@@MrPortSupporter2024 The SANFL clubs in the late 70s and 80s only survived financial due to the VFL buying there best players. From the late 70s onwards the SANFL was only a fedder league to the VFL. The VFL is a break away league from the VFA, which is as old as the SANFL, also the oldest recorded football games happend in Melbourne between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar. But who cares if the VFL or the SANFL is older, which state played footy first or so on. Victoria has so many more people than, WA, Tasmania & ect, it was always going to have the biggest and most powerful league. Victoria has a large population than, SA, WA & Tasmania combined. From memory Melbourne by itself even has a large population. The VFL was always going to come to dominate. Edit, (By more people I'm only talking about the AFL playing states, out of the states that play AFL not NSW & QLD)
Well that’s all good but this is counting premierships from pre 1920 and if you would care to go and look Port where clearly the best team in Australia go look at the 1914 Season and champions of Australia tournaments maybe by 1970 the vfl was better but not pre WWII and were counting flags from the 1800s
if you changed the word Premierships ,with Grand Finals won , it would look different, 1897 and 1924 were Round Robin matches , and The 1924 GF was won on percentage, at the end of the day , even if losing the last R R , as it was a dead rubber , but Essendon claim 16 premierships , but have won 14 GrandFinals ,, 2 RoundRobin Premierships one of which is half Richmonds , seeing that in the last game played in 1924 , Richmond fairly whopped The Dons , academic, pedantic, but a fact non the less , (disclosure, ) GO BLUES.....
