This video shows the full roster of Playable Characters and secondary Kameo Fighters in Mortal Kombat 1 (Full Game) including unlockable characters and Shang Tsung DLC.
At the time of the game's launch there are 23 playable characters and 15 Kameo Characters (secondary helper characters). Kameo Characters can be summoned in combat to help you but they have a cooldown after each attack. This cooldown automatically recharges over time. You can't play Kameo characters yourself, only summon them briefly while playing a main character, they will do a quick strike (depending on your button input) and then they disappear until you summon them again (if the cooldown has refreshed).

Kinda wished that Scorpion, Sub Zero and Kung Lao kameos were replaced with Nightwolf, Kabal, and Skarlet kameos instead. Kinda like the kameos to be all non playable main fighters.

it's not a easy way, with kameos game becomes more diverse and hard for developer to balance, right now there are 360 options to chose, it's insane compared to the past 3 games combined, don't call it lazy, NRS mainly focusing on making innovation to the fighting genre, not all developers would go into this road, but it's very refreshing and in time will get appreciated.

Also in case people are wondering there are many unplayable characters and kameos exclusive to story. For example all playable characters have a kameo versions of themselves that you cannot select and only available in story(IE Scorpion and Subzero has a story mode kameo that uses their current look and moveset). Quan-Chi is dlc only and is not unlockable, this goes for his kameo as well which is exclusive to story mode only and is not unlockable. The blank character slot is not an unlockable character, it’s a character selection extender that will open up a whole other character selection menu for dlc characters, same for the kameo selection menu. Shang Tsung is pre-order dlc only, not unlockable, though you can still unlock and buy skins for him even if you don’t own him. The “24th” character could just be the boss character, Titan Shang Tsung(no he is not playable by normal means). The game is fun, the story is fun as well. As a big fan of MK you will definitely enjoy the game. Trust me you will enjoy the game as much as I am enjoying it.

"The blank character slot is not an unlockable character, it’s a character selection extender that will open up a whole other character selection menu for dlc characters" --- you don't know that. the blank spot is on the far bottom right. there's no room for it to extend anywhere like the character select extender on MK9's menu. so i call cap on that one.

According to the Kombat Kast that happened a few hours ago, everything is unlocked thru general play. They did that so that no one feels excluded. If you only like to play single-player, you can unlock things via the various single player modes, same with multiplayer modes. Likewise, if you enjoy both, you can unlock via both ways. Also, if you want to unlock character-specific items, just play as that character. That's how I understood what the devs themselves said. If you're able, I totally support watching it when you can. I may have misunderstood, and don't want to give incorrect info

@kye4216 because i saw some people saying they clicked on the slot and it takes them to a DLC thing or something. why add 24 slots and 16 slots if those last slots for both rosters are dismissed? Makes no sense to me at all.

We know 1 Kameo character is going to be Quan chi. If you dont believe me check out Maximillion doods vid on gear when he goes into the tower at the very top we see Quan Chi as a kameo fighter. Since he is already confirmed DLC for Kombat Pack 1 we can tell that we can expect DLC to put kameos on the main roster like hopefully someone like Goro would be cool or Sareena since shes really unique in the Kameo Roster

I really wish they didn’t double down on the magic stuff, whatever is so awesome to have Sonya or the cyber ninjas back as playable characters. Narratively I kind of wish they didn’t reboot everything so we can have Cassie at her team back.

While it's unfortunate legacy characters like Sonya,Jax,Stryker as Kameos and Quan chi,Ermac as DLC characters. Let's all celebrate and happy for the the fact that D'Vorah isn't on the Roster for once... Though since i haven't played this game yet i bet someone else will take over her spot and i hope i am wrong....

Kameos are like Strikers? (such as King of Fighters 99 to 2001?) I don´t know, because I don't get the game yet, but I would wished have to see Night Wolf, Jade, Sheeva and Kintaro instead a second Scorpion/Sub Zero/Kung Lao and Frost.

To have that blank character slot in both normal and kameo makes me really think it's reserved for kreate a fighter. Would only make sense considering the story based "reference's" and that the last few nether realm games had customizable parts.

Hello good people, has anyone else gotten issues connecting to the MK1 servers? I recieved my copy of the game yesterday (the 13th) and it was working fine I played a few matches aswell as invasion, but now the options are dimmed and anytime I press them it attempts to connect to server and fails.

Just by looking at the character select screen there will definitely add 4 left, 4 right squeeze the roster add additional two and a row of 15.sixteen will be a hidden character. 26 additional DLC. Who is missing?!
