Morris Minor Tyre recomendations: www.longstonet...
We would suggest that the best morris Minor tyres are the 145R14 Pirelli Cinturato. Be it a Morris 1000 or a Morris Traveller.

The original Morris 1000 or Morris Traveller tyre was Dunlop's 520-14 D75. sadly, Dunlop closed their motorsport plant in 2014 and no longer make historic road tyres. Which is a shame for Mogey Minor owners that are interested iin originality.
Because the original Morris Minor tyre is not made by Dunlop, when we look at alternate cross ply tyres. They don't just come up to the Dunlop. The best crossply tyres were made by Dunlop in Birmingham, since the demise of that factory there has not been a crossply tyre we would recommend for the Morris 1000 or Morris Traveller. There is also not a genuine period cross ply tyre available in the size 520-14.
145R14 is the standard radial alternative to a 520X14 Crossply tyre and for the this standard rim of a Mogey Minor then a 145R14 is by far the best. Until recently Bridgestone made a 145R14 tyre that was at least available and a bargain. For those that want a taller tyre they could fit a 155R14 Nankang, but they need a wider rim to suit the oversized 155R14 tyre.
145R14 is the standard radial alternative to a 520X14 Crossply tyre and for the thin standard rim of a Mogey Minor then a 145R14 is by far the best. In January 2018 Pirelli introduced a 145R14 reproduction of their 1950's 60's and 70's radial tyre ,the cinturato CA67, very much with the Morris Minor in mind. Making it tall as a 145R14 tyre is allowed to be, and keeping the foot print nice and thin to keep the tyre stable on that thin rim and the steering as light as can be for a radial tyre. There couldn't be a better tyre for a standard Morris1000 or Morris Traveller.
At the same time Michelin had the same idea producing a 155R14 X. A 1940's tyre still fitted to the 2CV till the end of the '80's. Though this tyre is a 155R14 tyre Michelins X tyre is more suited to a thinner rim than anything also of the size 155, because it is such an early radial tyre. Again, perfect for a Mogey Minor.

Hi,what does 145 stand for ,if am right I know 14 stands for inches,I think the diameter

By convention the size of radial-ply tyres is given in three parts. The first figure is the width of the tyre in millimetres. The second is the height of the tyre as a percentage of its width. If there is no number the height of the tyre may be taken to be 80% of its width. Then there is a letter R that means radial ply. The third figure is the rim diameter, usually in inches but in a few cases (such as the tyres used on most Austin Metros) the rim diameter is in millimetres. Then there is a two or three digit number and a letter. These are the load and speed ratings of the tyre, that you can look up on the Internet and learn by rote.

Hi you say not a problem, but your tyres will not be as stable as they should be. If you imagine bbalancing a triangle on it's pointy end. It will explain the tracking on our rutted modern highways. iverly wide tyres will roll on the rim, and be attracted by uneven road surfaces, which is why the rim recomendation for a 155R14 is 4" - 6". not 3". they will be much better with a 145R14, and better still with a period carcass tyre such as the Cinturato www.longstonetyres.co.uk/tyres/145-14.html

If you really want to stick with a 155 tyre it would be better to increase the rim width or fit the Michelin X at least that way you will have a tyre that is more suited to an overly thin rim. However, 145R14 Cinturato is the best.
