Hi Brian, 'musical experts' are notoriously affected by trendiness and political correctness. Morrissey has never been either of those things. He's always been himself, a lone voice that cuts through societal and cultural bullshit and they don't like that. I haven't managed to hear the whole album yet, but going by this song it sounds like the best work he's done in a long while. :-)

Yes maybe better than Vauxhall. 'V' was great and it had to do with his age that age for me was also that time when you're still young enough to be naive but you know everything and you're still good looking. Youthful. this record might be better cause it's now.

Absolutely. It's the culmination of his other recordings. He took some creative chances that all paid off. Not a single throw away track. I usually have to listen to Jim Jim Falls 5 times before continuing on. The title track his clever and addictive.

Im not a huge fan of this album but this song specifically is a masterpiece. I love the lyrics of this song. Over the years the quality of Morrissey's lyrics have been a bit patchy, but this song is spot on. I love the use of being able to being able jump the river; being a metaphor for youth. Plus, how in the first few lines, only, Morrissey's early life is described. I can relate to how he describes the mundane act of shopping with his nan as a memorable life event. I expect many people can, too. I really like how Morrissey's aging is equated with his nan now being gone, as he may be in a relatively short time span. As happens to us all. I love the working class references too. This song covers life from young age, teen years, to old age, when you listen to the song closely. A picture is succinctly painted, in a way that is often not so vivid in a short song. One of my favorite morrisey songs.

Another top class piece of work from the new album. Great lyrics yet again (20 number 10's!!) , I actually used to buy them from time to time- white, red n black push up packs made by "Players " , if anybody wants a historical, cigarette fact!! - very much like John Player no. 6 but they were green ,black and white! Anyway the odd thing about no' 10s was they were shorter & thinner than all the others, but I remember they were the nicest smoke you could get!, they were a 'treat' smoke as they were about the most expensive yet smallest. They stopped making them in about 1990 so i went back to Embassy Filter, the next best n also push up n small!!. Just in case anyone wondered what number tens were!!, sorry to be a bore.
