If we have different mosfets, with different W/L ratios then current will change accordingly. (In the ratio of W/L) If other parameters are also different (Vgs, Vt), then you also need to consider them in the ratio, since they will not get cancelled.

well, for example, the approximation is alright !! But if you are designing a circuit with specific requirement and specific tolerance then you need to go for exact values. Also you need to see the availability of the resistors of specific values. Some times the calculated value of resistor is not available and you might need to select the nearest possible value.
