Mortal Kombat 2 for the Super NES, I remember the shock I received when Nintendo revealed it was going to be uncensored.... a lesson Nintendo learned the hard way after the first MK fared against the Genesis port. I loved this game, playing this Fall 94.

Liu Kang's Shaolin Combo fatality (the cartwheel kick and uppercut) isn't fatal because Liu Kang is considered a "good guy" who doesn't enter the tournament out of bloodlust but rather to win honorably and prove his skills as a champion. So he does that fatality to finish off his opponents without any blood or dismemberment because he's not about that. Yeah it sucks because there's no gore, but it's more of a character trait for him.

This is my favorite Mortal Kombat. I'm old school.

The SNES version of MK2 was so amazing, definitely one of the best arcade to 16-bit console ports of all time. Personally I think this is better than the 32X version, because of the superior colour palette, the animation and overall feel of the game. The 32X version was still far too much like the Genesis/Mega Drive version, with the same music and sounds, LOTS of missing animations and that terrible grainy look to it due to the low colour palette. They added some arcade voices, sounds and improved some graphical aspects, but still I didn't think it could hold a candle to the SNES version.

One of the greatest games OF ALL TIME. I have so many fond memories of standing in line at the arcades at Mazzio's Pizza when i was so young and just in awe of what i saw college age kids pulling off. Kung Lao's Hat Slice Fatality changed my life the first time i saw it! I remember that exact moment like a polaroid.... I can still see all of those memories. The best nostalgia ever... When this one came out for console, my friends immediately had a sleep over and we did NOTHING ELSE but play this game NON Stop. All 8 of us... It was incredible... So much hype, so much fun. Arguably the BEST SNES game. Here's a quick story. When I was 12 years old. Mortal Kombat was everything to a kid in middle School. I beg for this game on my birthday in September 1994. my parents told me that I wasn't getting the game and then I don't get to have any little thing that I want. so I was mad at first and accepted that I was not getting mortal Kombat 2 for my birthday. On my birthday my parents brought out this huge box. and I was really disappointed because I knew it was not going to be a Super Nintendo game. I open up the box and lo and behold mortal Kombat II was in there glistening and shining. You talk about a surprise for a 12 year old!!! It was like the second coming of Christ for a kid. I will never forget that moment as long as I live. And I'll never forget how crisp and smooth mortal Kombat II was for Super Nintendo. I swear to God that game made the SNES shine. Super Nintendo was blowing up at that point. In my opinion Super Nintendo is the best system ever made. Anyway there's my Mortal Kombat 2 story. It's the best Super Nintendo game ever made. aside from final fantasy 7 and Metal gear solid I think that Mortal Kombat 2 for the Super Nintendo with the best game of the decade. It was just new and refreshing the first time Nintendo allowed blood. It's one of the most polished video games of all time . Here I am at 39 looking up Mugen games. These Mugen games in my opinion blow away the new Mortal Kombats. DOPENESS!!

My parents bought me a snes and this game (along with other like castlevania iv, super mario, tetris, cool spot and other) without we asking for it!!! It was such a nice gesture of them!! Brings back the nostalgia!! Unfortunately over time we migrated to the u.s. and i never saw that snes console ever again!!!

I love how much you're into the game, and how much you appreciate the Super Nintendo, I feel for your childhood because my mother was single and could only afford to get it for me from the pawn shop but I was very grateful to get it, there was no way in hell I was ever going to get a Genesis, and that's where my relationship with Blockbuster Video began i rented so many Super Nintendo games there I think I pretty much played all of them, I was even in the Blockbuster Video Game championships and I was a champion for my area but got beat in SeaWorld San Antonio. The stage order changed due to you allowing the demo to roll. when it does the demo fights, it queues up the next map. Its a good way to get straight to the Pit II.

You know, as a kid, this was my first Mortal Kombat game in the series. MK2 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I liked it. I never heard of MK2 being for SEGA Genesis until I got my own computer many years later. Listening to the Sega version sounds somewhat off to me. That's because I had the SNES version long ago. I don't know which console back then was the better one to play 3rd party games, but it didn't matter for me (and I had both consoles but I loved getting games for the SNES). Another unrelated game that sounded best on the SNES (in my opinion) is the first Bubsy in the series. So I can say, whatever you had first, you usually defend that version over the other. The others in the comments here say the SNES version is s***. I disagree but that's just my opinion. There will be sides defending what they loved first. Can't argue with them. So about the story in the beginning of the video, did you at least play Sonic the Hedgehog and THEN hated it? I understand if that was the case. I also understand what you said though. "Santa" didn't get what you wanted and instead gave you a substitute. I don't understand that. If "Santa" is going to get a console, get what you asked for. I don't remember if SNES cost more than the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive but if so, that MAY be the reason. Only you know GSTAR.

I’d have to agree even though I owned the mega drive version, when I played this game on my friends snes, I was impressed. Better sounds looked better and that character select screen, awesome.

This is one of those old school moments that if you didn't live during that time nothing these days will ever replicate it MK was everywhere and the biggest thing ever for young boys. I think TMNT kinda primed our brains to getting onto fads and things like that, and by the time MK came out, most of us had aged out of TMNT and were looking for something new, and oh boy did we get it with MK. So when MK2 came out in the arcades and then for the home console, sweet mama, this was everything. One of my fondest memories is asking my dad to take me to all the video game rental stores when MK2 came out and we went to like three or four different ones and but no avail, and this was back when a whole wall of video games of the same game would be up for for rent, so it's not like there were only two or three copies per store. In any case, he could tell I was sad and disappointed when I told him we should just stop looking because there's no point. He then said, "well, let's just go to best buy and buy it if they have!" oh, man, that is like every christmas day emotion wrapped into one when he said that. we went there, they had a copy and I got it! Words cannot express how awesome that was for me. I also remember him taking me to K-Mart after I hit a home run in a game and he told me to pick any snes game I wanted so I chose a game that looked call but i had never played before: ken griffey jr presents major league baseball. oh, man, i played the crap outta that game, too Thanks, dad🙂

We had both the SNES and Genesis when I was a kid, but my bros bought the Genesis version. The only thing I liked about the genesis version was the darker look to the game, but I was missing a lot of sound effects and some background sprites. I too was obsessed with the Mortal Kombat series growing up, had the big players guide for MK2 which had the moves for every version of MK2 I think.

I had the Mega Drive version of this around 1997 and there were three distinct issues which used to irritate the shit out of me. 1) Not enough time given to pull off fatalities. Very often if you weren't at the right distance from your opponent when the announcer said "Finish Him!" then it was already too late! 2) Computer opponents very often throw you before you can even protect yourself with a leg sweep. Surely they should come into leg sweeping range before they are close enough to throw you? 3) After knocking you down the computer opponents are allowed to throw you as soon as you get up, or even while you are still down. You don't get allowed to do this shit to the computer opponent except in the very early stages.

It's funny, I live in Germany and a bar opend here where you can actually play Mortal Kombat 2!!! I always try to come early so that I get to play (the whole night) and don't let anybody else play xD

I remember that when I was in the rec. center after school, the older children got to play games for the Super Nintendo. They had Aladdin, Donkey Kong Country, and Mortal Kombat 2. I wanted to play those games, especially Donkey Kong Country, but I was not allowed to because I was not old enough.

Haha, man that story was amazing. I feel you though, brother. When I was a kid I played the ever living balls off this game. It was simply amazing. And you are absolutely correct, the Genesis version sucked.

Oh and one more thing. Shaolin Monks is one of my favorite games of all time. Best co-op game of all time in my opinion. Plenty of secrets and fun battles, almost like a mixture of Mario and MK. I fuckin loved that shit. Let me know what you think and if you'd ever be willing to do a walkthrough.
