I would give anything to hear Marr play that guitar line with Morrissey again.

Oh, but the guitar will never be as smooth as Johnny's...

Wow is right. I'm going to the Oakland show in a couple of weeks, it would be nice to hear this live! Come on Moz, keep it up!

Johnny Marr: Noooo! you can't just throw your worst lyrics over one of my best guitar works! Nooo!" Morrissey: "Haha typewriter go brrr"

Even though Marr is missing, one can't disagree that the song is amazing!

Actually, this isn't far off from the version that the Smiths played at their last ever show, aside from Johnny's incredible picked intro. I think this sounds great, and absolutely maintains the integrity of the original. To each his own, i suppose. :)

For most people, just Marr recording with Morrissey and playing shows would make them happy. They still get together and keep in touch, and if they did have the reunion, they're one of the few bands that wouldn't sound "from the 80s". Like Talking Heads- when a band's that good there's never an expiration date. But there was bad blood after the breakup. Marr's more than capable of playing his solo songs and can just be an additional guitarist.

Tugboat25 - well this band is NOT The Smiths and Moz is obviously happy with the way it sounds. If you want it exactly like the original, stay at home with the vinyl.

Super clear video, what camera are you using? Looks like HD video and great sound. Thank you, I was at the St Louis show a night after KC but no one has any videos up yet.

I agree.... Morrissey and Marr technically are The Smiths anyway...

Andy Rourke is one the best bass players ever and without him the sound wouldn't be today what we know as the Smiths.

tugbeat25 - this is just a slightly beefed up version of the original ain't it??? The Smiths' live sound (minus Gannon) was incredibly puny by today's standards and would just sound odd to modern ears I am afraid.

Is it impossible for this band to play a Smiths song with any kind of semblance to the original version? Why must every Smiths song they play have to be so totally removed from the original? I understand new perspective and all that but it's just ridiculous how Off they are in maintaining the integrity of original Smiths songs.

Well said, rabbitsrich - I'm old enough to have seen The Smiths live and they sounded dreadful live, trust me. Morrissey's current band deliver a much beefier, richer sound (kudos to Boz) than The Smiths ever could and Moz is obviously happy with it. The myth of The Smiths tends to obscure many of their shortcomings, but, from one who was there, I can tell you that the power of those gigs was all down to Morrissey's connection with the audience - not that thin, weedy guitar sound.
