When you run the wood thru the table saw to make a dado you need to clean all those ribs off and make it smooth for the best contact between the wood. Buy or make a router plane.
A beautiful design, but very unclean execution! You can make closed glue joints, as well as accurate miters and a rebate can be cleanly finished with a rabbet plane. But with blunt and dirty chisels and planes, this is also difficult to produce.
