In this lesson I cover the most common problem I always find with new bass students. If I ask a student to play a scale or a bassline there's always this problem of holding a note down for the full duration and leading smoothly from one note to another. Often the solution can be found by simply drawing attention to the problem but sometimes some more technical issues need to be addressed. Just watch the lesson for more details...

With all respect and appreciation for this transparency, I browsed all the famous sites in this field and I could not find better than your channel and site to teach this musical instrument. Thank you, my dear, and I am honored to be one of the students of your channel and your beautiful site.

Hi Mark. As a beginner of 3 weeks I appreciate how slow you are going with your basic lessons. No-one else seems to have the patience that you do which is absolutely fundamental in me learning anything. Nice also not to have all the other time wasting memes and rubbish inserted in your lessons. Thanks from Perth West Aus.

nice less,,but if i may suggest,,for a slow leaner like me, it could be better if u bring the camera closer to the guiter so we or i can see more off ur finger movements and also hear ur voice at the same time thanks

Great lesson for a beginner playing bass like me, thanks. Like you said, it's a fundamental skill to be in control of note duration and not let poor technique dictate it.

Very good lesson on how to handle those unwanted string slides and noises, when you want to go to the next hand position. If people are seriously looking to improve their sound, then they MUST follow this advice.

Excellent lesson, probably one of the most important you can learn , because will affect the way you sound. If you don't do it righ , then you will be playing sounding bad , for the rest of your life. You get to get this right way of pressing strings for the right amount of time integrate in your muscle memory. You don't have to think even about this when playing. that's take time , practicing slowly until you get the muscle memory done. thanks a lot Mark to pint to this important issue.

I think I had/have this problem due to trying to sound fast. So this has been very helpful thanks, Mark. I guess speed isn't everything and will come with time. Also I would recommend your website to any bass player. It's loaded with great instruction and tools. Keep 'em coming please.

My practice plan for today: Combine this lesson with the cycle of 4ths/scales lesson to really get some bang for my buck.

Hello Mark, thanks for the lesson. I'm having trouble putting my second finger on the third fret and the fourth finger on the the fifth fret without moving my hand. Should I use my first finger on the third fret instead or move my hand?
