I got an easy way to fix the lore of mortal kombat: Make everything that is Mortal Kombat 9 to 11 be a Johnny Cage movie trilogy that bombed. Then have the rest of MK continue after Armageddon.
@@NSFSponsor Depends on the endings of Armageddon. MK9 changed a lot of things that either included retcons of Armageddon or are extremely unbelievable. Especially shao kahn winning... since, you know, he took a 'ride' with a dragon, away from the Pyramid. Taven also seems to be absent in MK9 ending as well, especially since the storyline ending of Armageddon was Taven winning.
Mortal Kombat was like most fighting games. Too many plots and not enough talent to write it. And when we faced development deadline, I offered a solution.
@tyrone kinard if they restart everything from zero that's of course the way to go. But, if they just make minor rewrites and keep the plot going I think using the spinoff titles to cover that places of the lore which the main games wouldn't touch should be the best alternative

It would be cool, if they took the story line from the perspective of Liu Kang and Kitana creating a new timeline by removing all the classic villains (Shang Tsung, Shao Khan, Onaga, Shinnok, Quan Chi), thinking they're correcting the problems of the past but instead some classic good characters become villains.
I think it would be a good twist if during the timeline reset Liu kang learns that onaga is his ancestor and by removing him he’d remove himself so he can’t and onaga becomes the main villain in the game
I feel like Onaga works cuz of the *Dragon King’s invincible army story* in which any of the villains like Shinnok, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, or even Sektor or Havik could try to get their hands on controlling the army but then Onaga shows up (cuz of Reptile’s metamorphosis side plot from *Deception*) as the true Dragon King and becomes the major threat and final boss
Onaga could still work as villain because he's yet to make a proper appearance in Neverrealm games, he was defeated canonically on screen only once and he was defeated by the power of almost every Mortal Kombat character in history (and his defeat had a proper set-up and felt satisfying). He also have the whole plotline with Kamidogu and One Being which would be interesting to reexplore.
How about this, Tremor could be the right hand for Kabal if he runs the black dragons. Boom, the black dragons would be a force to be reckoned with against the Special Forces in the new timeline!

Really want to see Drahmin come back. He could legitimately be a terrifying force with a slight redesign and MK hasn't really had a character that's just straight up beastly without turning them into jobbers or making them a joke in some other way.
Drahmin has gained a huge fan following ever since he was adapted to MUGEN games. It turns out that his 4 special moves from Deadly Alliance are perfect for a 2D fighting plain. Perhaps if enough people demand that he return, maybe Netherrealm will listen.... maybe.
I don't know about Erron, he's kinda cool in concept, and you could really make him a nice true neutral force in the conflict (like Scorpion in his best days from MK 2 to Deception). But still, that goes for every other character if they're treated by writers who knows how to do characters instaed of jobbers/super important persons who does all the stuff for no real reason (seeing you D'vorah).
I like the idea that Kitana finds out Jerrod is in Ermac and calls him father, which causes a light to go on in Ermac's head (among other things). That causes him to seek out Sindel and when he reveals himself to her, Sindel has a moment of clarity. All 3 (4 if you include Jade) unite against Khan and free Edenia as a reunited family.

TRIGGERED - Tanya's moveset in MKX was brill, the most fun ive had with any MK character to date. The teleporting moveset was amazing - Gratned if they gave that moveset to another character, i'd still be happy.

I'm one of those rare, dedicated Soulcalibur fans. They're the only fighting games I keep playing for a long time. I vote yes for taking on SC and Tekken characters in this style. Sure, Street Fighter too.
I'd keep Erron Black, since he brings few interesting things to the table. We should have at least one gunslinger, and as an outlaw, who escaped to outworld, he could be a motivstion for Sonya to be interested in the tournament. There is alot of interesting directions you could take his character from.
Keep: Havik and Hotaru (there is so much that can be done with the chaos and order realms, adding freshness to another retelling.) It could've been introduced a bit better. Cause tbh from a story standpoint they seem like this plague that Shao Kahn nearly managed to wipe out but then Milena and Kotal openly habe one in their court until she does the most obvious of betrayals. Twice. Even Shao Kahn pretty much wants to kill her if Kronika didn't put some vague "protection" on them that more or less protects nothing.
I’m starting a writing Challenge if people are down. Write an MK story with the characters that are kept by 4th in this timeline, plus you can bring back 2, and only 2 of the characters he cut. For example, I’m bringing back Kano and Tanya for mine. You can twist the lore however you want but it still has to be Mortal Kombat. Have fun.
Replace Shinok with Onaga is my first thing 1st game plays out normal (In mk 9 verson of the 1st game..to a point) 2nd game changes: Shao Kahn and outworld: will not let shang tsung fight after failing last time. However he tells him to start getting things ready for the next tournament. Making deals with the oni and vampires (vampires help make scarlet) Make mileena not a replacement as much as someone who can train with kitana because Kahn thinks she is getting too lazy after getting beat last time (Kitana does not trust Mileena and thinks she is out to kill her..Really,It is more of the fact of her DNA that be the problem she is...unruly) Sheeva is brought in cause goro got hurt really bad..By Kung lao of all people during the 1st tournament so,his pride is kind of hurt and Kahn basically called him useless and said get a better fighter in there. The kollector: Basically is Kahn's randal running around snitching If people seem to be ploting behind his back or goes over and tells them what they are met to do when Kahn is too busy. He is more Shao Kahn servant yet does Kahn likes em cause he is actually a shivaling coward who knows his place and does not plot on Kahn. He is smarter then he looks and knows what to say to get people to do what Kahn wants without just saying "Kahn says so". He convinces Kitana,Mileena just acting like what a tarkata does when come of age and blames Shang (Shang and him fight for favor with Kahn) convinces Goro then send Sheeva in his stead cause he still has a scar from his fight last time. Taven:Is on a quest to go find some magical artifact in each realm cause a voice told em they could end all the problems mortal kombat has caused by doing this. Shang: Is mainly making monsters for this setting. But, is more or less planting seeds of betrayal..a killcode and a killing code..He plots to use Mileena when the time is right to kill Kitana when the trust is built and use Scalet's magic to depose of any other problems and then kill Kahn and steal his soul. Ermac: Shang and Kahn have no idea what Ermac is..He came out of the soul pool while Shang was trying to make a super being out of It..He seems to obey for one minute then act out the next..Helping the heroes and soemtimes outworld..His voices changes when personaities take hold 3rd: Kahn lost and tries to invade earthrealm..plays out about the same..Everyone is in there sides as in the game. Shang: Brings by the queen with his magic and puts a spell on her to keep her soul under his control. Taven and Reptile: are working togethor to revive what Reptile knows is Onaga..at the end of the game they manage It...However,Taven has no idea who Onaga is and convince he is some ancient god who was trap by a evil god. Onaga ask Taven to give him a boost from his power and Taven does..Taven is weaken But, Onaga still keeps em around since he is a powerful fighter even when weakened. Sindel: Will serve outworld til Shang gets knocked out during a fight with Taven..She slowly starts recalling who she is...She will pretend to serve Shao Kahn til a right time then try to overpower him..She is just slightly below his power level (a 7 to his 8) But,she manages to close a portal which would let a larger assault in and during he faking she convince Baraka and goro to take there armies back on Kahn's orders. Kahn does beat her in the end cause you know..boss fight jazz. Ermac: After Sindel's death Ermac unveils he is somewhat king Jerrod. Shao Kahn said he ate king Jerrod soul but in truth his soul nearly killed Shao Kahn so he threw It into the soul pool hoping he would lose his will and mind..But,what he did was take over Sahng's soul puppet so he could take his throne back. He attacks a weakened Shao Kahn..Kahn kills him but Kahn retreats after this because Ermac more or less made It so If he got into one more bad fight he would die so he flees back to outworld..Kahn Also has the mind to end Goro and Baraka's lives and their whole races for leaving..Sindel and Jerrod meet in the afterlife the two dead lovers finding peace and before leaving giving Kitana a boon that might be a use later. 4th: Onaga is back..After Kahn's failed invasion he comes back to see the dragon king on his throne smirking. goro and baraka are sick of Shao Kahn's tantrums and abuse so they convince their clans to side with Onaga. The vampires and Oni side with Kahn since well they are more contract mercs then have a say in outworld. Shang is not getting involved (Which will bit him in the ass later) After Kahn is overthrown Mileena, kollector and Scarlet go to earthrealm to get help on Shang's orders..He knows what Onaga is and what he is up to. And that is just a idea of what i got as ideas
What if Kabal is a special forces informant/ undercover agent, that Kano then finds out, plays along for a bit, set the trap that ultimately leads to Sonya's original partners death, or maybe he is Sonya, original partner, griefstricken at the sight of his deformed face, he defecated his life to putting an end to the black dragon, and instead of just reforming the black dragons because I'm evil now, after mk he uses the re establishment to lure out former members to kill them, eventually Sonya finds out that Kabal survived and either tries to help him come back to special forces or she goes to track him down and arrest him

Something that I've heard of is, that Frost is allegedly the younger sister of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang. This could be used as a reason for her hatred. Because I heard that she was allegedly left with their mother. Whilst they went with their father
If such a snap were to occur, Kollector could replace Kano as the character that is unanimously hated by the rest of the roster (justifiably or not), with the exception of Shao Kahn; he just needs a bit of extra lore relevancy. I think that making him Shao Kahn's sidekick in usurping Jerrod instead of Sindel would work really well, and could allow for a Sindel redemption arc because then she wouldn't have been evil the whole time. Plus, it would give a better reason for the Naknada to have an improved status after Shao Kahn took power.

I thought the selections you made were sensible. In my personal opinion, a hard reboot could bring back every character over the course of several games. Some would need redesigns and changes, but a good writer could make it work. An idea I think the writers should emulate is what G.R.R.M. Does with Game of Thrones. Simply put, having multiple characters across multplie locations each with their own motives, allegiances, and desires. These characters then play out the smaller stories presented in their factions or locations, while also having interaction with the main story and it's conflicts. This whole idea would require a good writer with good knowledge of the series and a love for it. A lore master would also help a lot. As mentioned above, I believe all characters have a potential for good stories. Two in particular have some potential I would like to share. D'vorah- She falls into a trope that many new villains go through when. they are first introduced. Her killing of Baraka, Scorpion, and Jerrod screams of "Love me, I'm cool". My idea for her goes like this: She is a simple person with aspirations of greatness. She is decent at fighting but, not good enough to consider as a fighter for the Tournament. However, Shao Kahn declares a smaller tournament to determine who will take the last Outworld spot for Mortal Kombat. She sees this as an opportunity and signs up. Shang Tsung takes notice of her and the potential for his plans. He speaks to her personally and offers to train her to get the spot. As he trains her, he slowly corrupts her with his magic to increase her strength. She wins the Tournament and is given the last spot for Outworld. She is a formidable foe during the Mortal Kombat tourney. As she grows stronger however, her mind becomes more mentally unstable, turning her from a simple person into a monster. She is finally defeated when her mental state causes her to lose a fight against Liu kang, who is able to outwit her confused mind. She is badly injured from the fight, missing limbs and close to death. The last thing she sees is Shang Tsung standing over her body. She the wakes up in the flesh pits, strapped to a table. Shang Tsung then enters and reveals be was vetting her to see if she would be good enough for his experiments, though it may take years to perfect. Perhaps a few games later, after Shao Kahn dies, Shang Tsung decides to fill the power vacuum. He reveals D'vorah, turned in a hulking, grotesque monster with magical abilities. He uses this to secure his power base. She could serve as a sub-boss. Geras- He is quite boring. What if they gave a reason for this. Just drop Kronika from his story. Let's say he is the champion for the elder gods. He came from an unknown realm. He is a warrior of great skill, but is grim and stoic. He remembers his old life and his family who have died long ago. Centuries of repeated death and ressurection have turned him into a shell of a being, with each death turning him more and more into a soulless husk. He wishes to die for good, but the elder gods enjoy him as their champion and constantly resurrect him. Perhaps one day the magic is broken, wether through a powerful magic user or the elder gods are usurped. He finally dies for good, and has the peace he has desired for so long. This is all of course my opinion. The ideas also might not be the must structured as I have only sat with these ideas for a few hours. Please leave any criticism or thoughts. If you have your own ideas on these characters or others, I would love to hear them. Thank you for taking the time to read this. :)

Sort of the Harley Quinn of MK. Member of the Khaos Dragons) 26. Kai (Shaolin warrior in training and steps up when Lui Kang dies.) 27. Havik ( Leader of the Chaos realm & The Khaos Dragons) 28. Darrius (Dominant Member of the Khaos Dragons & Trained Martial artist) 29. Sindel (Mind Controlled and Empress of Outworld) 30. Jax (General of The special Forces and a dominant Leader) 31. Quad-Borg ( I'll explain later) 32. Blaze (Being made for Taven and Rain to decide who will conquer and rule all realms) 31. Sektor made an alliance with Smoke and Frost to make a cyber initiative and forced Cyrax against his will. So they merged their minds and powers into one and became Quad-Borg therefore they all can still technically be on the roster. And it gets pretty intense since there are 4 minds in one body creating chaos, destroying Quad-Borg completely.
Eh...I dont think the Kombat Kids should be in another game unless their respective parents are older versions. IMO, if we are going to reboot the series, the "next generation" should be the first thing to ditch.
Yh I remember slim Moloch in Deception 😂 original storyline with ironed creases is much better than current timeline. Wouldn't mind Onaga coming back maybe the Saurians worshipped him in Zaterra and the other misfit races like the vampires and orochi and oni - a different faction instead of just here's the good side here's the bad side
Erasing Kronika is all well and good but honestly the first character that should naturally go is that abomination to the Lord and everything holy that is D'Vorrah.
I think these are tremendously fun! Hearing the process you go through, it's not out it's interesting, it's enjoyable to watch. I don't know if you do collaborations with other RU-vidrs, but it would be probably a lot of fun to see you and a few other RU-vidrs draft a lineup of players for your game. Hearing the reaction of seeing you snag one character and maybe miss out on another would be great to watch, and it would be interesting to see what everyone's roster looked like at the end of the draft. Just a thought, keep making great videos and I look forward to the next one.
You gave me an interesting plot idea, I think that Kenshi should either kill Ermac and put his souls in Sento to have like ultimate Sento, or Ermac should kill Kenshi and absorb the souls in sento giving him access to sword powers, I don't want either to be removed but I think it'd be a cool story moment
I like this roster for the most part but you cut off both the Red Dragon and the Black Dragon. You should at least keep one tbh, especially since Kabal is a thing.
Skarlet And Mileena kinda have really similar relationships to Shao Kahn I think they’d view each other more as sisters or fight for his favor. But Mileena getting with Kung Lao would be interesting. Sorry I forgot that this was hard reboot so if you change Skarlet’s origin you can totally do Mileena and Skarlet
He mentioned last video that Skarlet and Mileena are more like sisters then Kitana and Mileena. Maybe this relationship could be explored. Cause its clear Kitana doesn't care for Mileena
You could probably move at least one of the Chaos/Order kharacters to the cutscene section. Maybe make some others sonnected to it, like maybe Noob. (Think that was in an ending somewhere)
An idea I really liked in the earlier games that would breathe new life into some of the roster here is The Brotherhood of Shadow. The MK 2 version, not any of the other retcons from Mythologies or MK 4. A secret sect of assassins and/or exiles from their respective realms. That way you can have Noob, Smoke, Jade, Sareena without the previous links to *anyone else* from the roster. Therefore you can create new lore and characterisation for them.
I would definitely love to see a "Roster Duster" for other Fighting Games. Would love to see a Tekken or Soul Calibur one. And a Street Fighter one. Plus, Roster Duster just rolls off the tongue quite well. I do disagree and think the Black Dragon guys should be in the 'hypothetical' reboot... Especially Kano since he's technically a Legacy Character who was in MK1 and 3. But, I do understand your reasoning and agree with everything else. Especially D'Vorah. Cutting her immediately would be fantastic...
Considering the other games have rosters that are a bit more contained, I reckon he'd be making a lot more people upset with his picks than he reasonably could with Mortal Kombat
Even so, Roster Duster has potential and I think it should be applied to other games. Especially Tekken since they have a wide Roster. Not MK Big but quite a bit large.

Tekken definitely makes that job much easier thanks to the non-canon featurances of a bunch of extra characters in the Tekken Tag Tournament games. Unless, he specifically decides to not include the TekkenTT games, which'd make things interesting
Love the roster reboot(not my perfect close enough) however as for story I feel Sonya Cassie and Jax(cutscene only I know) has no story to follow without any black dragons being involved and for their replacements smoke could be added to further sub zero story, Kai for lui kangs story and throw reiko in the background to even everything out

You did notice that you wiped out an entire faction, right? You were going to keep the Kollector of all people (granted you changed it by the end) for race representation (even though he has no serious storyline relation with any kharacter beyond Shao Kahn, which should be considered when deciding whether or not to keep a race or not; keeping Nitara is a good example of race representation like that she brings an entire realm to the lore, can be made to have a connection with Skarlet, Ashrah etc) but not a single person from the Black Dragon, the primary nemesis of the Special Forces? They made a whole game centered around taking them down! (granted it was the worst of the series but that doesn't lessen their significance in the series). Who to bring to represent the Black Dragon: KABAL Why? Because of many reasons. He's one of the very few kharacters who is believable both as a force of good and evil, without having to be turned into a revenant. He's aesthetically great (I imagine they brought him back in MK11 mainly because of this since there's a lot about him to customize and show off (or maybe woke NRS wanted a disabled kharacter to represent PwDs)) and has always had a great, and more unique moveset and abilities (so there's no Kenshi problem). He's an OG. He has relations with kharacters outside of his own faction and the Special Forces (Havik; in fact Havik would need kharacters like Kabal in order to be fully fledged since he's all about stirring shit up and there's a limit to how much chaos he can create on his own). Most of all, he's simply and quite frankly, undeniably way more interesting than anyone else associated with the Black Dragon (I mean, isn't that the reason why somebody would not put Kano in, even though he's as OG as it gets?). Who to cut instead: SHEEVA. We don't particularly need a female Shokan, at least not beyond cutscenes. Goro already represents the race pretty well. Otherwise, Baraka ought to be removed. His design is great and he's an OG, yes, but he's hardly ever had any real significance in the story and there's hardly anything to tell apart between him and any other random Tarkatan. If Mileena is left to represent them, there's no real need for him to be there besides be her fucktoy. (Side note: If there's another slot to add Kabal, it might be better to replace Sheeva with Kintaro since he could be the one to burn Kabal again (if anything from the NRS timeline is to be brought back again) and this could serve as a motivation for Kabal to fight against Outworld if there's another Earthrealm vs Outworld story).
I think Kano should still be the one to represent the black dragon, only because i think Kabal is a much better character when he is portrayed as good. I think through all hes been through, he should make that switch to being good again. Which i think Kano still has potential doing something, besides we don't wanna get rid of one the orginal 7 people. We haven't for sonya, and she's as bland as bland gets
Nah, let's give the Black Dragon rep to Tasia, let her have a game after two decades of being stuck behind in the worst game of the series. I would argue for No Face but imo he will always be better as a boss/background character than a "main" one.
@@jaernihiltheus7817 Tasia is a great character not gonna lie, same with no face. I think they would be highly praised if they were in, but I don't see them as necessarily being leaders of the faction.
Losing both Dragon clans sounds pretty lame ngl. Personally Kabal and Hsu Hao are my favorites of the respective factions, so if I had to chose one representative for each it’d be them

I largely agree with your list. Not really much I would change. I would maybe keep Onaga and Shujinko because I have a soft spot for Onaga and I really like the idea of Shujinko being a master at the Shaolin Academy.
I'd actually keep Blaze around due to how he progresses throughout the story and see how this creation of the gods come to terms with his role/fate since he's the only End Boss that Isn't truly Malevolent/Psychopathic. Edit: I just think there could've been more done.

Honestly Time Travel (unless you establish the rules incredibly well and enforce them) is a story-telling dead end. And in the case of MK11, involves you just sort of excepting that these characters have always been there, and accept that.
I could say my idea for erron black could be more of a side story, still would like to see him in the game but when it comes to reboot, he wouldn't work with or without my idea about Erron Black, but i also agree about the Rain thing, he seems more fitting

Also I know nobody really liked Kobra except me and a few other people but if you expand on him personality wise I think he could make a decent rival for Cassie, like maybe he and Kira are orphans who get abducted by the black dragon and trained to go after special forces after Kano takes notice of Cassie and feels like he can’t keep up with the newer generation, maybe they defect and join the special forces after Kano pulls some fuckery or Cassie Or Her Parents talk to them in custody. if people still don’t like them go into hiding or witness protection or worst case get hunted down. I’m thinking an Ed and Falke from Street Fighter V faux-sibling relationship between them. Or if you don’t want to do black dragon have Daegon kidnap them and genetically modify them and indoctrinate them into serving him. It’s just an idea.
Rain’s a character who both Midway and Netherrealm kept hinting at making a key factor in the story, and then they just don’t. In MK Armageddon they make him the half brother of the main protagonist and antagonist, a wildcard that could be a major threat due to his secret parents, then they just throw him away through a text box. In MKX they keep implying he wants to stab both sides in the back and take the throne for himself, maybe even raising his own rebellion, but he just runs away after one fight and we never see him again
Okay unpopular thought but what if you moved Raiden to Cutscenes and made him the BoRiCho teacher role and gave the Elder God Leader Role to Liu Kang? Then you could have Kai be the New Liu Kant we were teased with. Just a thought..
