I watched this movie as a kid 50 plus years ago. I loved The Wonderful World Of Disney movies on Sunday night on NBC. In the fall they were right after the late football game. Yes, when people had lives and Sunday football did not last from noon till 11 pm. Disney used real actors and actresses too. I recognize Jean Cooper and Nick Adams. One observation. There are a whole lot of soldiers that fall into the creek at the end of this movie.
He was a little guy, wasn’t he? Amazing, though, how tough he was. Wounded so many times, but lived to be an old man. Too bad that he like Longstreet was ostrasized when he support Grant. Grant has got a bad rap but he was truly trying to follow a moderate policy, which is pretty much what Lincoln would have done. but lacked Lincoln’ skills.
The wonderful thing about these movies, all of them is that people take their time for others for nothing other then the joy of doing it...Very very kind and Thank-you!
I had a friend and older mentor that was a Civil War historian and collector as well as a veteran of the turmoil thatr took place in Odessa. He was also head of a local American Legion post. I used to visit his shop on lunch breaks and attend many of his presentations held locally. Mr Liebman, born just before the turn of the century grew up and attended college in the Virginia community and was a young friend of Colonel John Singleton Mosby (then serving as a US Diplomat). Mr. Liebman always told me that as I grew older (I was in my early 20's then) and expanded my interest in the Civil War, that I could tell friends that I shook the hand of someone who shook the hand of Colonel Mosby.
I must have missed this movie as a 12 yo kid, but really enjoyed seeing it now. Disney was once an All American Company you could count on for great family entertainment.
Great movie!!!! I really liked Jack Ging as Mosby. Also really liked the performances of Kurt Russell, James MacArthur and Nick Adams. I can remember watching this when I was little, it's still one of my favorites.
Also I would like to give an honorable mention to some of the commenters on this site you guys are some really great actors you’re self😂To all the ancestors lies lies lies LOL bunch of Scally wag’s
Don't forget the pedophilia. Research it several movie producers for Disney are convicted child molesters as well as a former vice president of Disney.
Now the only thing is the Leftie Marxist Agenda....VOTE TRUMP boys and Republican for the foreseeable future to get the wagons together and keep USA haters at bay. Thats an order men!
Yeah, Disney has gone woke. They had to make another Lion King so a female lion could become king (queen?). Next, they'll make a Lion King win a black colored lion and then an asian looking lion and maybe even a gay lion.
I had a book I bought in 1967 sold by Disney via school book orders. It had still pics from this movie and the story line and was called "Willie and the Yank."
I love it. Didn't know this film existed. I have members of my camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans who are descendants of soldiers who rode with with Colonel Mosby. THANK YOU!

Yep, as I'm sure you are aware as an Elvis fan. The song was originally a civil war era song named Aura Lee, Elvis heard Steve Allen's wife Jayne Meadows performing it with her sister Audrey during a recording session at Capitol. Fell in love with it, Jayne let him know it was in the public domain. The lyrics were changed to Love Me Tender and the rest is history.
@@cmcb09 Although I'm a West Tennessee resident, and University of Memphis grad, Class of 89, I really never knew the history of this song. I was a huge Elvis fan, respect and like his work, but it's a treat to find this out. Born Chicago, raised Tennessee, I would have been a Union supporter, for Country and Human Freedoms. Remain clear on that subject.
I grew up in Fairfax Va. in the 1960s...Truro Rectory is where Mosby captured Gen Stoughton, right across from Fairfax Court House. Of course the movie is filmed in California, so the scenery is "western"...but I stumbled across this movie never knew it existed...Mosby was a local hero all my life...Fairfax was "occupied" by the Union at times, but was a Southern town.
Well, there's the country singer Bill Anderson, and then there's the Disney producer Bill Anderson [1911-97], who had been with the company from 1943-84.
very nice watching this movie ..I had seen it in my youth and caught ..up with me now that I am old.. The Civil War as told by Walt Disney productions ..Got me to do more research on American history I must of been 9 or ten ..thank you for sharing.
One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Great story with splashes of factual history. The part that made me really sad was when the movie ended and the credits started rolling.
Ray Rucker I was 9 years old and I watched all of this Disney movie there's more to the story a lot more tension a lot more stupid stuff really dead thinking he was doing right and Henry and blah blah blah so I guess I'm disappointed that it ended too and such a thing
Mosby's Marauders Starring Kurt Russell, Nick Adams, Jack Ging, Peggy Lipton, Donald Harron, Jeanne Cooper, James T.. Callahan, Robert Sorrell, E.J. Andre, Michael Forest, Steve Raines, Michael Pate, Michael Kearney, Robert Random, John Crawford, Amzie Strickland, Forrest Compton, Walter Matthews, Norman Leavitt, &: Maudie Prickett.
It,s amazing to see how young Kurt Russell was in this movie. Would,t it be funny if Goldie Hawn was sent back in time and met Kurt Russell at this age while she was already an adult.
As a NATIVE VIRGINIAN, and a Son of Confederate Ancestors, both sides of my family, it's great to see a Pro Confederate, Pro Ol Virginia movie!! I'm 57 and I still remember The Wonderful World of Disney Sunday night show on Tv....... The good ol days for sure. Thanks for putting this old movie on RU-vid......I hope the politically correct Police don't take it down. Deo Vindice y'all
I like how all these Civil War soldiers are all clean cut and decked in out in these nice clean uniforms. Justb you ever smell a soldier after two weeks in the field? Yeah you sleep eat go to the bathroom in the same clothes. You can smell them before you see them.
James MacArthur starred in some very grown-up & even artsy movie projects starting from a young age (he had well-connected parents) before Hawaii Five-0, which was unfortunately the one most people remember him by. Also did a few stinkers. And he did even more stage acting than film, usually along with his adopted mom Helen Hayes. I have a collection of some of his really obscure TV appearances.
Really pretty good for the time. The Stoughton affair did happen with Mosby penetrating Union lines. Mosby and Capt. Richard Blazer did confront each other but not in a “wedding ambush.” I’m the author of “Headquarters in the Brush: Blazer’s Independent Union Scouts” which examined the scouting companies Blazer actually led. It was published in 2001 by Ohio University Press.
57:36 *Michael Pate;* aka Vittorio, the Apache Chief, movie "Hondo" starring John Wayne. *Peggy Lipton* (Mod Squad) was always such a natural beauty. *Kurt Russell* was certainly a polished professional at 12 years old.
Great to see JAMES McArthur, rip🙏 And young Kurt Russell showing how a young actor can act well.. And the message of why can't we just get along together 🗣️🙏🆘💓🌎🥺🌍
In 67 Nick Adams died later that yr The Rebel [TV show ] was a hit for college kids in the early 60's Adams went from a Drifter to Superstar overnite in a Combat episode he plays a Beatnik character and Sgt Saunders gave him a speach that gave him spunk enough to be a hero but anyhow he dies in 68-69
As a reenactor of ACW & ECW,I enjoyed this. And it was great to see 'Jamie','Johnny'&'Danno' in a film.together.The Rebel was b4 my time,I discovered it thanks to The Net & only have vague memories of Jamie McPheeters. But saw 5-O as a teen I think.
Hell! You's right, boy! Them's goddamm Yankees! Taint right. This 'ere tv movie tells it jerst like it reeeally was. Why, truth be told, WE won ther civil war not thems Yankees! Long live the Confederacy an' Robert E Lee!

"I liked Kurt as a child actor in everything he did, but in later years I only liked certain things he did Escape from New York, and L.A.,Tombstone,and a few others but not a whole lot, also Jack Ging is an Oklahoman as I am also."-🤠🐴🖥☕🌐..
What happen in the past good and bad shaped our present day to a better country. Why can’t you people see that. Some of you argue over traitors to this country but it made us a better nation. The south help win the revolution war in Yorktown Virginia. The South fought together in all wars except the War Between the States you would think by now people would have gave the south forgiveness for fighting a second war of independence and if you say it was slavery there’s proof the North and black people owned slaves throughout the war . He that is without sin among you , let him cast a stone . Don’t forget to enjoy the movie because I did.
Nice effect. When they cut the telegraph wire at 36:25 there is just the hint of an electrical discharge, just as there would have been in real life. And I read once that during the Civil War desertion took place all the time, especially among the volunteers. So, this interplay between Adams and MacArthur might not have happened at all in real life. A really well-done tense search of the house. Nicely directed.
Yes! Desertion was very common for a variety of reasons. Some deserted more than once, and some made a career out of deserting. You see, during the Civil War, any draftees who did not want to serve could pay another to serve in his place, and therefore some men enlisted for the specific purpose of later deserting, so they could be paid to serve again, and again.
That confederate soldier looks familiar. Reminds me of a guy I used to know... thought he was dead. Special Forces Unit, Black Flight. Two Purple Hearts, Leningrad and Siberia. Youngest man to be decorated by the President.
The Disney Channel had (has?) a program called "Vault Disney" which featured obscure old Walt Disney projects. Once they aired a 3-hour miniseries re-titled "Willie & The Yank" which is nothing more than this "Mosby's Marauders" movie except stretched out with a whole lot of subplots & deleted scenes that were not included in the theatrical version. It goes into more detail about some of the characters' family issues & conflicts between MacArthur & Russell, & between the Union & Confederacy. So glad I taped that version, unfortunately on VHS otherwise I would upload it.
