I always tell people the same. if you were at least in decent shape, the physical parts not bad. bonus points if you played hockey, football, rugby etc youll be fine and your into the team aspect and being yelled at and being physical with others isnt something youve never experienced. the thing with the DI's is, theyre unrelenting agents of chaos. that constant pressure with everything can be rough to adjust. but by the end youve learned and grown a ton as a person. youll see your di's not as sadistic sociopaths, but some of the most impressive people youll ever know, . 14 hour days always yelling and running around constantly. for months. I can count on 1 hand the times I saw any DI at mcrd crack a smile. well actually thats not true. occasionally youll catch a sadistic grin as they find a new target and run over to tune them up. theres nothing there scarier that a DI with a crazy grin thats not yelling at you, but whispering in your ear

I was Platoon Pull-up Stud and Iron Mike in MCT. I almost made E3 in MVOC, but picked it up a short time later. As far as going to boot, you have 2 real options (to make it easy). You can either go in knowing the exact structure and timing of the entire run. (I also joined old as shit and was raised by either old dogs or base brats, so probably not fair) Or, you can go in knowing nothing and just blank out for the 3 months. Anything inbetween is hell.

@@blank_801 PT may be different in his unit than your unit. My unit was doing log runs mixed with Indian runs and stuff. Then on deployment, we did simulated operations where you ran the inner perimeter of the base, you catch a casualty and load him on a gourmet and ran a mile or so with that guy, and then a poker chip run where in order to complete it, you had to collect all the poker chips. It was brutal. Then the shamrock PTs. I wasn’t too bad at PT luckily. It was the hikes that were my enemy for the first few months in the fleet. I’m 5’6, one of the shortest in the company, probably battalion, with a 249, A-Bag with spare barrels and mortar gear hiking from the barracks to the MP ranges. But eventually I got real good, good enough to actually get away with smoking a cigarette while hiking in the rain. Pure hell is what P.I. is. It's true that some recruits flipped out and tried to run away. They were caught in the water trying to swim to Hilton Head. Another female that I knew in another platoon... she ran for the front gate twice and out ran the other Marines. Never made it thru the gate but she did graduate. She was the fastest runner these Marine males had ever seen for a female. Other males and females have jumped from second floor decks and up trying to die. We had a female that tried to cut her wrist. Our drill instructor went slam off on her. She just had a moment happening to her. She graduated also. No one really truly knows stress until you go to Marine Corps boot camp. I've never ever in my entire life regretted going.
