Heard good things about the first Black Rose Wars. Never heard of Harakiri until now. Also, have you ever heard of a game called Arcs? You should check it out, you might like it.
@@AllYouCanBoard Black Rose Wars is my #1 game, its bloated and rules dense and poorly translated from Italian but the gameplay is STRAIGHT UP FIRE. Like, actually shooting flames at eachother and just generally ruining eachothers plans. It is so much damn fun. Harakiri is an amazing looking campaign game that crowdfunder forever ago and still havent shipped, but I am still hopeful it will be rad, hoping to get it this year. And WHOA that Arcs game looks amazing, I better late pledge it like 15 times!
Probably my most anticipated are Wyrmspan and Stonespine Architects. I enjoyed Apiary pretty well and it's designer, best I recall, is doing most of the Wyrmspan work with input from Wingspan's designer. I figure there's going to be great production value there with Stonemaier involved. The dragon artwork looks lovely as well. As for the other one I'm looking forward to, the people of Thunderworks have pleased me greatly with Roll Player and Lockup, so I'm hoping for more good times with Stonespire Architects. The concept reminds me of Boss Monster, but I'm thinking it'll be a meatier from what I've read. I had forgotten about Arcs, much as a love Leader's stuff. Reminds me I really do need to get around to playing Oath. I've had it for a year and haven't gotten it to the table yet, but I do love Root, so I imagine Oath will be great when I get to it and Arcs will be lovely as well. Let's Go! is something I hadn't heard about before, but I'm interested now, so I appreciate knowing about it from it being highlighted here. And I'm glad more people will get a chance to play Through the Desert and struggle to not eat the camels. Seriously, they look like those little candy chicks and ducks from my childhood Easter baskets. Course... maybe the upgraded wooden ones won't look quite so much like candy. There's a 99% chance I didn't eat any of the camels from my friend's copy of the original.
Ooh Kelp and The Old King's Crown really caught my eyes from your lists! Let's go to Japan looks pretty sweet as well. My most anticipated are: Unconscious Mind, FLOE, Ezra and Nehemiah, Daitoshi, Wyrmspan!
I fell asleep to this last night, had terrifying dreams of the three of you walking slowly towards me, snapping your fingers and brandishing new 2024 games as weapons.
I know it's based off a videogame, but I am very excited for Slay the Spire the board game! The fact that I'll be able to play simultaneously with 3 others is what I've always felt like the video game was missing. I'm very excited!
Colosseum: Ave Titus, MLEM: Space Agency, Skyrise, MATRX: GIPF and Cascadero. I already got Terra Pyramides, but not played it yet. Backed Through the Desert w/exp and wooden camels 🙂 Cities seems interesting, I add it to my list. Thanks again Carlo.
I feel like if Dylann is allowed to have a game from last century on his list then Braiden can put an expansion on his…especially given it’s actually a 2024 game ;).
I, too, completely missed the Through the Desert Kickstarter. I watch so many board game videos about new board games- crowdfunded or coming to retail- and NONE made mention of the crowdfunded Through the Desert re-release. It had been out-of-print for quite some time, and I actually only stumbled across the re-release when I saw it listed as a preorder on an online store.
A few crossovers with my most anticipated. Let's Go! To Japan (which didn't even KS until APril and is expected in April 2024). Surprised to hear it was on your anticipated for last year as well. Fromage also sounds very interesting. I'm also highly anticipating Forges of Ravenshire (I think a large part due to the theme), Stonespine Architects, and now Wyrmspan (really anything SM related I anticipate for my solo play, especially after Expeditions and Apiary last year). Critter Kitchen is another one I'm anticipating.
I'm looking forward to Dark Quarter. It kind of seems like Destinies mixed with Chronicles of Crimes. I'm usually not one to like a game so heavily tied to skill checks or so heavily app-driven, but the fantastical New Orleans crime noir theme/setting really tugs at me. Other games on my radar and curious about are: Ironwood, Dead Cells, Metal Gear Solid, Hunt for Blackbeard, Evacuation, HUANG, Civolution, Pirates of Maracaibo
Of the games I haven't backed on Kickstarter or Gamefound, I'm looking forward to Cascadia Rolling, Wyrmspan, River Valley Glassworks, Nocturne, Undergrove, and Gnome Hollow. Wingspan and Azul are two games I constantly suggest to my roommates and usually I get turned down and I play solo a lot now but Azul doesn't have solo so River Valley Glassworks very much has my intrigue. Wingspan is my roommates game and I feel weird about playing it solo but don't really want a game he already has yet, plus I love dragons, so Wyrmspan is perfect for me. Cascadia is one of my top games, so I'm definitely excited to try the roll and right version. Flatout makes some great games, so definitely interested in Nocturne, and the spacial bidding mechanic sounds interesting. I'm not usually interested in bidding, but Nocturne's specific bidding system sounds fun. I actually met the designer of Gnome Hollow, Ammon, at Gem State Gaming Con in Boise, ID last summer and the game looks interesting As for Kickstarter and Gamefound games, I'm looking forward to Robomon (please finally arrive), Dragon Eclipse, Nestlings (also met the designer at Gem State Gaming Con), and Ascendancy.
😢I'm intrigued to check out Terra Pyramides and Cities. NOW! - I wonder how it will compare to Mind Up! - I generally like 'card recycling' games - Knizia's Money! comes to mind. I'm surprised Knizia's Havalandi didn't get a mention (2023 recent release maybe?) - there is just too much to choose from and we are spoiled for choice.
We truly are spoiled. And yes, I think Havalandi is considered 2023 although I'm not sure if it has even been available in North America yet. But we definitely want to try that one. - Carlo
I backed Fromage and am excited about it. It may not be my favorite kind of game but I am buying more games that I can get to the table with more casual gamers and I think Fromage has a chance to be like that. Foundations of Rome is one of those for me now.
Lot's of games on this list I'm looking forward to. The Old Kings Crown, Let's Go! To Japan, the new heat expansion, just to name a few. Great list. I'm looking forward to seeing the AYCB videos about them with all kinds of hot takes. Especially now that I know you're anticipating them. So you can have a proper love when they come out. 😂
Curious about Marabunta, the board game. Less curious about Marabunta, the movie (on RU-vid). 😂 Is it possible to wish that you wondered about regretting anticipating a new board game?
I have a copy of El Grande big box already. I still haven't played it but I plan to try it soon. Also, I wasn't even considering reprints for my list, only new designs. - Carlo
I know I'm DEFINITELY interested. The art looks incredible. But like Carlo said, he already has a copy so we could just play that I GUESS. But definitely one to look out for if you don't already have access to a copy! - Braiden
Oh yeah, we definitely want to play that one but it's marked as a 2023 release. Not sure if it already released in North America but I don't think any of us were considering that one for our lists even though we really want to try it, mainly due to it saying 2023.
Based on the spelling ("Masqué"), as someone whose second language is French, I'm pretty sure it's pronounced: MASS-KAY. I've also heard someone from the company itself say the name on a podcast and that's how it sounded. - Carlo
@truthbullets The Scorpion Masqué rep who said "Mass-Kay" was speaking in English. Think about the movie "Les Misérables", for example. Even if you speak English, you don't use the English word "miserables" in that title, you still say "Leh Mee-zay-rab-luh" because that's the title.
I'm interested in robomon but hardly ever get to play one or two player games. There is someone who created a pokémon ripoff of a DC deck builder game that is REALLY good. I mentioned to him he should get with this Robomon creator so he could re-theme his game and actually get it published since he will never get the license for pokémon.
What a wonderful surprise this morning! Braiden! Heat expansion!!! Let's gooooo Fromage was not on my radar until you mentioned the designers previous games! Now I'm intrigued. Personally I'm waiting for Nusjford: big box since the original has been out of print for so long. I've always wanted to play undaunted with someone and I have a friend that loves sci Fi and campaigns so Callisto is also on my wishlist! Fantastic video as always!
I agree with with the leder games hype. I think ahoy is criminally underrated. So easy to play and learn and the more a group plays together the more the meta grows with your group and decision get chunky AF. Once your group really optimizes their factions moves and optimizes their plays against other factions it becomes an amazing strategy game in such a small box
Really surprised not to see The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era on this list. Chip Theory's high production quality and systems pioneered with Too Many Bones combined with the Elder Scrolls I.P. and artwork? It looks incredible.
I think it was on Dylann's list last year actually, I guess it just fell off his list based on other games sneaking in there. Also, the only game we've played so far from Chip Theory is Cloudspire and we enjoyed it enough but we didn't love it. We'd like to try Too Many Bones one day though for sure. - Carlo
