Agree. 1999 was special with the return of Dr. Dre with his classic '2001' album while an young and hungry Eminem broke out with his amazing Slim Shady LP album. Cash Money, Rocafella, Ruff Ryders, Aftermath, Murda Inc, Bad Boy, Rawkus and No Limit were the hottest rap labels while Nas and Mobb Deep ran QB and Mos, Pharoahe, Roots and MF Doom brought heats.

I think a lot of people listen to this thinking its just like a lot of other rap songs rapping about some chick with a big ass. This song is a warning! It's because he's a real lyricist rapping about real life and important shit not money, guns, and hoes like other more "famous" rappers. He's a great actor too, warch Something the Lord Made (2004). He is brilliant in that movie.

Everything about this song is perfect. The storytelling, lyricism, and delivery are all too notch, and I LOVE the production. The instrumental is so good. The sample is one of the best ever, and everything in this song works so damn well. Perfect song, one of the best of all time :) Side note, I even love the ransom stuff mos says between verses haha. It adds to the storytelling so well, like he’s just casually telling you what went down ;)

mos def deserves credit for recognizing the genius of Aretha's One Step which is a criminally underappreciated song that came out in the 60s. Even Aretha didnt put this on her song list in concerts , a forgotten gem.
