you can get a waiver on the ASVAB for this MOS, and what they dont tell you is that the method of clearing a minefield involves sticking a pole in the ground to see if there is resistance...
I just walked through for an hour a few days ago. That museum is definitely the best military museum I’ve ever seen. You could spend several hours in there just learning.
They didn't have all the fancy computer stuff and vehicles when I was in, but I bet that 90% of the job is still just digging holes and pounding pickets.
Nice to see the recruiting command finally portrayed and "Honest" descriptions of what a 12B actually does. My recruiter in 1977 glossed over so many essential roles, Stayed with with it for a year then volunteer for E.O.D; best thing I ever did!
Simplified version: You want something built call the 12B’s Need something blown up call the 12b’s Need some bodies stacked call the 12b’s Infantry May lead the way but Engineers clear the way.
My father was a 1LT when he got out, but was a 12A in Germany when it was West Germany, post-'Nam. Re-mapped southern W Germany for the first time since WW2. Airborne-qualified, 9th Engineers, out of Achafeenberg (sp), W Germany. (Now we call them CEBs). We built my folks house together - he was the "foreman" over me and paid subcontractors. The only 12 series thing we didn't do together was explosive demo - only 8 pound sledgehammers for demo... but, he did mention to me as he aged, that when they built all the bridges up over the Rhine, that they had demo charges in them, preset to be blown in the event of the massive Russian tank invasion anticipated. Thankfully, those charges weren't needed. Thank you to all Army COE.
most physically demanding mos in the Army and they have a couple hundred 10-pound girls telling us about it..... they disgraced my MOS... I graduated the class 1982 from combat Engineering Fort Leonard Wood.... there's no way these two women could be on my squad and do what we needed to do in the field.. Woke gets soldiers killed
Never saw the video the recruiters showed you when signing up. I just enlisted in 12B because I thought it’d be a decent combat MOS. When I went through they didn’t have these armored vehicles classes, just MOUT and demo. I guess it’s just a few more weeks of shitty Missouri Just a heads up to all you future sappers out there, you’ll basically just be infantry when dismounted but you also will pound pickets for hours on end
@@sonny_3033 took the asvab already, haven’t gotten a confirmed date from my recruiter, but I’ll be going to MEPS soon. I’m in the ATP program, which means I’m doing this all as a high school junior, so basic training will be in the summer of 2021
Soliders in the 12B MOS should be ready for the following: Pointless formations Countless layouts Demo ranges maybe once a year Being infantry's bitch A lot of picket pounding And a lot of hurry up, shut the fuck up, and wait Basically, other than picket pounding, every pointless Army cliche except for your fucking job. SAPPERS LEAD THE WAY, HOOAH!
Here we are at misery, Ft Leonard Wood. "File from the left, column left," said the Sergeant, We didn't know we could. We're gonna to be Engineers, for our Uncle Sam. So, we can fight those World War Twos, Koreas, Vietnams. [Chorus] Cause we are, Mountain Movers - Mountain Movers, Castle on fire. Weapons and equipment and man-power. Yeeaah! Nothing is too hard for us and nothing can't be done. Just tell us where we have to go, we'll do it on the run. [Chorus ends] Hey, Mr President, tell us that we can. Fight for freedom and liberate oppressed lands. Over hill, over dale, we hit the dusty trail. Drive on Sergeant, you we'll never fail. [Chorus] [Cadence with marching background] Drill Instructor: Left, left, left right. Troops: Always first! Drill Instructor: Left, left, left, right. Troops: Bridge the gap! Drill Instructor: Left, left, left, right. Troops: Breech the wall! Drill Instructor: Left, left, left, right. Troops: Shoot to kill! [Cadence and Marching Fades] Drill Instructor: Left, left, left, right. Left, left, left, right. Left, left, left, right. Engineer's Song (C) by William Cooper
This job requires that you need to learn is basic hand tools.... such as C-4! Ha ha ha ha! As a 21B, my 12Bs were class acts. When everyone else stops or retreats, it's always the call "ENGINEERS FORWARD!" Essayons!
@@ToweringDoc no the military police have their own MOS, and are hated by every other MOS. It’s good work though if you plan on becoming a police officer after
What they dont mention is if you get sent to a mechanized unit, all youll be doing is pounding pickets for miles in full gear or operating the ABV. Thats it. Honestly looked like the most miserable MOS you can pick.
@@ShaqEalOatmeal Depends. If you want combat but want to feel important go 13F. If you want an MOS you can use in the civilian world and one that pays well choose any 12 series job minus 12B. Just avoid the first choices your recruiter gives you and if you have to wait for better options, do it or score higher in the asvab. Cook, MP, infantry, combat engineer and CBRN are all MOSs you should stay far away from.
I’m confused, where’s the sitting around in the mp? I’d say do any other MOS besides this one, you really won’t get to do your job. It also really doesn’t transfer over that well into the civilian sector.
Well yea, motor pool was boring. And transfer to civilian jobs really sucks. The confligeration in the Middle East, though. All the boredpm tested and secured.
I’m interested in this job but I wanna know what kinda construction they do and how often and how it could transfer to a civilian job within construction
@@werick7349 you say that until you’re doing your 4-5th 12 miler for a “not really a slot but just a chance to see who we would send” train up. Or you become a team leader and have to go pick up your Joe for driving drunk at 2am into the wood line to later get yelled at for not knowing where he was on a 4 day weekend.
Believe it or not you can use black leather gloves instead of gauntlets to deal with concertina wire, if you are gentle with it. Wire gauntlets get tangled up if you yank it around.
This looks really interesting. Maybe when I finish my school, I would like to immigrate to the US maybe to be a combat engineer. But one one question is: Do I have to study engineering or will I learn it there during the training?
Take everything with a grain of salt because you will most likely be on red cycle details all the time, I regret being a 12b this mos is useless in the real world.
I would like to add something to my comment..its not a job for the faint of heart. Its hard and wet and cold...There days you go without food and your socks are wet and a week old. But you roll out and do your fuckin job. Cause you are a engineer.
When your out on a mission and if your the senior man you can do anything( within reason) to accomplish the mission. But besides that you aren’t just doing whatever you want if your a new guy
It's very hard work, long hours, a lot of BS & spend tons of time in the field. Avoid all combat arms jobs in the army especially if you have a family.
