So glad you saved the original art. Its like watching arcade archaeology. Would be cool to see a Double dragon restore. But i really like the MK in a taito cabinet it gives it some history. That Double dragon bezel art is a cool discovery, i think it would be cool if you used that instead.

This was rather inspiring. Nice job. And even if you don't turn it back into a Double Dragon, you still have something unique that represents the machine's entire history.

Can always make one. I know its not quite the same as having an old school cab, but using a PI can put together a MAME cab. Just Did one a few weeks ago, did it in a Neo-Geo colors. Can get cheap buttons with sticks and encoders on Amazon for about 50. Was a fun little project, just find better plans than I had...made for a lot more work lol.
@joshmiller887
@joshmiller887 3 года назад
@@thomasham130 I have considered building one with premium sticks and buttons. I am working on my soldering skills at the moment. At some point I’ll learn a bit about wood work (not that I believe it requires a ton of knowledge with all the patterns out there) then I’ll get with a friend who knows how to do front ends and all the roms. I kinda need to wait until I get a bigger space to make my vision come true. Thanks for the encouragement.
@thomasham130
@thomasham130 3 года назад
@@joshmiller887 Cool. You don't need a huge amount of space. Mine only takes up 28x24. That is with a 27" screen. With the USB encoders you don't need to solder at all. And if you want to go lazy you can look up PI images for a make and size. I.E PI 4 128gb image and find a link for downloading. Can always go bar top as well if space is a real problem.

I think I'd rather see it turned back into a Double Dragon cab, honestly. That button layout is wack for MK. I'm getting finger cramps just imaging doing Sub-Zero's slide on that thing. lol

Dave, great video! I appreciate how you went all in to preserve the Taito artwork. I look at these machines as works of art to be preserved so I hope you get around to making it a Double D once again. I look forward to getting into the arcade hobby when work settles down in a few years. I want to restore cabinets to their original glory! Have fun with the machine and take care! P.S. I use to have an '04 Sentra, no shame ;)

A Double Dragon cabinet is great for swapping out jamma boards. You’ll notice on the front of your cab at the bottom there is a slide out drawer and originally that is where the double dragon jamma board would be located. If that’s the case it’s easy to swap out different jamma boards like changing a nintendo nes cartridge. The challenge is someone could have rewired your cab and mounted the MK boards and jamma harness inside the cabinet instead of using that slide out drawer. Given that the MK boards take up more space that’s probably what they did. Nice job on saving the double dragon art!

Fun tip, stickers can be removed a lot easier and percisely with heat, like blasting it with a hair drier or heat gun and just using your fingernail. They typically come off clean with no residue if they arent super old and gunky.

Ahhh entire days spent scraping paint and stickers off cabinets is something I've done all too often. I do love doing cabinet restorations! Usually I'm stripping paint off metal parts and getting the rust of to give them a coat of paint to get them looking close to new. I don't like completely renewing everything on a cab though, I like them to look like they've had a bit of a life. Often I find some peoples collections of absolutely pristine, geniune dedicated cabs, while lovely, don't represent what I grew up with at all! Which was a mish-mash of tatty converted old machines and generic cabs made by local firms. I'd say keep it as it is, it's a piece of history. Not everything needs to be dedicated!

My first cab was an empty Donkey Kong that I turned into a Fix it Felix replica Mame cab. the guy that sold it to me had a full arcade in his garage and told me it definitely wouldn't be my last... Then I found a 4 slot Neo Geo big red that I restored, then I got a cocktail that I put a 60 in 1 board in. I haven't really gotten anything since then, but if the right Candy cab came up for sale locally....

Then you can convert the cabinet into an emulation station, customize it with your fav sanwa/seimitsu/hayabusa button/sticks and you are set for life. 100% guaranteed to satisfy guests and yourself with any type of arcade itch.

You don’t have to adjust the horizontal coil. Should have pots on the monitor for that. Be sure to use tv adjustment tools. Also if you re I’ve the control panel art you might still have double dragon control panel artwork on there. It’s a slippery slope so enjoy. Also since it’s a jamma connector you can buy different jamma boards or even buy a multi board for it.
@kevinhoover5758
@kevinhoover5758 4 года назад
Monitor is a K7000 only pots for vertical size, V. position, and H position. The Midway Y boards tend to run video a bit large so there probably isn't anything to worry about monitor or chasis wise. Already have things in the works for everything else ;)
@steveclark9934
@steveclark9934 4 года назад
Did you try looking under the vinyl of the control panel to see if original art was still there? And check behind the marquee for the original that's what I did and I lucked out I was given a few machines from a local vendor that was just throwing away a ton of games from his wherehouse at the dump! :( some in slightly used condition one of them I got was a deer hunter USA converted Z/dynamo style Street Fighter 2 cabinet and underneath and behind was the original art for Fighters History even had the instruction manual and 2 player 6 button holes layout hiding as well I didn't even have to drill so much fun. But my main goal and passion in arcades is to have a MK cabinet preferably not converted but hey I'll take what I can get. Slippery is right man.
