Love this port, if only the ending pics would have been included as well... If you are playing this make sure you are playing the US version as the EUR/PAL version is way slower.
I completely agree with you man, the Genesis soundtrack sounds more menacing than the SNES soundtrack and is therefore the best soundtrack in my opinion. So to get the sounds from the SNES version that weren't in the Genesis version as well as the Genesis soundtrack is literally the best of both worlds.

When came out Genesis 2 mini, maybe i can this game put in that model, who knows, maybe work, if MK2 SNES port can go to SNES mini, why not this? But for see what is diffrentes
@ I have the Arcade, SNES, 32X and Genesis MK2 versions on my SNES mini, added via Hakchi v2.3 and Retro Arch. It should also work with the Genesis mini model one, at least they share the same software!
You aren't able to select an other character after you won or lost against Jade? In the Arcade and SNES versions, you can. And the 32X-Jade's skin is pale, why?
It’s cause Sega at one point had a very bad reputation and surprisingly snes had the blood and bones after MK 1. Though I think MK 2 for sega was just shit , the 32 x was great but the genesis they shit on. With 3 they worked it out as well as the system could do.
I would get the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for PS3, Xbox 360 and Steam PC because all 3 of the games (MK1, MK2 and UMK3) are 100% accurate to their arcade counterparts meaning they have accurate music, voice and sound effects and plus, you can play online on all 3 games! HOW COOL IS THAT!
Basically, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection is a compilation game of all three classic MK series: MK1, MK2 & UMK3. That means, there all consider near 100% accurate to their arcade counterparts.
Matt Furniss' music is hardly MIDI sounding... Yes, it is the same as the MD version, but he did a fantastic job and, just like for MK1, the MD soundtrack is considered by many (me included) as superior to the arcade's soundtrack.
nope, Megadive/32X music fit better for this game, and it is better, the SNES muffled and tiny trumpeteety sound is no good for this, besides the arcade pcb sounds more like on the Genesis ..
Perfect example of what Sega did wrong post-Genesis. I love the 32x and it's games but you still a lot of compromises with 32x like the audio still having the inferior Genesis sound chip. This port looks a lot better visually but I'd say it's still a marginal improvement if you were a Mortal Kombat fan with Sega consoles. Sega Saturn actually got mostly everything right and nearly arcade perfect because it was a console tied to inferior, outdated hardware at its time like the Sega 32x and Sega CD were.
I can't believe the developers didn't make sure to get the correct arcade ice sounds in there. If they would've compressed (just a little) all the sound effects they added in they could've got the remaining missing sound effects (Kitana's fan, Jax's ground pound, Scorpion's spear, Reptile's acid & force ball, Kintaro's roar, Kahn's laugh, growling trees, etc) in here. Definitely a good upgrade over the Genesis though
@@JM-io2uv - agreed. Imagine what Sculptured Software would've done with 32 megs instead of 24 on SNES. The intro screens & the few remaining sound effects missing from the arcade would've easily fit on there. Heck, they probably could've put Kano & Sonya in as secret playable fighters & still had room to spare. Probe got 32 megs to work with on this & still couldn't definitively surpass the SNES version like it should've. Visual resolution on the fighters is better than SNES & they got a lot of the missing colors in to match SNES in that regard, but the 32X should've easily been able to replicate the arcade visuals. SNES backgrounds were better. Might've been that Probe just didn't know what they were doing. The other question is- what if Sculptured Software had done the 32X version? Probably would've easily been the best MK2 port & kept the 32X in business awhile longer. But instead, it only improved the Genesis game enough to compete with the SNES
@@greensun1334 No, it's better because the purples transition into the pinks. The entirety of the realm displayed on screen has more dynamism because of it. I'm willing to bet money the change was made by the 32x dev team to make the level pop more visually. All the other versions arcade included are just the single shade of purple. It looks sort of cheap and one-note.
Between this and the Genesis version, Sub-Zero and Scorpion have no problem with Kintaro. Seems the dumb oaf can't block ice or a spear and can be repeatedly be hit with them when getting back up.
The Monopoly Troll they could have used a ram cart like Saturn. So like a cart cd combo then we would have had small load times and even more sounds and sprites size
This is how the Genesis version should have been. The 32x version should’ve been better than the Snes version in all aspects (graphics, sound, music, ect.)
A game on a 32bit system should be better than on 16bit, but here it isn't. Same with the CD-based ports of MK2 - they are butchered together. The SNES-MK2 is the best and most complete version of this great and timeless game
@@greensun1334 Most complete, but not the best, all this version really lacks is Shao Kahns death animation and his taunts. The music may be different but that doesn't mean its worse.
@@revengenerd1 I never liked the disappering guts and bones, the wrong music and to much missing animation frames in the Sega versions. They did a really great job with the SNES port imo.
@@greensun1334 - it came down to the developer. If Sculptured Software (not Probe) had done the 32X port (32megs) with 8 more megs than the SNES version (24), it would've easily surpassed it on every front except maybe some of the music since the 32X didn't add much to the Genesis sound. The intro music, character select screen music & the post Shao Kahn music on SNES are hard to beat, even by the arcade. So well done by Sculptured. They really knew how to use the SNES sound processor
The saturn still looks super arcade perfect cd quality sound but weird ass music. Terrible load times and i believe some stages are missing on a cd? Yeah ok. The best arcarde perfect version is the PC version hands down.
Indeed, but only for screenshots. The PC version has wrong placed music and sound too, screen tearing, no smooth scrolling, missing animation frames, troubles with the hitboxes etc. etc. and it runs at a weird speed. Gameplay and overall feeling is nothing like the arcade. Yes, Probe Made it... Edit: the best playable and most complete port of MK2 and the only one programmed by Sculptured is on the good old 16bit SNES version of MK2. I know, it's weird, but all the other ports of this game are incomplete and the CD based ones are ruined by loading times and many hickups during gameplay. With MK3 / UMK3 programmed by Sculptured it's a different thing, thankfully the 32bit ports are good playable and quite close to the arcade original...
The 32x port leaned too heavily on the Genesis version in my opinion, there were too many inferior Genesis assets recycled and used again for the 32x port, due to that the Genesis version held the 32x version back from being nearer to the quality of the arcade version. It would have been a much better idea for the devs of the 32x version to ignore the Genesis version and instead use the higher quality assets from the arcade version, use the arcade version as a template instead of the inferior Genesis version.
@@clarenceboddicker6679 Cartridge size is the reason the 32x looks the way its does. Just adding the mega CD is easy for CD music (redbook audio) but the mega CD doesn't have a lot of RAM. 6 Mbit RAM (programs, pictures, and sounds), 128 Kbit RAM (CD-ROM cache). The 6Mbits of RAM is approx. 750000 Bytes. The 32X also includes 256 kilobytes of random-access memory (RAM), along with 256 kilobytes of video RAM. Saturn has 2MB of RAM. 1.5MB of VRAM. This means the Saturn should be able to have the arcade graphics. Sega 32x has a limited VRAM size. So letting the mega drive do the backgrounds and the 32x the sprites makes sense. Mega Drive adds another 64KB of VRAM. With a main RAM 64 KB. You could add RAM to the cartridge but you can see how this get expensive. The mega drive also has to be able to address and access all the ROM and RAM available. There is a limited address space. The Midway T Unit All the data was on 24 4mb roms or 12 8mb roms. That would require a 96Mb of data to be stored approx. The maximum mega drive/32x cartridge is 32Mb before bankswitching is required. These days you can get cartridges upto 256Mb ROM. Even with all the game assets and the music as redbook on the CD. You can see that its not an easy port if possible at arcade quality. I really want a better version on the tower of power but who has the skills to try and is it possible?
The only difference I see is just more voice samples from the arcade. They didn’t bother with replacing the genesis sound fx or upgrading the music. This version should have been on par with the snes version.
@@TheWaynelds the music is original for this port, and many many people (including me) prefer this ost over the original. A matter of personal preference.. the sound ffects, the colours on screen, sprite animations, background colors and details, even goro's lair were added from the original version. I don't think this is inferior to the snes version. Has better sound, not more sound samples, has larger and better more animated sprites, correct aspect ratio, better gameplay, etc. So I even think it's way better.
@@gaba665 yes, personal preference. I prefer the SNES port with more SFX, voice samples, original soundtrack, true ending and non-dissapearing guts after fatalities. SNES looks better in every aspect, only the lifebars look better on 32x
@@gaba665 every game has an OST. The Sega music has less to do with the original. And the FM-synth sound doesn't fit into games like this. Opinions 🤷🏻♂️
Да ну нееее.... У персов больше кадров анимации, ростер, арены, персонажи, башня выглядит во много раз лучше! Появились картинки на биосах персов. И я думаю, много чего ещё!
Nice port. SNES version is best. But, I'll take the Megadrive port over this. Genesis version had a sinister feel to the music and nice sprite work that felt more ambitious coming from a 16 bit console porting over a 32 bit arcade game.
Indeed, SNES has the best playable and most complete Mortal Kombat 2, it's a 16bit masterpiece, even better than all the 32bit ports together imo! It's the only port programmed by Sculptured Software (all the others are programmed by Probe) - and that's the main reason why it's clearly the best port.
I wish they would've started over instead of using the genesis version's music and sound fx. The voice samples that actually are from the arcade are perfect.
Remember when Bill Clinton the Democrat of Arkansas then-President of the United States of America blamed Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, and Doom in the wake of the Columbine Shooting
Saying this version is better than the Saturn and PS version would cause someone (a PlayStation or Saturn fan in particular who thinks the PSX/Sat version is arcade perfect) to have a fit.
SNES version is closer to arcade version, gameplay wise, because of the amount of animation frames it has. Genesis version has some weird stuff going on, including some combos that are not possible in the original arcade release, making it feel like a different game (sort of). Not a bad version, but it's understandable why people prefer SNES version. It's like the Genesis version of SF2SCE. Since it plays (and sounds) more similar to the original arcade game than the SNES version (precisely for the same reason, animation frames and a better adapted engine), that version is superior, gameplay wise.
@@TheTrueBro remember the genesis is from the 80's and had a worse video chip and used a fm synthesizer for music it's plenty more impressive for its hardware
I have been playing the SNES and 32X versions simultaniously over the past few years. I think from a gameplay perspective the 32x is slightly better than the SNES. The 32X - and even the Genesis version - is more responsive than the SNES. It doesnt have issues in terms of acknowledging hits which can be an issue with the Nintendo version sometimes.
@@SoulSnatching I never found any hit detection issues with the SNES port of MK2. Now, MK1 was a different story. As much as I loved it, gameplay was, and this is being generous, slushy. I just could never get over how terrible the Genesis ports looked and sounded.
I like the SNES-port still much more, and I like both consoles, but this game is just better and closer to the arcade original on SNES. Sound, graphics and even gameplay - in this case, it's clearly better.
