HISTORY OF THIS PLACE :
ಇದು 16 ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿ ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಮೇಲಿನ ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ನಾನು ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆಯೇ? ಇನ್ನೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಅಲ್ಲ. ಮಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳು ಸ್ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಂದ್ಯ. ಮಳೆಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ದಿನಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆಯುವವರೆಗೆ ನೀವು ಪರ್ವತ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶಾಂತತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಮಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಳೆಯು ಹಸಿರಿನಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಕಣಿವೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೆರೆಯುವ ನಿತ್ಯಹರಿದ್ವರ್ಣ ಶೋಲಾ ಹುಲ್ಲುಗಾವಲುಗಳ ಅದ್ಭುತ ನೋಟಗಳನ್ನು ತರುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳ ಮಡಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ನವಿರಾದ ಜಲಪಾತಗಳು ಮಳೆಗೆ ಜೀವ ತುಂಬುತ್ತವೆ. ಧುಮ್ಮಿಕ್ಕುವ ತೊರೆಗಳು, ಉಸಿರುಕಟ್ಟುವ ಸೇತುವೆಗಳು, ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದ ಕತ್ತಲ ಸುರಂಗಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಜಿನಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಪರ್ವತ ಶಿಖರಗಳು ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಈ ಅತ್ಯದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಅತಿರೇಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದು ನೆನೆಯಲು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕರೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತವೆ.
ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗವು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಖಿನ್ನತೆಯ ಮೋಡ್‌ಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನಂತಹ ಹಾರ್ಡ್‌ಕೋರ್ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಪ್ರೇಮಿ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದ ಅವಕಾಶವೂ ಬಂದಿತು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ರೈಲ್ವೇ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಮಳೆಕಾಡಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಾದುಹೋಗುವ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಡುವಿನ ರೈಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಸ್ಟಾಡೋಮ್ ಕೋಚ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದೆ. ನಾನು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಬಾರಿ ರೈಲು ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಆದರೆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಘಾಟ್‌ಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಾದು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಚ್‌ನ ಹೊಸ್ತಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತು ಜಲಪಾತಗಳ ಸದ್ದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆನೆಯುವುದು ನನ್ನ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ರೈಲು ಕೋಚ್ ಪಾರದರ್ಶಕವಾಗಿರಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಾನು ಅನೇಕ ಬಾರಿ ಬಯಸಿದ್ದೆ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾನು ಈ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಅದ್ಭುತದ 180-ಡಿಗ್ರಿ ವಿಹಂಗಮ ನೋಟವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು.
It has been 16 years and I have hardly missed a visit to Western Ghats during each rainy season. Am I satisfied, considering my love for the Western Ghats? NOT quite yet. Rain and Western Ghats is a match made in heaven. You won’t be able to relate to the tranquility cocooned in the mountain ranges until you spend a few days in the middle of Western Ghats during the downpour. Rain brings with it the stunning views of evergreen shola grasslands that blend with the verdant valleys. The gentle waterfalls nestled in the folds of the hills come alive with the rain. Gushing streams, breathtaking bridges, endless dark tunnels and misty mountain peaks call out to nature lovers to come and soak in this stunning extravagance of Western Ghats.
Pandemic has put my travel into depression mode. But along came an opportunity that a hardcore Western Ghats lover like me would never miss. Indian Railways recently introduced Vistadome coaches on the train between Bangalore and Mangalore that passes through the dense rainforest. I have done train journeys on Western Ghats route numerous times before, but always passed through the ghats during the nighttime. My favorite place was to sit at the doorstep of the coach and soak in the sound of waterfalls in the calmness of night. Many times I had wished for the train coach to be transparent so I could have a 180-degree panoramic view of this natural wonder.
