This is mine and my husband's favorite "extracurricular" for CFM. The importance you place on the actual scriptures, as well as providing the screenshots of them, plays a huge role in that!

Gideon is one of the coolest people in the BoM. He’s more unknown, but he keeps popping up in these chapters doing incredible things; fighting king Noah, leading righteous men in battle, uncovering the priest’s unrighteousness kidnapping, proposing their escape plan, giving his life testifying of Christ!

Good quote re the Sabbath. I used to judge others who were mowing the lawn, gardening, swimming etc. 'till I realised some of them have the Saturday as the Sabbath and probably think I am doing the wrong thing wearing trousers on Saturday and mowing my lawn on Saturday. I decided to leave the judging to God and I am busy enough without worrying about that sort of thing. I did have some visitors one day and the mother asked if I could have a hit of table tennis with her son. They are Chinese born and were being given a hard time due to virus here and also their business was going badly as a Chinese restaurant and takeaway. I don't normally play on a Sunday but felt it would be a kind thing to do under the circumstances. The son was young and could not play well so a very soft game and he was laughing and the mother smiling. I still felt a little guilty though for not teaching my beliefs.

Thank you for your lessons. I was thinking about the discussion regarding Alma being baptized after leaving King Noah's service. I have seen a close friend lose their membership and then later repent and be baptized again to regain membership in the Church. This just made me think of times when one might get re-baptized. Just a 💭 thought

When you see it, reply YES! Mosiah 18:30 And now it came to pass that all this was done in Mormon, yea, by the waters of Mormon, in the forest that was near the waters of Mormon; yea, the place of Mormon, the waters of Mormon, the forest of Mormon, how beautiful are they to the eyes of them who there came to the knowledge of their Redeemer; yea, and how blessed are they, for they shall sing to his praise forever.

Finally got the chance to listen to the end. Now I’m picturing Amulon being summoned before the king of the Lamanites to explain himself, and perhaps getting his comeuppance.

I was really impressed with your take on the young women turning to face the attacking Lamanites, and stopping them. If it happened as you postulate, then it is an overlooked act of incredible bravery, on par with the stripling warriors. I’ve shared this with others, who have shared it with their daughters. Want more good examples of women in the Book of Mormon? Look no further.

Again, as I read the Book of Mormon in Arabic, when a covenant is made, the words used are to "Cut a covenant". The covenant also has reference (in Arabic) with the hand and wrist. We see on old movies, people make a slash on their hands to join blood and make a personal oath or swear allegiance. This same phrase (to cut a covenant) is seen throughout the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. I also think of the phrase that we are cut to the soul. This could also be a meaning for this. And FYI as concerning Bedouin travels, they can actually move about 40 miles in one day with pack animals and sheep.

Thank you so much for guiding me through these verses. I love to mark my scriptures as I read along with you and receive additional guidance and insights! I'm excited to read more of these people's history someday....how did Noah end up with a kid like Limhi?...when you think about it, how did Zeniff end up with Noah?
@brotherfullmer

I've wondered exactly those same things!
@dillybear87
@dillybear87 4 года назад
I've been thinking about that too. The Book of Mormon does mention how Noah drank wine abundantly. We also know he had many wives and concubines. Based of scripture he seemed to have had a substance abuse issue that took over his life and made him make very poor decisions. He seemed to have no self control. I wonder if with his father around, he was able to keep it in check, but without a leader or anyone superior to him, he gave into it completely. Limhi probably saw how much of a mess his father was and didn't want to be like him.

Your insights and reading of the Word, brings the Holy Spirit every time : ) thank you so much. Also a question: what did the word "Mormon" mean to the Nephites (King Noah)? Anyone know??

Question : I'm curious how we know that the Lamanite army was able to track them for two days at the end of 22. I would think all those recording this journey would be long gone...it isn't clear but I guess you could speculate they sent a spy or something to check in things? Thoughts?
@brotherfullmer
@brotherfullmer 4 года назад
Great question. I lean toward the notion that this information came from Alma's account. Those Lamanites eventually explained their story to Alma (Mosiah 23:36-37) which may have included the "after they had pursued them two days, they could no longer follow their tracks;" portion eventually summarized by Mormon. That would be my guess.
@nadinek8959
@nadinek8959 4 года назад
Just a thought, why did the Lamanites want King Noah? Could Noah been short changing them? Is that why they were attacking them in the first place? Also I love your thought on Amulon teaching about language. It dose make sense.
@jonfullmer4387
@jonfullmer4387 4 года назад
You know, that's true. We don't really get a reason for the Lamanites attacking King Noah. I've always assumed that Noah's people were successful enough that it was time for the Lamanites to glut themselves on their labors (or try). It would certainly play to Noah's character to have cheated or short-changed the Lamanites in some way.

Hi you blokes. Did Alma have the Melchizedek Priesthood ?
@tylerwinters3706
@tylerwinters3706 4 месяца назад
The Book of Mormon doesn't specify when Alma was baptized or where or from whom he received the priesthood. However, some say that Alma may have been ordained by Abinadi, a heavenly messenger, after leaving Noah's people. Others say that Alma received his priesthood from King Noah, and God recognized the ordination's validity when Alma repented.

You know what I realized? The only way that the people of Limhi were going to be delivered was through the Lord and in His way and time. I had the thought of how Gideon was the one to propose the idea of getting the lamaintes drunk. Ive never connected how his idea is probably a wonderful example of personal revelation, because it wasnt Gideon who delivered them, it was the Lord. So Gideon must have been living close enough to the Spirit to recieve the idea that lead to their escape. Thanks for opening the door to my own revelation about the importance of being able to recieve revelation.
@jonfullmer4387

It would certainly make a lot of sense. There seems to be a lot more to Gideon's story than we're given.

We love to listen to you both!!! You're very uplifting and knowledgeable.... but the mind can not absorb more than the seat can endure.... maybe you could divide your presentation into approximately 30 minute sessions so that we can enjoy one per day. It's too difficult for us to just listen for 30 minutes ourselves because we don't know when is a good time to stop and retain continuity of the stories. Thanks!!!
@jonfullmer4387

It's certainly a struggle. Both Jay and I are used to the Sunday School "approximately one hour" format, so most of our episodes are going to conform to that. Yet, there are clearly some episodes like this one in which we'll have too much to cover in just an hour. If it helps, remember that this is also an audio podcast that you can subscribe to through Apple Podcasts, Google Play, etc. You'll miss out on the visuals, but at least you'll be able to listen to the discussions while you're driving or doing some other menial task. Thanks for watching!

As one of you were talking about Messiah chapter 18, you wondered if the people had become Christ centered. Yet, you seemed to skip over verses 7 through 11. Those verses describe the covenant to honor the second great commandment. You may enjoy hearing children singing “My Baptismal Covenant” at jennyrichardsmusic.org, based on those same verses.

I think I heard you say the internet was invented in the US. It seems it was invented in CERN Switzerland by a British guy.
@jonfullmer4387
@jonfullmer4387 4 года назад
Hi, Pauline! Thanks for listening to the show! Just a quick clarifying point about the invention of the Internet. Forgive me for geeking out about this, but I've been a Network Engineer professionally for over 20 years, using the Internet for over 25 years, and a general IT Professional for over 30 years. If there's one thing I'm almost as passionate about as the Scriptures and music, it's computer technology and communication. The Internet was invented in 1969 as a communications project for the US Department of Defense (at the time, it was called ARPANet or DARPANet). Fun fact: the first four nodes or "points of presence" of the Internet were four American universities: UCLA (CA), Stanford (CA), UC Santa Barbara (CA), and the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT). Through the 1970s (and particularly the 1980s), it became the world-wide network that we know today, eventually including many protocols that we still use today (DNS for name resolution, FTP for transferring files, SMTP for sending email, etc.). Each of these protocols have key "command" words that are based on English. For example, SMTP uses "MAIL FROM:" to tell the receiving mailserver the email address of the person who sent the email. FTP uses commands like "GET" to retrieve a file and "PUT" to upload a file. These are English words and are used around the world, regardless of the language that the user speaks. Even more to the point, until 1993, the only way that you could represent text at all on the Internet was using a "number to letter" code called ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange). It wasn't until 1993 that the much more popular UTF-8 (Unicode Transformation Format) code was developed and allowed for a LOT more characters than just the English-Roman alphabet. ASCII is still in use today, but it was never designed to support things like Asian alphabets and the wide range of accented characters in European languages. The "British guy from CERN" that you're referring to is Tim Berners-Lee (excuse me, Sir Tim Berners-Lee). He invented HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) to join the already existing protocols I just mentioned. This was first demonstrated at the tail end of 1989 (20 years after the Internet had been invented). Now, Sir Tim Berners-Lee definitely deserves the credit for inventing what is unquestionably the most popular protocol on the Internet today (HTTP), but HTTP (or the "World-Wide Web", as it was once called) is not the Internet. It's an application or protocol that uses the Internet. And aside from that, the commands and keywords of this protocol are, once again, English ("GET", "POST", "Host:", etc.). The whole point I was trying to make is that even network engineers and system administrators in France, China, or Brazil, are going to need to know these protocols and their commands and keywords, which are in English. If you're in Argentina, and your web browser's display shows all menus and buttons in Spanish, when you click that link, behind the scenes, that web browser is still communicating to the distant web server using English. Now, this isn't the only reason English is the modern "Lingua Franca", but I think it's a big one. I hope this was helpful! Thanks again for listening!

@@PaulineSommers Thanks for reading my answer. :) Google and Wikipedia were probably not wrong, just misleading. HTTP or the World-Wide Web certainly made the Internet what it is today, but...it's not the Internet. Thanks for putting up with my geek-out/lecture.
