That little part at the end (with the hourglass and that woman) seems to point to it involving time travel (duh) and the Elder Gods (that woman is most likely an Elder God). That's why there could be more than one Scorpion, as well as why they were in a version of the temple from MK1 (it was that same original temple stage, but all of the monks were dead).

If we go back to the Deception / Armageddon timeline, Raiden sacrificed himself trying to stop Onaga ( the Dragon king of Outworld ) & ended up becoming Dark Raiden when he was corrupted by his suicide. He was an anti-hero in that timeline. In the MKX timeline, Raiden got corrupted by Shinnok's dark magic while healing in the Jinsei Chamber & thus becoming Dark Raiden once again. Raiden is still an anti-hero because protecting Earthrealm is his first priority.
