I really hope i can use your tips and techniques to hopefully get some squid or 2 and some gar, mullet and tommies also. I will let you know how we go! Are you retired if you don't mind me asking? with the jigs do you just peels the covering off the bottom half of the jig?
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 лет назад
No I'm not retired I breed maggots for fishing and flies for pollination my maggot packets are named Sheldons Bait we are the largest supplier of maggots in the country. With the cheap Neptune Tackle jig I remove all of the cloth and when I do the weight on the jig comes out, the coloured foil under the cloth I remove the bottom half and only leave some on the head end of the jig. This technique of squid fishing works very well in deeper water. Cheers David

@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks for the ideas, I breed my own maggots , I mostly fish for trout using them, As i'm retired I'm now getting into some salt water fishing and you have great ideas and from your videos most efficient at catching fish. Do you sell your maggots in victoria? You must have a large area for breeding to supply all those shops.
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 лет назад
Hi Malcolm. my pleasure and thank you for commenting, the maggots make great trout bait don't they. Trout are very close to my heart. I use to ride around on my bike and walk in England to a river near home also small brooks and catch brown trout my dad use to catch some beauties mainly rainbows in the reservoirs. I live out in the country side surrounded by sheep I rent some land in the bush to breed my maggots where the smell doesn't bother any one,I can use up to 2000kg of carp to feed my maggots a week when in full production. We do supply a bait supplier in Victoria called A1 Bait but I don't know who he supplies I will find out if you like. There are more videos to come sooner or later so stay tuned Malcolm Cheers David.

Hi David- what if a fish bites into it??
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 лет назад
G'day Md Mahmud Hassan. A lot of fish do show interest in squid jags and every now and then the larger ones do take a bite, if there were proper hooks on them there would be a lot of fish probably caught while using them. I have seen a snook caught with a squid jag and last year I had a yellowtail kingfish attack my squid jag. So yes if a fish bites a squid jag you could catch it. Thanks for watching!

G'day again Trin just noticed i didnt answer your question. I do prefer the morning high tide just because its the start to a new day, but afternoon low tide and evening high tide can be just as good also very shallow water like 2ft deep can produce good numbers of squid.

Hi David, I went Ardrossan with my friend, we caught 40 crabs and 10 squids on jetty, I saw someone put sink as your video showed rigs. I saw the sea ground is clean, did not try your method, just want to know do you do as your video showed squiding jig on jetty? I see you standing on the rocks, it may be different on the jetty. If you use same rig, I may try your method next time.
@davidsheldonfishing9726
@davidsheldonfishing9726 5 лет назад
Hi Trin yes I like to use a sinker of jettys too, especially if you are casting far out and working your jag back towards the jetty it helps you know where your squid jag is. But if you are fishing near the jetty and can see the bottom maybe no sinker. And thats a nice catch you and your friend caught yummy.

I try to kill most of my fish when caught but mainly to be humain and the squid have always missed out, but like you say it makes them better for the table too. Thanks for the comment.
