some funny anti-theistic remarks taken from The Mosquito Coast
(for those of you that didn't see the movie, the lead character (Ford) is not an atheist, but a deist of some sort)
PS: in the first clip, the reverend never said "some", but whatever..

By the way, I highly recommend The End of the Spear. It's a non-biased account of Jim Elliot and the missionaries that travelled to Ecuador to present the Gospel to members of the Waodani tribe. The missionaries were speared to death over a mis-accusation by the tribesmen who thought they were only there to bring trouble and disaster. Mincayani, the leader of the tribe, became friends with Elliot's son, and over time he gave his life to Jesus after seeing the non-judgmental heart of the boy.

Not sure why the Atheists are taking Allie's side, considering that he's making them look bad.
@hrromanslaparsso4403
@hrromanslaparsso4403 Год назад
Yes and no, in reality that missionary should realize that he is crossed this man's line long before. His arrogant presentation sets Allie off, not the other way around. This is why it doesn't make Atheists look bad. The way it does make them look bad is the fact the Allie is fucking crazy in the end.
@Shanethefilmmaker
@Shanethefilmmaker Год назад
@@hrromanslaparsso4403 you missed the point of the movie entirely. Allie is capable of great things. However his own pride and his viewpoint Clash is not only with other viewpoints but with reality. Yes the Missionary does push his message as most Missionary do, but looking at his family, they just seem to be ordinary nice people. Hell the only things he did here, was be neighborly and offer preserves and jokingly berate one of his followers for missing church. Was he insensitive? Yes, but other than that he was trying to be nice. People forget this is one if the few movies where Harrison Ford is playing the bad guy other than What Lies Beneath. Any other atheist in his position, would have simply argued their Viewpoint and moved on. Allie was dedicated on destroying the man and proving him and to an extent God wrong. It's not that he doesn't believe in God he hates God. He thinks God is responsible for the way America was back then. He thinks God sent this man to destroy his invention when an actuality all he was doing and being nice. To top it off the whole thing started because he lost his mom to a disease and blamed God for it.

@Rawk4Life

The same could be said for hardcore Atheists. Why do they always think they are right, and everyone who disagrees with them are wrong? Don't single out Christianity just because you don't like their ideals.
@spocksvulcanbrain
@spocksvulcanbrain 3 года назад
Uh. Because no evidence has ever been shown that gods exist. Therefore the religions on which they're base can not be accepted as true. So yes, atheists are holding the only rational and logically true position.

It’s so weird how dedicated people are to defending a fairy tail that is “all powerful” yet never goes out of its way to even prove its existence (except apparently about a 1000 years ago). Maybe if you guys actually followed your own book and didn’t use it as a means of control you’d get less criticism. But that’ll never happen because mostly stupid people become religious. The few smart ones use you idiots for their weird whims.
@PianoSoulos
@PianoSoulos 3 года назад
@@spocksvulcanbrain People get hung up on "God" because they think of an actual deity in the sky that is personified and don't view "God" as simply a higher order. Only a self-centered, narrow-mined individual would dismiss the fact that rules, laws of nature, whatever you want to call them do exist, all bodies within our conscious realm are required to abide by these laws, and finally there is a power structure/hierarchy that is clearly evident. Going from this premise to believing that there was intelligence, thought, and order involved in creation of these laws is no longer that much of a stretch, and the reason they exist in such a way is extensively far from random.
@spocksvulcanbrain
@spocksvulcanbrain 3 года назад
@@PianoSoulos The problem is that your definition of "God" is nothing like the absolute vast majority of people use the word. So your revisionist definition is worthless in a discussion of whether there us a god that made the universe and us and has rules for us to abide by with a promised afterlife.
@PianoSoulos
@PianoSoulos 3 года назад
@@spocksvulcanbrain That's a fair point, I was just merely pointing out the closemindedness perspective of the definition in general, essentially religion in its current, understood form. Your original comment stating there is no proof, but the order/hierarchy that we are required to abide by, and the likelihood that the way it's all pieced together isn't just random happenstance, in itself IS proof if looked at from a more open perspective. Simply put, "God" are those rules and they are greater than oneself, a force/law that extends and exceeds beyond everything.
