Enhancement-Type MOSFET (Construction, Working, Output characteristics, and transfer Characteristics) explained.
Enhancement type MOSFET is similar to the Depletion type MOSFET. It has three terminals Drain, Gate, and Source
But there is no default channel present between the drain and the source terminals, Hence it is normally in OFF condition at zero Gate voltage.
To flow current between Source and Drain, We have to apply a voltage (Vgs) between Gate and Source terminal, Then a conductive channel will be created between Source and Drain.
This Gate and Source voltage (Vgs) which is required to form the channel between Source and Drain is known as the threshold voltage (Vt). And once the channel is formed then by applying the voltage between Drain and Source terminals (Vds), we can flow current through the device.
So, whenever Gate to source voltage (Vgs) is less than this threshold voltage(Vt) then Enhancement MOSFET remains in OFF condition.
And once the channel if formed then, as the voltage Vds increases, then the drain current Id also increases.
But at one particular voltage the pinch-off condition will occurs, and the drain current Id gets saturated, this is called saturation voltage Vds (sat).
In the video, the pinch-off condition is explained in detail.
Different Regions of Operation:
The MOSFET can be operated in three regions.
1) Saturation or Active Region
2) Linear or Ohmic Region
3) Cut-off Region
