@@TL.... All people are accountable to God whether or not they have “heard about Him.” The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In reality, it is not that some people have not heard about God. Rather, the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle-everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known. God is a good and just God, and as Abraham said, Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” Genesis 18:25 God will not send a innocent native American to hell.

I suppose in 1956-57 when this movie was first shown in movie theaters, on the big screen, and at a time when special effects weren't yet the best, this monumental scene must have gotten audiences stunned or gasping in amazement. Wow.
I saw this movie on the big screen and it WAS awesome. How the hell do you figure it condescending? You're sounding like a dem, always finding faut with, and/or crabbing like hell about everything. Go, run to your Meryl Streep and hide.
I would say the greatest pre-CGI effects were in the chariot race during _Ben Hur._ But this scene is amazing! Before deMille, who knew what Jello could do? 😁
The greatest special effect shot in the history of cinema. And it doesn't age much at all -- which is astounding since it was impossible to miniaturize water back then. An amazing achievement.
Let me tell you this scene never fails to amaze me. This movie was made in the fifties and to do that type of special effects is remarkable even for today. Fantastic!
It doesn't matter weather you're Jewish, Christian, or Atheist. You cannot deny this is one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. A true spectacle!

UrbanGirl Paris although I think Exodus: Gods and Kings was more focused on the action and fighting rather than the wonders of God, I think the music and scenes in that movie were amazing. Esp the music
A movie quite ahead of its time. The special effects were nothing short of astounding for that time period. Yul Brenner and Charlton Heston played superbly off of each other here. The dynamics between Nefetiri,Moses and Ramses gave this story extra layers. This scene however was Hestons stamp on this movie. However more importantly, This demonstrates the AWESOMENESS OF YAHWEH On ALL levels. YAHWEH IS THE LORD OF HOSTS AND YESHUA(JESUS) IS THE TRUE KING AND SAVIOR OF MANKIND.
I know.... he must have done something to all of those Egyptians in Sinai and Canaan before the Israelites got there... since they were Egyptian possessions in the 2nd millennium BCE.
I would have liked to have seen Moses depart the Red Sea in real life. That will be an awesome sight to see. Today God is still doing amazing things that words cannot comprehend. God is good.
Its amazing to me how people have to turn the comments on here into a debate about religion. Appreciate it for what it is! The greatest scene from one of the greatest films ever made!!!! Behold its mighty hand!!!!
Absolutely! In an age when there were no computer graphics technology, such astounding special effects demands a salute to the creative genius of the films makers. This is art, not religious debate
Cameron Williams It would be interesting indeed to get comments from people who know NOTHING of Religion, especially Christianity, and viewed this film from that standpoint. Moses would become something like Gandalf. From that viewpoint, I think we can still stand in awe at both the acting, direction, and special effects. Especially THIS special effect.
I have got the hardest heart when it comes to movies but let me tell you every and I do mean EVERY time I see this I cry...if a movie that's over 60 yrs old can do that without today's technology it's gotta be good
Still one of the greatest visual effects shots in film history! Cecil B. DeMille wanted to make a epic even bigger than "Gone with the Wind", and he hit a grand slam with this film, his swan song before his death three years later.
The Ten Commandments it's the greatest movie epic for all time after Gone With The Wind, Qud Vadis & Around The World In 80 Days & before Ben Hur, Spartacus & Lawrence Of Arabia
check out the cinematography/direction when the three women look in awe at the splitting. they are arranged in a classic pyramid, with that beautiful angry sky- looks almost like an el greco background with a botticelli forground
The special effects of this movie and the acting beats any blockbuster of today and even from the 2000's, 90's, 80's... Still wondering today how they did that with the sea
Justin - yes, and the amazing thing is that the line is given to "the bad guy" of the film. I have a sneaking suspicion that Yul Brynner insisted on getting this line put in so that his character would be seen as courageous even though he is clearly the villain here.
I watch this great movie every year when it airs on ABC, and I love every minute of it. The movie was shot in the Vistavision aspect ratio, and it looks stunning on the HDTV's that we have today. Producer and director Cecil B. Demille certainly knew what he was doing when he made this classic, and if you don't believe me, then try watching the truly wretched "Noah" that was released some years back for comparison. You can't praise Charlton Heston enough for his legendary performance as Moses.
Sad thing was that despite God's showing his power and signs, israelites were disobedient and turned away from God countless times, and he let them experience the pains and consequences of that disobedience.

Agreed. I'll bet you anything that Yul Brynner lobbied hard for that line, if only to show that even though his character was the principal antagonist of the film, he was still a courageous person.
"Why is nobody talking about this badass quote" Badass? He just watched fire and water do impossible things... and he's too proud to humble himself. This isn't badass. It's a man too blind and weak to accept reality. Sad.
