@@rithe07 This is still one of the top MOS's in the Army today as it was 20-25 years ago. This MOS is not for just anyone because it requires a high aptitude as well as high interest. You need to have at least a minimum foundation or fundamental in basic sciences in high school or college such as biology, chemistry, algebra, etc. You have to have a strong interest in medical lab science and health care. You can be afraid of blood, needles or disgust of other bodily fluids such as bloody urine, stool samples, bone marrow, sputum, etc. The MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician)program, aka MOS68K is still 52 weeks long. It consists of 26 weeks of phase 1 for lectures ( classroom training) at the Academy Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. For phase 2 ( 26 weeks) is the OJT (On Job Training), you could be assigned to any Army Medical Labs in any of the Army Medical Centers of small Army Hospital or Clinics throughout CONUS (Continental U.S). After you complete your phase 2 you will then graduate and receive your order to your first duty station. In the civilian side of the house, this same training will take 2 years and several thousands of dollars. The Army Medical Department has been providing excellent training in this area, especially during OJT with new, current lab technology. This is just a little training background for this MOS. I rank this as one of the top MOS's based on several factors. 1. Civilian job exchangeability. After you graduate from the program you are qualified to take a Board Exam to be certified as a Medical Lab Technician by ASCP ( American Society of Clinical Pathology). You can easily get a good paying job in a Med Lab tech out in the civilian labs in health care field or in a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical industries. 2. You can get college credits worth as many credits as for an Associate degree, or even an AS degree, depending on how the current affiliation other program with other universities, e.g. the George Washington University. 3. Career path in the Army itself might have slow promotion, but the opportunities to branch of this MOS are huge, e.g., pursuing a BS degree and becoming a medical technologist or clinical lab scientist and then apply for a commission as a lab officer. You can apply for the histology school, PA ( Physician Assistant) school, etc. 4. Receive excellent medical lab training in the U.S. Armed Forces. Other branches, Navy and Air Force do not have any med lab training any where near what the Army Medical Department has. In 1994 I enlisted for this MOS. It was 91K back then. I had to attend 10 weeks of a combat media as prerequisite for this MOS. I had served 6 years in this MOS. It was well worth every single day. I later got commission as officer and left the service years later to work in a biotech field. I hope this helps you. Wish you the best!

@guilbertmedina325

@TopDoggyRobby
@TopDoggyRobby 4 года назад
Guilbert Medina cause you’re never going to be a good lab tech or a good soldier. You’re always going to be caught between work and soldiering and you won’t be up to par at eigher, that especially sucks when in the civilian world a lot of labs arent going to hire you without a bachelors and although you get 60 college credits from completion of this mos and a certification if you pass it you’ll never get a high paying lab spot and you’ll be making as much as 30k a year which you almost make as an e4. Second, the promotion points are ridiculously high and theres hardly any time for soldiering, remember you’ll never get promoted for being good at your job, you get promoted for range cards and courses which you’ll never have the time to do because the lab is priority. And between all that try finding the time for a higher education or hobbies. Depending what lab and what duty station you might be working 12 hour shifts 4 days a week, getting called in more often on top of that. This is a real job, and being a soldier is also a job, you’rr basically working two jobs. This isn’t like a combat mos where you only really have a job when you’re deployed, so you have 100% of the time to focus on soldiering. If you join the army you’re gonna want to do army shit which you’ll be doing none of here unless you get lucky and put in a field unit which you shouldn’t bet on. If you really want to be a lab tech, pick an exciting mos you can see and do things you’ll never be able to do outside the military and go to school while you’re in or use your gi bill when youre out and go do this as a civilian. No lab tech likes being a lab tech unless you’re at like fort dietrich in research and not patient care or you’re in a field unit. Working at a hospital is tough, even tough on civilians and they don’t have nco’s giving them extra duties and other military priorities and military red tape or inconveniences when they go home. And when a civilian gets sick or gets a holiday off who’s getting called? You.

@arzeivah

Jazz Black Valcin all depends. for 68W, your skilled technical should be minimum of 101 and your General technical should be minimum 107. i’d say aim to score above a 70 asvab score and work on the word knowledge / scientific portion
