In the 90s it all began with a select screen showing the chars' sprites in their plain standing stance, nothing special. Now look how things are. Simply incredible.

It's very interesting to look at all these things and then stop and realize that MK has grown to a point that it started to rival or surpass jp fgs in terms of these presentation details. The fgs that notably always used to be the trend setters in the genre. But at some point they started getting a bit lazy and repetitive in some aspects, but MK kept pushing on and evolving. Im not even a MK fanboy but i must say a decent part of the franchise's management has been admirable. So by now it became clearer that modern MK's cinematics, select screen, battle intros, etc, made a kind of revolution in fg presentation. MK influenced recent versions of SF, TK, GG, etc in varied ways. And that level of influence was completely unthinkable in the 2000s in the 3d trilogy period, and in the MK9 period.
