it is awesome. i had the pleasure of playing good old cod3 online back in the day. i was known as xOSOKxNATEDOGGx. vividly remember people doing the snake glitch, (a glitch that enabled users to be prone in game and still have all of the abilities as if you were standing up normally) had many a asshole zooming around in prone with a rocket launcer zoomin around blowing mfs up. ahh the good days.
@@craigachuff6087same here. I grew up on games like timesplitters and BHD. But never had internet access or a modem. But thanks to ps3 backwards compatibility, I finally got to play multiplayer online for those games around 2010. And wow those games were really ahead of it’s time back then. Still had some people playing
I play a decent amount of the Killzone events. There's an event EVERY Sunday at 3 PM EST. Usually, you'll get around 5-12 players, but even with 5 players, the spawns in Killzone make it a great time.
Huge thanks for the love for our community. I'm glad you enjoyed everyone. We have a wonderful group. It will only get better with time. Thank you for all you do. I'm glad you got to experience Tribes Aerial Assault. If you ever want to join again to play. You will always be welcome with us. I will pass on the video in my normal places. Hopefully it will help you out. Thank you so much for helping us out. We don't get a lot of exposure. So what you do is so important for these retro gaming communities.
@@MAWK3 We know how important the exposure is. I have been able to reach old players by groups still being used. Some from creating and recording our games for yt. Some twitch, reddit, X (twitter), etc. It's a slow process and has brought back friends from 20+ years ago. That's why the group is so close. So we know the value of having someone who does wonderful content including our group in a video. For me it has always been a matter of finding the other 2k or so forum members. It's why I built a website. It was about archiving the history. These videos all give new players a glimpse into the past and alert old players to the existence of these projects. So it is huge for all the groups that are included. There will be people who watch this and already play retro games. Trying other games as a result of videos like this. For me it is always super fun to watch people play online for the first time on Tribes. It is so much fun to talk to people from 20 years ago when they find that we exist. Tribes didn't get a bunch of advertisement. So most of the players came from word of mouth. It was legit like 13-15 year old kids showing their neighborhood friends. So there were just small clusters of players typically. These reunions have happened in my discord channel over and over. It is always amazing. So I am glad there are people like you. Who are great at making content and willing to help out. I record and put our events on YT but content creation isn't really my thing. I am starting to do a few tutorials for newer players. But I will be glad to be back to just dumping game video on here. :D
@@kevinsteel7875spies vs mercs brings back so many great memories. I've yet to see any other game balance two drastically different play styles so well. it's a shame I don't see it mentioned more in videos about retro shooters
Fun fact about Resident Evil Outbreak, it has consistently had a higher player count than Resident Evil Resistance which released in 2020. Outbreak also plays extremely well on the Steam Deck.
Representing the Outbreak community. I play it very frequently and I'm always online on the main server's shoutbox. We have guides ready to get you set up and plenty of people, myself included, are happy to play with new players and show 'em the ropes. They're easily a couple of the greatest co op games ever made, and you're rewarded by getting good at them.
I have a huge question about playing your ps2 online could you help me walk me through it I would love to play ps2 online any of these games !!! Please maybe I could give you my email ?? I would really enjoy playing my ps2 I just got online thank you I appreciate your time on this very much I would definitely love to get back into playing outbreak I never got to play it or experience it online. I could only imagine how awesome it is. !!! I’ve never got to play my PS2 online ever so that would be so cool to be able to do it.
@@DerreckFknRuge Google OBSRV (Outbreak Server Resurrection). They have complete written guides on everything you need to get you set up to play online.
For those looking for Battlefront 2 online, there is still a fairly active community on PC. There are competitive matches and tournaments hosted on the Battlefront Competitive League discord server every week
Mortal Kombat Armageddon stills on,with somewhere at least 1 or 3 players during the week, but DNS error only happens with the Premium Edition of Armageddon(the one with the UMK3 port as bonus in the extras)if you use the regular version will conect fine
@@JohnTechG sometimes due to frame rate differences,if you match a emulator with a console the match won't work(I had a similar problem with MK Deception when I mach my PS2 with a emulator on PC for testing)you probably match with a console, trie from the PS2 or check the framerate on the emulator match with the game on console
@@gyga100 well i did try to match with a buddy of mine on emulator as well and nothing but my ps2 isnt functioning anymore but ill probably pick up another one when i can and give that shot instead thanks for the info though!
It's incredible to see members of these communities meeting up to play their favorite games from the past, refusing to let them die. I never got to experience online multiplayer on my PS2, but it's so cool to experience it secondhand.
Seeing KIllzone brings back so many memories. My brother and I would play hour long split screen games in Killzone every Saturday afternoon growing up. TDM, I played for the ISA and he always went with the Helghast. Hard difficulty, max bots. Every week we'd rotate who would pick the first map and I always went with Canyon Crossing when he'd usually go with Park Terminal or Beach Head. He almost always won, but man, those were some fun games. Never got to play online, but after scrolling through the comments and knowing exactly where my game and PS2 are, I might just have to give it a try one of these days. My brother doesn't game much anymore, but at least I can potentially make new memories with others on that classic.
That is a PC game though, which is easier to play online due to it being compatible on more devices and having easy access to the files. With PS2, either you play on the original console or you emulate it. Also PS2 Online is a relatively niche thing compared to PS3 Online, most people didn't start playing online until the 7th generation.
Incredible video concept and great production. It is so nostalgic to see these games have people still playing online. It really is a forgotten time of online gaming.
The amount of work you put into these videos is greatly appreciated bro! Thank you for helping spotlight these communities and keeping them alive. Hope all is well!
I am really happy I found your channel, it's the type of niche i really love and your videos are just how I want them. Would love to hear you talk more about bad ports
Ratchet and clank Deadlock was my childhood favorite I still own the Disc even though it doesn’t work hopefully it sees a resurgence so I can go down memory lane
Thank you for uploading this. This very cool too see. I just turned 30 and remember the first time I seen a game online. It was Madden. I was so amazed lol
You remember the player David Webb that guy was beast 😂 (Me) but that series definitely died with that one the psp ones were god awful no stealth no nothing just very generic linear gameplay
EQOA frontiers is my favorite game I have ever played in my life. It’s the start of a life time of fantasy and the love for mmorpg. Just seeing it on the list, then hearing there’s so many people playing is so amazing. I need to figure out how to play it on the pc as soon as possible
These videos are a brilliant advertisement and reminder that these old games still exist and people are still playing them! I hope it will encourage more and more people to get stuck in as player numbers could always be better. I often think considering how many people there are in the world that they would be much higher, but that is obviously not the case haha. Keep up the good work! The PS3 videos are great too.
I would like to see a version of this type of video but with a no discord rule. To see how organically active these games actaully are its not really as suprising or interesting if theres a niche discord that does game nights
The only games you'd really be able to find people playing at any time are SOCOM, Battlefield, and EverQuest. Besides that you usually have to get lucky on the weekends or ask people on Discord.
Crazy, When i was young (probably 15, now am 23) I saw a video on youtube of people Playing Resident Evil Outbreak online on the PS2. this was like taboo at this point because the PS2 online servers had been shut down for years previous to this, It just felt like found footage to me lol. But now seeing that game and many more classics very much alive and back online, brings me so much joy :')
Also played Battlefront on the PSP, but after playing the PS2 version a long time ago. God i sank so many hours into the BF1 Demo and finally got BF2 as a full game. I was only 10 years old when i first got BF2 for my PS2 and i was the happiest kid around, even got up at 7AM on free days just to play the game. Wish i could go back.
Glad you mentioned SWB2 because I remember playing on the original Servers for Star Wars Battlefront 2! Even tho it was on PC but still that game was and still is a lot of fun.
I'd kill to play Twisted Metal Black: Online and SOCOM 1 & 2, THUG1 and Rising Sun with my old clans, bandmates and high school friends. TimeSplitters 3 was also a blast online.
The thing with killzone online on the PS2 is when it first got brought back in 2021 I think it was it pretty much active nearly every night, me and a few others used always be on. Now I guess alot of us have gotten busy and now it's limited to The killzone Event on sundays. I do miss jumping on randomly and seeing people online tho
Same with Burnout 3, when it went public in 2023 it was active almost every night with new names showing up all the time and you were guaranteed to have a 6-player race. Now when you get on it's empty most of the time and on the rare occasion you do find someone it's usually one of the veterans.
I definitely need to play Battlefront 2 on the PS2 again, it’s amazing to even find 5 people on it in 2024!! Amazing video brethren you killed it once again! Proud of you 😁💯🔥✨
Damn I’m so lucky I found this channel by randomly falling asleep to a asmon video 😂 thanks for the nostalgia and information keep up the outstanding work and content
Always a good day when MAWK3 uploads, Another great video and i'm sad i don't have my PS2 around (currently getting repaired), I would have loved to play MGO and a couple other games but i feel like there wouldn't be many players at EU/Asia region, Keep on trucking my friend!
Oh my god. Socom is active? Alright man. This is the video where I've realized I've been holding myself back. The ps2 was my first console but I was too young to understand how any of the networking worked, so I never did, but I've always longed for the curious world of ps2 online. Thank you man. I'm going to figure out how I can get my game up.
A game that in the PS2 version does not have an online version but nowadays people play online via emulator and even compete in championships is Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3. A channel that shows this well is RU-vidr Marlon Chaves, he is Brazilian
Oh man, when i was 15 i used to play Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition every Day!...i even still remember some of the Names of the People i played with. Good Times.
TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect seem to be active enough. TimeSplitters Online (conjoined with former XlinkSplitters) hosts events on the PS2 and Xbox through Xlink-Kai. We are waiting for TS:FP to have online support through Insignia and maybe even a custom DNS for PS2
That's great to see online on ps2 still working..and thank you for making this great list...and I hope you find us psp and psvia games that work online in the future...and thank you again
Keep it up MAWK3, you're videos are awesome and you put it so much effort into researching and getting you're own gameplay footage. Slowly but surely your channel will grow, you definitely deserve a lot more subs than you have right now. 🤞🤞🤞
It's surreal just seeing footage of PS2 online modes. I'm sure barely anybody recorded footage of these games during their heyday. Without these modders, these games would just be relegated to folktales.
Resident Evil Outbreak is lots of fun if you can get some friends together. It plays like an escape room game, and it doesn't get dull on multiple playthroughs.
I never got to play the PS2 online when I was a kid because we had shitty dial-up internet, so I didn’t start playing online until I got a PS3. I am very interested in going back and playing some of these and seeing what it’s like
