"Morrissey has opted to replace The Ordinary Boys with Treat Me Like a Human Being, a Viva Hate outtake released in 2011 as a B-side."
www.theguardian.com/music/2012/feb/16/morrissey-ordinary-boys
LYRICS
Ordinary boys, happy knowing nothing
happy being no one, but themselves
Ordinary girls, supermarket clothes
who think it's very clever to be cruel to you
for you were so different
you stood all alone
and you knew
that it had to be so
avoiding ordinary boys
happy going nowhere, just around here
in their rattling cars
ordinary girls
never seeing further
than the cold, small streets
that trap them
but you were so different
you had to say no
when those empty fools
tried to change you, and claim you
for the lair of their ordinary world
where they feel so lucky
so lucky, so lucky
with their lives laid out before them
they're so lucky, so lucky
so lucky, so lucky
so...

@@AlsatianCousin I'm from Aberdeen in Scotland. The imagery portrayed here - happy knowing nothing, supermarket clothes, round and round in their rattling cars - it describes so many people I've come across here with no ambition. Along with "Everyday is Like Sunday" this track captures the essence of life in a depressing small town immaculately

I know we're supposed to be all mad at Morrissey now, but the only thing I'M mad at him for is what he did to Viva Hate. The album IS the album. You can't change the tracklist 30 friggin years later. Did he ever offer an explanation? He removed "Ordinary Boys" and he totally truncated the ending of "Late Night, Maudlin Street." The original fadeout was amazing. ("Wherever you, I hope you're singing now...") I would love to know the mindset behind either of these decisions. It's really infuriating. The new version is what's on Spotify. If the videos get removed from RU-vid, this song and the original verison of "Maudlin" basically won't exist. Yes, they are his songs, but these albums MEAN something to his fans. You don't get to just change shit. Imagine if a novel you grew up loving, the author decides decades later to rewrite the ending, and from then on that's the only version you can get. I don't really care about Star Wars, but I've heard George Lucas did something similar. Apparently he changed some scenes when he rereleased it in the 90s, and the only DVDs you can get now are the changed version. Do these artists not understand their work is IMPORTANT to fans?? I'm a writer and if I'm ever in a position where people actually know my work, I swear I will NEVER pull some shit like that. I guess Morrissey no longer likes "Ordinary Boys." Well, fine. He can choose to not perform it live or put it on compilations. But you don't get to CHANGE a work of art after it's been released, certainly not DECADES after it's been released.

A track out of context in this time and age (i love the song as well and simply dislike remastered...anything) which i furthermore suspect would in some people eyes make him out as a blind racist. In other words i suspect this has to do with avoiding a potentially politically charged accusation thats he's had to defend and explain away. I understand the interrogation-esque interviews with hardball, steely eyed reporters misconstruing as is normally done with Morrissey/Media.
