So true, whatever he does makes it as his own, he's a real artist. I stand by Morrissey, and I will always do. He's a genius and all the people who is behind him, the production, the musicians are genius too 👏 Thank u for California Son.
He's helped me through a lot, I adore this man and his music, I won't hear a bad word about him, I argue that point quite often, I get all sorts of crap thrown at me but I don't care, Morrissey forever ✌
I love the album, I've enjoyed listening to it from day one. This is an interesting little film, would've loved a contribution from the man himself though. Long live Morrissey.
He could have gone the usual route, and record the 100th version of Always On My Mind or the 500th version of Yesterday, yet he chose to cover only relatively obscure songs (most of which I had never heard before, not even the Bob Dylan one), and he did record all of them as if they were his own songs. If I didn't know beforehand this was an album of covers, I'd believe it was another original set of songs by Morrissey. This is a good advice for old artists willing to embrace the easy strategy of relying on other people's past hits (even Rod Stewart and Bob Dylan did that)- when you do an album of covers, follow Moz' example and: 01- cover only obscure (but really good) songs 02) cover them in your own trademark style, so that you make the songs your own
Agreed. Except "Don't Interrupt the Sorrow" is pretty well-known.. There are, like, essays written about it. But I mean to the average non-Joni-Mitchell-fan, yeah, I guess it's kinda obscure.
This was really interesting. I put off listening to this album for a while because I love his originals so so much, I thought I just wouldn't like covers, since I don't know all the originals and..they aren't his.. But now I can't stop listening to this album.
A bit disappointing not to see Morrissey himself talk about the album however the album itself is absolutely fantastic! I never realised the were all covers. All of them sound just like they were written by Morrissey himself!!
Anybody that detests the Guardian newspaper must be a great and intelligent man - you are an accomplished legend and the guardian. arsewipes are coach roaches.
Saw Alain on the Steve Jones radio show couple of weeks back. Steve does not come across as a moz fan at all so why he is in this Vid goodness knows. Filthy Lucra!
It's a brilliant covers album, I have heard about some of the original artist's, Biffy Saint Marie, I hadn't heard of her until I knew Moz liked her and I'm now a fan of her. Some I've heard of the name of course Joni Mitchell, I think I've heard some of her songs. Gary Puckett & Union Gap I had actually heard of with the hit they had young girl, and I like lady willpower too once I heard Moz do it. I love Morning Starship, more so way Moz sings it, sorry Jobriath.
Queens NY sick tonight... Mets at Citifield, U.S Open 10 feet away from there then FHS around the block more or less CRAZY nite wen Moz comes to NY but extra vibe tonight sick setlist but HAVE to think that Lady Willpower is gotta be very complicated to do live which it is hard EVEN in the studio but gotta say it's Moz's natural voice NO autotune or help in any way so bottom line FOR SURE Mozza's voice post surgery is stronger, fuller n more deep in tone than ever. Beautiful just live beautiful ESPECIALLY his baritone natural in all PLUS his falsettos! Most albums he's dropped in a close timeframe with new label n management so Moz is just at a 4th peak. Smith's then Viva Hate then Vauxhall and I then You are the Quarry now this era. Since not World Peace.. But from YoR past WP into LIHS into this he's got new fire n setlists shows it. He's always been a performance not a concert. He ARRIVES not so much a start of a concert but rather an arrival n then the performance begins. Only Sinatra crooner days had something close to that like a begin then end then encores n leave not a typical let's leave them full rather let's leave them wantin more.
All the money in the world that could drown you, it happens to be you. Gold coin, and crushed carbon, like you. I tried to warn you, watching ants play out their day was more rewarding. I maybe boring in the slow lane watching ambulances playing with the dead. I'm rubber necking all to often, it hurts, sleeping safe and soundly in my bed. I tried to warn you, there are no short cuts, for the dead. What's that? Ye, I'm still waking from my bed.
