At the local theater (back in '93 when this came out) the guy in the booth would turn the sound system up to max right during the T-Rex roars. You could feel the roar reverberate through the ground from hundreds of feet away. It set off car alarms in the parking lot, lol. Then in Jurassic World, they cut the T-Rex's roar off right at the end, what idiots. Ruined the whole film.

This movie solidified my fear of dinosaurs. The most vivid memory of this movie I had as an eight year old after I had just watched it, was the T-Rex. I knew about dinosaurs as a kid but nobody told me they were extinct. So I kept getting terrified at night, thinking that a T-Rex would look into my second story bedroom window, snatch me out of my bed and eat me. So for the next few years I couldn’t sleep with my bed in view of my window.

While in retrospect Lex messing around with the flashlight was indeed stupid, I can imagine a plausible explanation; she's freaking out, looking for something, anything, that might help keep them safe, then she stumbles upon a device and suddenly her attention is dragged away from it and towards the incoming threat, and a small part of her brain is unconsciously still processing the fact that she grabbed some sort of tool to try to save herself, and with limited processing power and awareness, a section of her brain just goes on with the plan of using whatever it is to try to save her life despite not having the whole brain available to fully process what she's doing. Kinda reminds me of this time when I was a kid and I was having lunch with my family, distracted with the conversation, I had just served my plate, my glass was still empty, there was the juice, sugar, keptchup, salt etc on the table; and as I was focusing on the conversation I was just automatically finishing up getting set up to eat, and instead of sugar I grabbed the bottle of ketchup and squeeze a huge dollop into my glass instead of on top of my noodles, the wires about the intention of putting sugar on the glass and ketchup on my plate got crossed and I performed the right action with the wrong thing...
@SImrobert2001

I think part of the problem is that while people understand fear, they do not understand *terror.* Like, I volunteered at a children's hospital, and there is a complete difference between someone who is completely panicked and someone sitting in a corner not knowing if their tests are going to come out normal or not. What LEx experienced was akin to something FAR beyond what even I have seen. She's against a massive, 2 story predator that is 40 feet long. They are both looking for items that could help. She likely just hit the button the flashlight and not even realizing what it was. That kind of terror can absolutely lock a brain so it doesn't process new information. Like, I could totally see her not able to process what button the turns on and off the flashlight. Heck, there are times when i've been trying to move a switch, only to find out the flashlight was a twist model. That kind of terror is something people never usually experience for more than a few seconds at a time. Its usually seen in war, and as a result, most people won't understand it.

Yes exactly, at some point I believe Alteori allows her bias to look past such facts. Survival isn't some hard program code where you automatically chose the best or rational action. Also, I take issue with her raging about not squeezing through the fence. I never thought of squeezing through the fence as a kid, and I don't think it's a hot idea as an adult. For one thing sticking together as a group, because what if a carnivore appears on the other side with the kids while Alan is still climbing? Another thing is the risk of getting caught in the fence it looks like they COULD fit but is the risk of being stuck in an electric fence worth it?

I love this movie, but I've gotta wonder how Spielberg pitched this movie idea to the studio, because it was such a massive undertaking and it took crazy amounts of robotics and CGI to get the dinosaurs to look so real, i like to think the studio literally didn't understand what he was telling them at the pitch meeting and just went with it anyway because of his track record, like; Spielberg: I want to adapt this book "Jurassic Park" it's about this island of prehistoric monsters and animals that's being opened up as a tourist spot, but there's a deadly turn of events when the animals get free and start attacking guests. Studio Exec: any idea on the cast? Spielberg: I'm thinking Laura Dern, Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum and this Australian actor i've seen pop up in a few things recently as the male lead for the cast. Studio Exec: I guess we could make a movie about Tourists trying to survive, and Australia is pretty popular. Spielberg: Australia? oh right, yeah, it's just a shame there are no Dinosaurs, just crocodiles. Studio Exec: Dinosaurs? oh, right yeah, great monsters if you can make them look real - alright - well, you've got your greenlight buddy. *1yr later* Studio Exec: Steven.... WTF is this?! I mean, it's awesome, but i thought you said you were making a movie about tourists in Australia being attacked by crocodiles! I told everyone you were making it! i'm gonna look like an asshole!! Spielberg: what? where'd you get that idea, i clearly told you this was about an island of prehistoric monsters and animals opening up for tourists but people get killed by the.... ohhh..... ohhhhhhhh yeah, yeah.... i see the problem....

I was truly moved as I sat in the theater. _Jurassic Park_ sparked a sense of wonder in my soul. This is the movie which showed the rest of the world that computer graphics had advanced to the point that they could render realistic living creatures. Almost 30 years later, we're still tweaking our computers to make renders better, but the astronomical leap they made in this film won't be duplicated. _JP_ is one of those films which changed everything about film making afterward. It's right there with _The Jazz Singer_ for introducing sound and _The Wizard of Oz_ for introducing color. I also read the book, and Hammond was a bastard in the book. No "sweet old crazy rich grandpa" vibes there. In the book, the kids' ages were switched (making Tim the older sibling) and Tim was the hacker. Lexi was there -- to scream and cry to be rescued. Yeah. She was completely useless in the book.

ALSO ALSO. 30:03 "does getting shocked by electricity cause you to fly like 16ft back" in some cases yeah.... like a few years back a group of people went for shelter at a park, standing under an awning with a metal support strut and railings, well lightning strikes sending 20 people into a wall like they were shot out of a cannon. but there are some cases where if the amps in the leader of the electrical charge is strong enough, it causes your body to seize up like a full body cramp. hell it happened to my uncle when he accidentally connected the terminals on a car battery, i had to smack him with a 2x4 plank to get him off the battery, cause if i touched him, i'd have been lit up too and we both would be killed. the human body being mostly comprised of water makes it a dandy conductor for an electrical charge, so if for a split second you have enough of a charge going through the body, it'll jump when shocked. even a live wire with sufficient charge will dance around like a hose with too much pressure going through it
