this video is 4 years old now and still helping! I just got into modular, bought morphagene and played the delay mode you explained with the signal of my guitar, created an amazing delay / modular effect that I never heard in any pedal, made me very happy, even composed a song on it! I also used the gate and envelope of my guitar signal (through a Befaco instrument interface module) to modulate morphane and it got even more wild, the more intense I play the guitar dynamics makes it modulate differently thank you @loopop for sparking ! 🤩
my eurorack obsession/addiction started just because of this lil thing. to me personally this might be the best module I've ever heard. I've been dreaming of owning one for a year. finally in couple of days my dreams will come true and i am gonna get one. I have never been so happy about a piece of gear like the morphagene. should i decide to sell all my gear sometime in the future, i'll frame it and hang it on my wall!!!
“Did I mention subscribers get this quality music on a weekly basis?” 😂😂😂. Thanks for a great video. Got Morphagene three days ago and watching this after reading the manual was so useful. Thank you!
This guy has seriously made many different hardware and software companies a shit ton of money. I hope they give him free gear or money but I'm afraid this benevolent hero does it all out of the kindness of his heart..
Thanks - Not a hero...;) some companies send stuff or sell at a discount but I don't charge money - I rely mainly on Patreon support from viewers and youtube ad revenue, sometimes amazon affiliate links.
This was very helpful. It seems that I only revisit my Morphagene every few months, and each time I'll have completely forgotten how to operate it. Thanks too for the heads up on the cheat sheet and the app!
Modular seems overkill for regular synthesis, but when you showcase cool complex modules like that it's really tempting to start one. I love how you can do out of this world modulations and crazy routings with these unique modules.
Kevin Le Guillou once you put your feet into that water there is no coming back , I was staying away for long time and than I bought my first module, “eurocrack” nothing else
I recently bought a Nebulae v2 thinking I’d get more out of it than a Morphagene, but you have me thinking otherwise. So much to discover-thanks for showing us the way 🙏🏻
Saving this for later. Looking forward to diving into your exploration of the morphagene. This module seems far more useful than what I've been able to get out of it.
I’ve got the morphogene on order and as ever your video will save me hours of manual reading and self-discovery accelerating my enjoyment - brill! Thanks ever so much
great video. I just got a morphagene and you cleared up a lot of things I was confused abput (the manual reads like a science paper :) the part about clock input was especially helpful, thanks.
Thanks so much for this video. My Morphagene has sat unused for so long and this inspired me to really have a really good look at what it is capable of.
Great work! Itˋs so nice to see you explaning this quite amazing Instrument. Very clever, mind opening way, how you do the perfect splicing at the end. Thanks a lot.
Such a fantastic video, thank you so much for putting in all the work to make this. I've been happily using my morphagene for months now, but a few of these techniques are going to help me get even more out of it.
THANK YOU! After I got the module I was not motivated to work with it a lot since it was so confusing at the beginning despite reading the manual. But this is realllly helpful and inspiring. so good man
Excellent, practical tutorial. This module is so cool, but also is so overloaded with button combos, text file parameters, and conditional modes, it can be defeating. I love it and kind of hate it, too.
I couldn't get along with mine and sent it back after a week. I use Clouds and A Disting mk4 for most of what it can do. Still a cool module but not for me. Good review though!
I'm right there with you, buddy. I find the controls maddening. Haven't quite figured out how to fit it into my setup other than for ambient pads. May end up opting for Nebuae 2 which is a little more straight forward if I don't work it out.
hi, I very rarely comment, but I need to finally thank you Loopop! I learned from you how to operate Minibrute 2S and now Morphagene! You have amazing tutorial skills, much respect man!
Excellent video, as always. Morphagene has been the one module in my 12U x 416hp rig that I have yet to patch, as I got it with 2 large packages of modules with new cases that arrived all at once.,I’ve been really looking forward to begin recording samples to chop up, modulate, and integrate into my rack setup, with my other synths, or even some of my guitar songs, which I’ve been told Morphagene can record and completely modulate. Thank you ! This video was extremely helpful, as all of your tutorials are!
Amazing video as usual. I’ve been real focused on deep diving the morphagene lately and certainly gained a lot from this one, so thanks for that! Also wanted to add that Noise or an Audio Rate signal is also great for modulating varispeed if you’re after tape style wobbles, though sometimes you have to pre attenuate before the morphs attenuators in order to dial it in tightly. I prefer this method simply because you do get some noise and other artifacts that don’t always appear with CV signals 🤤
Thanks, particularly for the delay trick...I never would have thought of that myself and it works really well, opening up a whole new feature for me. Brilliant.
I luv you Loopop! Thank god for these vids.... I put this one on repeat in the background while I'm working so that I try to take it in slowly and have a better idea when I sit down to tweak and it really works. The Hermod one tho? No way.... I'll never understand it. It's not you, it's me.
Thank you. After this video I feel ashamed. The Morphagene is still one of the best modules I have but GAS and my case config let me forget about it a bit. Thanks! And even though I read the manual like 20 times your explanations made me understand some of it better / finally.
I love this video. You re ignited the MG fire, polyphony and phasing are the to new takeaways for me, but the entire video was brilliant. Thank you! Now, tell me about your book. Have a great week!
This thing looks incredible. My god, the morph dial in the Gene Smoothing section. They included a Steve Reich function... "Did I mention subscribers get this quality music on a weekly basis?" I really, really, love the moments where your jokes pop up in the videos. I just got my Minibrute 2S last week, my DB Impact is on the way, and I'm ordering my 0-Coast today... No more spending for a few months, still paying off a new Mac too, but... The next steps after that will be modular. I liked the look of Blackbox/Bitbox, but this... This looks like a whole lot more fun. Do you have an "essential modules" video, not based on brands, but functionality? I've downloaded VCV and I have some Ableton packs (Bengal and Oscillot) but it's a massive step forward, and I look to your videos a lot for advice.
Edit, some months later. This module was the reason I first decided that I wanted to start a rack. It wasn't the first module I bought (I started with a bunch of Mutable Instruments utility/function modules - Marbles, Frames, Stages, Links, and Blinds) and then followed on with voice/shaping (Plaits/Ripples) , and now my 1010 Bitbox mkii is just hours away from delivery, I think it's time to get the morphagene, since it's what made me want to start this whole journey. So, using MI Marbles t-section as a drum trigger into the bitbox, and the x-section as modulation for the envelopes in Stages, with Frames firmware hack in shift register mode going into plaits/ 0-coast / minibrute 2s, and some modulation into ripples, I can record some bonkers rhythms and melodies, then feed them into the morphagene and screw them up even further. Since I come from a background of dj'ing with turntables and vinyl, I'm accustomed to beat mixing by ear, not by computer sync, so manual modulations synced in time will be easy for me, with the added bonus of them morphing with a human feel, rather than a perfectly quantized robotic feel. There will be some slight nudging and phasing, but it will feel natural, just like the jitter function of Marbles. Honestly, I came into this whole modular thing as confused and overwhelmed as could be, but I saw what I liked. I started off with utilities, then added voices, and next, fx, and I feel I'm gonna start finding my way into what I envisioned at the start. Marbles will give me loads of great random patterns, the Frames Shift Register and Euclidean hacks will mess them up even further, and Morphagene will take that mess and tear it all apart again, and I get to do all the finishing touches by ear, not by computer. Make Noise Rosie will be next on the list so I can have a cue-system of loops and fx from the bitbox, recorded from Marbles and Frames and the voices, working like a regular dj system, and just feed the loops into Morphagene, and play it by ear, no clock/ gate inputs. I have about a month to learn Bitbox, while I wait for Morphagene (if it's in stock) Should do nicely!
Can't believe I hadn't already subscribed to your channel! Such great timing, my Morphagene arrives tomorrow! Can't wait to put your tutorials to practice w/ it! Seems like such an awesome module!
I've learned so much! I wish the audio input of MG was cleaner tho. I have a hard time recording quiet sounds, and making reels on the computer is much less interesting.
Thanks loopop. Great tips! I knew MG was going to be my leap into the modular world, and I almost built my first rig like this one you're using in the video (Pam, Maths and MG). I ended up with something a little bit different, but one of your other vids convinced me to definitely get the Expert Sleepers ES-8 to use with VCV rack. One issue I have with Morphagene is it seems very touchy to get mine to "land on green" with the main reel knob. Not sure if that's just due to the material I'm sampling or what.. but overall I'm enjoying it very much.
Thanks for this great overview! I just got the Morphagene after I saw your video. A question though: The output of the Morphagene seems to be quite low compared to other modules, even with the input gain set to max without getting any distortion. Anybody else noticed this?
Thx for subscribing so well. I really look forward für this module to use it. By watching this Vdieo, I also have become the spiritually answer, WHY we all love modular Synth so much. I myself made a spontanly video on my chanel, by showing a still of this video in back. I hope, this is OK for you.
Thank you so much for this video! It helps so much! I just bought the morphagene a week ago...(secondhand; v.204) and sometimes it does not act as you explain in the video. For example when I press REC, it records to a new splice. When I press REC+SPLICE, it adds the record to the current slice. And the delay does not work either. Do you have any advise? Should I load the firmware again?
Hi my friend, I really appreciated your videos! They are concise and clear, and very easy to understand. Would you please tell me how do you make those Virtual Windows during the video editing?
First of all thanks for your wonderful work, really appreciate it. Although the precision splicing technique looks tempting. For me it's still not a pleasurable workflow when I want just a simple 1 bar drumloop spliced. Why is such a simple technique in 2019 still so hard to implement? Really, I have an Octatrack and a Digitakt but I would love it to do this on my Morphagene because of all the other sonic capabilities it brings with it..
