@MaikuBoy1 well thing is I go to press screenings and the movie will always be shown in whatever special format it's filmed in. Not really my choice in this case.
For it to become the norm it must first become accepted by the average movie viewer, and that's going to take some time yet because change is always a tricky thing. At the moment it's hard to say if 48fps will become industry standard or not. It's still very much in its infancy, and I'm certainly excited to see where it goes.
I remember watching the trailer for Pain and Gain when I went to see Django. I was looking forward to it until I saw Michael Bays name, and my smile just turned upside down.

Serious critics are some of the most annoying people out there, they don't know how to enjoy a movie and they have only one standard that they really hold up everything to which is absolute bullshit, Chris Stuckmann gives the perfect balance of a "serious" movie critic and the regular audience member.
No. No you're completely wrong. If you don't have enough of an open mind to think that maybe a movie with Schwarzenegger or Stallone could be good then YOU don't have enough credibility as a film critic or reviewer. Chris Stuckmann has a HUGE respect for film. He knows what goes on behind the scenes, He tries to see almost every movie every year AND review it, and even if he doesn't like that movie, he can still show respect for the people behind it. And you say all that wont lead to a career?
Just watched Only God Forgives. I was aware of the savage reviews it's been getting and read that it's one of those movies you will either love or hate so i was prepared for either and by the end i loved it. Most of the people in the cinema seemed to hate it. They were laughing and talking towards the end which really pissed me off. If you don't like the movie then please leave. Some people are enjoying the film and are trying to follow the story, it's so rude.
Chris, we had my attention on 2013, lately I´ve been lost into cinema release or almost 2 years, and I lost a bit of interest in new movies (not including Barman or The Hobbit) I´m stuck on previous decades of cinema. Thanks!
Man Of Steel, Wolverine, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, Elysium, Kick-Ass 2, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Only God Forgives, Iron Man 3, Gravity, Twelve years a slave, iron man 3, Great gatsby, the wolf of wall street and the lone ranger all in ONE year. Seriously, this is going to be GREAT!
I love this Guy! I mean he's so likeable and logical. You can't disagree with him. He knows what he's talking about, hes passionite about it. I am really looking upto this Guy. Because Chris Stuckmann Is Fucking Awesome!!!
will you see the new EVIL DEAD Movie coming out in April ??? Because you haven't mentioned it yet in a single video and it looks like the best horror film for the last 20 years.
true, but all we can do is wait.. and dont get me wrong i love chris nolan , he's one of my fav directors, he has done 5 of my fav movies of all time but thats the reason im worried because am i fan and i dont want him going that way.. shamalan started great, he had the same hype and praise chris nolan is getting now ,and their movies are all basically the same.. chris movies all have the same tone and all have open endings.. and shamalan's movies also have the same tone but with twist endings
No it doesn't nor did I say it did. I can conceed that a show is well made made or well-written even if I personally don't like it like for example mad men or the us version of the opffice are shows I personally don't like but conceed theya re well made are aren't my taste however Lost is stinky wether it was my taste or not. It is poorly writtten, badly compiled, complusive executed only good things is the characters. If you want to know how to do that right look at Life on mars the uk version
JJ is overrated!!! He has only directed 3 movies which are totally forgetful. Well made but forgetful. Mission: Impossible III: Saw it but cannot remember almost anything about it other than it wasn't bad. Star Trek: do remember alot but only because I like trek and not because I liked the movie. It is almost the same level as "battleship" but a little more well made Super 8: I started to forget about that movie right after leaving the theater So JJ makes well made but totally forgettable movies
"JJ Abrams hasn't done anything bad yet" Yes he has Lost is rubbish. I am sorry if you want to know why lost sucks watch Life on Mars the uk version and you see how a interesting mystery sci fi thriller actually works rather than havign a an enigma inside a puzzle inside a riddle. I think into darkness will be giood because cumberbatch is great and I agree on man of steel as I hated watchmen.
JJ was the creative force behind the show and it doesnt matter he was behind that series that I hate. I am sorry he is responsible for the shit that was on that show. and I don't care its a movie, Chris said he never made a bad film and I presented a bad project that he was behind,I know its not a movie but hes still responsble for the product.
Chris, no offense or anything, but I cant believe someone with such a good taste on cinema liked insidious, we are talking about jumpscare, after jumpscare, after even more jumpscares with little to no story development at all, unlikeable characters and did I mention cheap fucking jumpscares?
Christopher Nolan is the next M.N.Shamalan .. Yeah i said it .. Im sorry but just think about that for a minute, compare the 2 and their carreers and then analyze ... I love C.Nolan but it really seems like hes going in that direction
Gatsby is bothering me in just the trailers. It looks like a Sin City film don't get me wrong I like Sin City but in my opinion that look does not work for Gatsby. I am happy about the talent but I feel the film is going to be a major let down. -GM
Great list Chris. I like Keanu Reeves also and your Keanu impression made me laugh out loud so kudos I guess. You're not looking forward to Riddick or you only milldy want to see it? Since I'm Canadian I gotta ask: Is Toronto the only province you visited?
wow this year is like sci fi year and comic book year cant wait. Insidious chapter 2 is going to be amazing i dont know how its going to pick up from the ending from the first film. Also you didn't mention the Evil Dead remake it looks really good
iron man 2 has a lot more explosions in it than the first one... And less interesting action. And apparently the filmmakers think that having characters talk at the same time for 10 minutes means that we'll be entertained. But we weren't. It was fucking annoying. All of Tony's character development from the first film becomes nonexistent in this one, and throughout the movie he's more of a selfish annoying prick than ever. Oh yeah, and Mickey Rourke was wasted as a shitty villain. Unforgivable.
Just finished reading The Hobbit book and I can easily see how it is a trilogy. Especially since Jackson is trying to bridge The Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. There will be plenty of action and emotion when it's all said and done. I'm just really wondering at what point the second movie will end since I heard the third movie is suppose to be the journey back home. If that is true then the second movie could easily be 3 hours long.
Your most anticipated movies is basically all the hot movies coming out in 2013, you could of shorten it and do a top 5 list of the movies you must see/looking forward to/very excited to see in 2013
Have you heard of the foreign film coming out in April, Indigo Mood? It looks REALLY interesting and the trailer doesn't give the plot away, so you should check it out! Love your reviews, Chris!
Pacific rim looks robot jocks meets bayformers meets godzillas. It looks terrible, sorry Del Toro is at his best when hes doing fairytales as horror as that tends to be when hes at his best.
video just started, lemme guess... even though you reviewed place beyond the pines last year, youre gonna include that in this vid (ill feel special if you do haha)
I guess you're not a huge horror fan unless it's the atmospheric creepy James Wan like horror films and I understand that but is there a particular reason why Evil Dead wasn't mentioned? or do you just not care for it :)
If I can only see Star Trek into Darkness this year, I'd be set. Obviously I'll be seeing a lot more, but I'm dying to see Star Trek. Cumberbatch.....that is all!
Hey Chris I don't know if you heard, but the Great Gatsby is going to have music written and sung by.........JAY-Z. Sorry if this news ruined your expectations.
Star Trek into Darkness and Gatsby were both terrific films. Man of Steel was also pretty legit. Also really excited for Sin City 2, Elysium, Catching Fire, Gravity, Anchorman 2, and Only God Forgives. Add to that list The Counselor (badass cast + Ridley Scott), American Hustle, Rush, Dallas Buyers Club, Out of the Furnace, The Wolf of Wall Street, 12 Years a Slave, and The Fifth Estate.
Anybody that has a problem with the hobbit being made into 3 movies cannot be a true fan of middle earth. I love middle earth and they can make it into 20 movies and i would be that much more excited. I love being in the universe. People need to remember that this is the only opportunity for jackson to use the appendices and the any extra writings by tolkien. If he doesn't use the extra stuff now it will never be used, at least not for a very very long time.. Again, make 20 parts for all i care.
um, Chris, you might want to take back what you said about Hobbit 2, because none of what you said is gonna happen. Peter Jackson is expanding on the Hobbit book in all of the movies, and actually ran out of time during the first movie, which means there was even more he wanted to show. If you didn't like that in the first movie, you will once again be tremendously disappointed, Chris. Also, Peter Jackson filmed all three movies in 48 fps.
Great list. But you missed a lot of good movies ... Including Coen Brothers "Inside Llewyn Davis", Danny Boyle's "Trance", Ron Howard's "Rush", Chan-wook Park's "Stoker", Niels Arden Oplev's "Dead Man Down", Sam Raimi's "Oz the Great and Powerful", Marc Forster's "World War Z", Gore Verbinski's "The Lone Ranger", Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder" & many more like 300: Rise of an Empire, Riddick, Hangover III
In ways I can see what you're saying, but I still don't agree. First off, Nolan's Batman movies are completely different from his other movies like Memento and Inception despite the tone being similar. And they do NOT have an opening ending in either films, unless you count The Joker being hinted in BB, and John Blake in the batcave as opened endings, but I don't. And Nolan's success and praise have last longer than Shamylan's ever did. Plus Nolan has shown what an excellent writter he is with
I don't see the comparison at all. In my opinion and I think in most peoples opinion, Christopher Nolan has made at least 4 great movies already, and probably the best superhero movie of all-time in The Dark Knight. The only movie of his I can't say I really love is Insomina, but I still think it's a really solid movie it's just his weakest I feel. Shamalan started off so great with three movies, and ever since has gone downhill more and more with each movie.
Chris. You hardly mentioned films that aren't part of franchises. You did mention Nicolas Winding Refn's "Only God Forgives" (which is my second most anticipated). But what about Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" starring Michael Fassbender? Or Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" starring Leonardo DiCaprio? How about my most anticipated: Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave" with Michael Fassbender? Danny Boyle's "Trance"? C'mon man!!!
Spoiler alert, Stuckmann: Catching Fire will suck. The first one was mediocre, and that's being nice, and they just got a far worse director. I am a huge fan of the books, but Francis Lawrence has already screwed up an adaption for me. I Am Legend is a very good book, and the film he made based on the book was god awful. Catching Fire may be my favorite book of all time, but I have zero faith in Francis Lawrence to pull this off.
1) Die hard 5 - Disappointing. 2) Oblivion - Surprising, over expectation. 3) Pain and Gain - Mediocre. 4) Iron man 3 - Fun for everyone, disappointing for fans. 5) The Great Gatsby - Flops, disappointing. 6) Fast 6 - Fun, entertaining. 7) After Earth - the Director is the 1st clue. 8) Man of Steel - this is the movie Fans deserves! Yes, I had watched all!
With all due respect, you are far too mediocre in your approach and tastes to be taken as a serious film critic or even reviewer. I mean, anybody who can even consider that a film with Stallone and Schwarzenegger might be 'good' in any sense lacks any credibility. I hope for your sake that you weren't assuming this would lead to a career or anything....
HAAAHAAHAHAh, When you said 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reaves I fucking physically moved my head back and was about to say "What the Fuck?" But you said, "Now Wait" And you held your finger up and I paused and stared at you without saying "What the fuck?" And when you said ok I started laughing so hard because it was like you were actually talking to me!
Solid list, Chris. Just subscribed. My list is: Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Great Gatsby, Oblivion, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Elysium and All You Need Is Killl and The Lone Ranger. Whew! I may rent out After Earth, but I will not see it at the cinema. Again, great picks.
the last stand 1 pain and gain 2 now you see me 3 the incredible burt wonderstone 4 5 man of steel 6 iron man 3 7 star trek into darksness 8 a good day to die hard 9 fast a furious 6 10 the great Gatsby 11 sntch 12 monster university 13 the intemship 14 red2 15 promised land 16 pacific rim 17 oblivion 18 the lone ranger 19 warm bodies the movie I will see in 2013
A good day to Die Hard = most disappointing film in film history. I expected a lot more from this movie, but seeing that "E.T." Skip Woods and Mr. "Sorry-ass excuse of a Director" John Moore were in charge of this movie, it was very much doomed from the start. Not saying this is the worst movie in the world, but definitely the most disappointing movie I've seen.
Chris i've started a review channel and would like your opinion. I've done lincoln and black ops 2. If i get the opinion of someone who i see as a professional (Thats you) then it would mean a lot. Also most of them films i'm looking forward to as well. Also i've created a short trailer on some of the films i will be reviewing. I don't want to sound desperate. If i have. sorry
I think people are interested in good entertainment. Most people don't want to watch a movie after which their heads hurt. Not saying people are not smart enough for 'substance' - but cinema should be a place where someone can - at least for a few hours - have fun and relax. Real life has enough 'substance'. Just my 3 cents. (inflation :P)
What? Not excited about the remakes of "Carrie" or "Evil Dead"? I'm also excited to see if Rob Zombie can actually do something different with "The Lords Of Salem". I am also looking forward to "The Conjuring". Love my horror films. I checked out "The Pact" because of your review and it was one of my favorite films of last year.
each film's he's done, and M. Night is just showing what a bad writter he is. We'll see what happens in Nolan, but he's never shown a sign that he can actually make a movie as bad as The Happening and The Last Airbender some of the worst movies of all in my opinion. I think if Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese can continue their hype and success, so can Nolan.
dude M.N. Shamalan has made like 3 and i could say 4 movies that have been well received by critics and box office audience... chris has made memento, insomnia, the prestige, inception, batman:dark knight trilogy...and i can say more to come...all of them well received by critics and box office audience so i dont think he is going the same route :)
I hope 2013 is great. But it will be difficult to top 2012. Last year was so great. I´m totally torn when it comes to the oscar nominees for example. All of them are really good. Today I just saw Silver Linings Playbook. Great too. I prefer Django and Les Mis, but it was great. And all of them so different
i've heard that Nicolas Winding Refn will be directing a TV series of Barbarella, to be written by the screenwriters of Casino Royale & Skyfall. My most anticipated are Place Beyond the Pines (out on my birthday, wooo!), Only God Forgives, Elysium, World's End and A Field in England (no release date :'( )
