There's no better feeling of freedom than when you don't care what others think of you, your kit, your bike, your journeys or care about what they have or have done. This type of freedom sits far better on a motorcycle and provides happier memories.
haha, that's a Man thing.. Every Man needs a cave after a day at work - even if it looks just like a garage to the outside world (Men are from Mars - Women from Venus)
Another great insightful video with a very important message. I think another envy issue is, bike envy. I have had up to 7 motorcycles in my garage and am as happy now with 1. I used to think, if only I had a ……………., Fill in the blank, T7, 1250 GSA, Ducati Desert X, 890R, … I cannot even ride the bike I have to its limits. Sure, pretty much if you want to ride dual-sport type stuff you need a bike different than a moto GP bike. So be happy where you are and enjoy your ride.
mate your absolutely correct run your own race live your own life , i film my rides so my kids have a memory of what im doing when adventuring, like’s subscribers and shares dont matter the memories do, ride safe mate cheers
Again this Australian finds himself in total agreement with a stranger in Bulgaria! I don't 'do' social media, apart from here. But your calling out of consumerism, and the envy it runs on, as well as social media's role in this, is accurate and timely. Again, a 'voice of reason' amongst all the current madness. We need to be doing our trips for ourselves, not to take impressive pictures for the strangers on social media you refer to! Keeping it simple, and going your own way, sound advice to travellers of every type. Good job. I'm going for a ride, as I do most days. On my own, and where I want! Hopefully no 'roos today after a nasty one last week.
I wouldn’t call it envy, but I do follow a couple of sailors on RU-vid and sometimes wish that I was young again, to be doing what they are doing. Also of course I follow you and a couple of other motorcycle adventurers. Fortunately age has not yet limited my motorcycling ambitions. What I get from all this is, when things are not going my way (example bad weather or breakdowns ), I ask myself “ what would …..insert name……do?” and this enables me to deal with whatever is the inconvenience with more confidence or stoicism.
I agree on everything, but most of the times if you're not into some social media, you don't exist. Since some months ago, I was also thinking about quitting the rest of the social media and keeping only RU-vid as content creator. Brilliant man. Cheers 🍻
I always enjoy what you have to say, but envy is one thing i just don't understand. if i really wanted or needed 'more' i'd find a way to get it, if i see someone with a better bike/gear/accommodation or whatever i just think good, on 'em, and i enjoy seeing m8's and family being successful, it doesn't affect me. i don't have any social media accounts and i agree that the constant barrage can sway opinions for some, and make them phone zombies, but IMHO the best thing you can have is time for yourself, coz money comes and goes, and anyway If i plan a trip i generally stay at places i get value, like backpackers, youth hostels, cheap pensions, and you tend to meet a more interesting & grounded traveller at these places anyway. getting a good deal and doing it on the 'cheap;' can also give you pleasue in beating the system, and also better memories, as It's what's inside that counts. GL
and you tend to meet a more interesting & grounded traveller at these places. 100% - I once check out of a posh hotel in Egypt that had been booked and paid for by someone who tried to scam me - Why. Because breakast was French, served by a waiter in a tuxedo and the only other two ppl there were a couple from Manchester (who didn't talk to each other!)
Very true. It works from the other side of the screen , too. People who are unlucky enough to be born into difficult circumstances did not know there was a different world until travellers arrived. They were met with curiosity, and Openness. Now even the poorest of people have a mobile phone, and can see the rest of the world. Now curiosity is replaced with envy of a life most can never have. They will never own a bike or be able to travel or even leave their home. Travellers are now met differently. The world is different now. We are very lucky. Travelling is different now at times. But fortunately most of the world is good. Ride safe and happy travels 👍
when i was a kid in the 60's we were poor but didn't know it coz everyone else on our estate was the same. i started my wanderlust by getting on my bike wondering what was around the corner. i now travel by motorbike but think you only truly know when going there yourself. GL
'Now curiosity is replaced with envy of a life most can never have' - only because the world is arranged that way by rich western selfish pricks far too much onto materialism - there is enough resources in the world to give everyone a good standard of life.....................
As I venture out to create my own channel, I appreciate the items you discussed in this video. I've found myself even more on my phone as I try to get more visible, and envying other channels.
And this is why this channel is awsome and way better than others : regular injection of good old common sense mixed with rationnality and strong logic. Thank you !
Keeping up with the Jones is real in many aspects of our lives. What kind of car they have, house, clothes, boat, and even motorcycle and gear. Very good advice!
Very nice views and thoughts. I think its good influencers talk about important topics like this 👍 It's easy to get carried away looking at all sorts of nice youtube and insta content, but happiness i think comes from inside not from envy, expensive objects or travel.
I have similar ideas since long time and I've never been afraid to express them. I don't remember how many times I've been called "old" or "retrograde" 🙂 Sadly many people are ignorant to common sense.
Thank you. Great movie, you raised a very important topic! I confirm that conscious choice is very important in life. Then there is no chance for us to choose envy. The fireplace in the background does a job :)
Very well put, I had to put a trip on the back burner for now but decided on a smaller trip as realistically, I just could not afford it. Someday will do just not at this time.
I envy one thing...Your stove 😅 So cool, never so one like that in France ! The tubing should be nice to gain few degrees during winter work in the garage ! 👍
You are absolutely right... FB is for many people a platform to be great, because they are a small number in real life and want to be admired. I only use FB in technical groups for technical tips for me or I can give tips. No food photos, no family fotos.... the same is YT for me. Only for my hobby ... technical films, traveling films sometimes political documentary films or historical films. I use very seldom Whatsapp or Signal (only family). Mostly I use YT in stead of TV. I thank all the people who make good films on YT. It s a lot of work to edit a film.
The Carnivore Diet is something that saved my life! I went from 155kg to 99kg, from 170 over 110 blood pressure to 120 over 70 in 3 months, the weight took about a year. Without health I can't ride my bike. What's best about the diet is you can only have One Meal A Day(OMAD) and never be hungry (Hungary, Hahaha) Pavlin! Thank you.
Excellent philosophical yet real issues a lot of people face. I think us most of us old farts are immune to it. But, those young ones who were digesting Social Media from a baby fall into all the points you made. I made a conscious decision to not go out of my way to photograph or video my trips but to savor them. That said, I don't have a RU-vid channel either or Instagram, Facebook, the most toxic, Twitter 🤮or any of the other toxic cesspool accounts. I'm glad you brought this up. I've seen riders with their bikes covered in cameras mounted around their bikes and a drone case on the back. I can imagine all the things you have to keep track of, consider or plan for. That is not what I call stress free adventuring. I don't even listen to music while I ride as there is enough sh!t to concentrate on with inattentive drivers on the road and what is on the road. Planning trips around cost sucks but necessary, I have cancelled trips due to that very reason, plus time. Your approach to Social Media is smart. Thank you Pavlin.
Social networks are nor social, nor networks. As you said, they are not our friends, they are our enemies. I left FB maybe 5-6 years ago and never regret it. I don't feel like going back there to live others lives. I have my own. Real.
Weeeeellllllll, now that you mention it, I'm just a little bit in debt after following your channel and other ADV themed channels. You're right, I just need to go out and ride.
When I start thinking about that, if a person does travel (or anything) his/her own way, it is more likely that it will leave a mark in the other peoples minds and eyes!! Rather than doing everything the same was as others, and not being truly happy in the process....
@@motorcycleadventures And what is the opening of the mind? What does that mean? How's that reflected on the "owner" of the opened mind? One theoretical example: You go some place and you meet people on the way. You interact with them. Some stereotypes might get shattered. Next time you meet this type of people you have a different attitude towards them and react differently. Are you not changed? Or maybe you get in trouble and your bike breaks down. People, complete strangers, take you into their homes and help you fix your bike. Will that not change you, make you have more empathy and react more openly towards strangers. All our lives we should battle against ourselves in a quest to become better. This is change.
Correct as usual. Isn't South America going to be hot in December, I would have thought spring or autumn would be better time to travel? Now that you have cancelled Africa you could bring South America forward.
When are you going to make it to the USA? I live in western Massachusetts and It's about the size of Europe. This is the gateway to New England. You have a place to stay. Just reach out! See you in the future!
Pavlin 🎉 i really like your Channel and this kind of vidéo. Very wise and realistic. By the way i love your english 😂 perfect i'm jealous i want to speak english like that.
Remember, for allmost all people in the world your local area is very far away and an exotic place. You don't have to travel far to make an interesting travel for others to watch.
When I watched this video I was scared!😮 I saw on the wall behind you separate parts of your first Tenere 660....😢 Well, did you really take it apart for souvenirs and decorative elements? Please, Pavlin, tell me that this is not true!
@@motorcycleadventures It's sad of course. It was a great motorcycle. A whole legend. Its reliability and durability are impressive! In this case, let it bring only joy to the new owner and serve him faithfully!
Well. Almost 2 min of testing, wish I had that much patience. And I have no envy, Except of people who buy a low km G800gs for $7-8000au that has never been dropped or even seen the bush. Specially if it's that godly yellow or a nice red. 😡
🤣🤣🤣 Ye, ye..... 4 U, it's easy to say : "...DON'T be envy..." - obviously u KNOW, that NO one, will ever repeat your feat with Magadan ☝☝🤣- However, I strongly believe, not many envy you for that trip .....
Great advice. Let your bank account live to ride another day! Have been riding MX and trails on YZ's at 65 have a used xr650L for camping in northern Minnesota to. Michigans great lakes. Your shop looks epic! Like a dirtbike cafe! Safe travels!
Pavlin, this is absolutely spot on ! Having been into bikes since an early age, raced from my early teens, done extremely stupid but exciting things on motorcycles (and still do 🤗). I have experienced this many times in my years and still the fire is poked when I see some social media clips. But years ago there wasn't someone with a smartphone ready to capture the moment, even a decent camera was a scarce thing. The races would have a dedicated photographer and you hoped he captured you so you could buy a photo from him, a colour or black and white piece of paper that held a memory on outside of your head. I see things now on social media getting likes or going viral, and often it was just "normal" stuff we did clowning around on our bikes decades ago. Tricks, stunts, advice. But we only have the memories on a pic or in our minds to reflect on as we watch thousands of people post replies in awe, and the hosts often even monetize from it. It's a different world as they say. Often these memories will be spoken when us oldies get together and we have a laugh as we reminisce. It's nice to have the tech these days to try and share a moment on our rides or adventure, but in reality nobody can truly understand the feelings that a particular photo or video means to you. As often quoted "nobody cares about your social media", sounds harsh, but there is truth in it. Enjoy what you do, but do it for yourself and your own reason without the worry and expense of pleasing other people that are craving digital affirmation from social media 🤙
Well said father Pav. Get away from electronic entertainment and get out there and ride, that's what keeps us young and alive no matter how old you are. Watching TV and social media sites too often just dulls the brain and turns you into a vegetable. That's what they are designed to do. If you get bored just do what the man said and create something, anything, even riding down a road you have never been down before instead of using the same old pathways that we always use is creating new experiences for your mind to digest and new memories for the future. It's only when you are out there alone that you will find your true self. Keep up the good work Father Pavlin. 👍
I guess I’m living vicariously through others. While I ride often, locally, I enjoy watching others, like you, in other parts of the world I know I’ll never get to. Thank you for your videos and encouragement.
It's winter where I live and there's snow everywhere. I won't be able to ride for a few more months. However, I too enjoy watching others, especially and mainly at this time of year when I can't ride.
Thanks for your videos. I enjoy your topics, real world and from the heart. I am planning a trip to Iceland in the coming summer. I’m shipping my Honda Transalp from America. At the moment I’m setting up my bike with crash bars, skid plate and panniers. My plan is to explore for 3 to 4 weeks then take the ferry to the Farro Islands. From there I’m taking the Ferry to Norway and then going to the North Cape. After that I’m heading to mainland Europe and eventually to Germany. This trip is a life long journey for me. My plan is to camp most of the time and perhaps a cheap hotel. I like your common sense videos and for me they make good points. Bye for now and again thanks for your advice. Chris
So true indeed. Most of the adventure riders just try to immitate their fav "adv heroes" Like, al of them must go to this and that route, just to prove that they are real adventurers. Thats why Transfagarashan is overcrowded. Thats why every 2-3 years theres millions of vids of the "new best adv bike". So much technical info, so little adventure. Like, they plan their routes on highways and 5star hotels. Man, they get 25-30K bikes, and never get out of rist class roads. Wheres the adventure, wheres the unknown. Everything is well prepared, there are no surprises. I am not saying dont have a plan, but cmon. The only thing missing is autopilot - just sit back and relax.
Well and perfectly said! Your comments reminded me of the book 'Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance'. hmmm, thanks for prompting that memory, going to fish it out of my bookshelf now (I know it's hiding somewhere) and re-read... and by the way, sorry to hear you had to change plans on your Africa trip, however, do reach out if you require some local advice & support from South Africa. Would be happy to help, greetings from bike to bike 🤠🏍
no TV for me, either! My motorcycle knowledge was obtained at the University of RU-vid I watch for education/learning. When a motorcycle traveler was debating camping vs. motels, I said, "The cheapest way is to stay home ... and watch other people's travel videos!"
Good attitude , I use utube .. to look for information ...and a few riders that I believe I could learn something ... Alain & Yellow ps I ride a Can Am ryker but during winter we cannot ride ...
another great video Pavlin👍👍😍 but the lesson is not just for motorcycling, but for the life, that's why I don't even have a smartphone, I hate it, it takes away your freedom, freedom is motorcycling😍👍👍👍
Wise words Pavlin. I like to travel by motorcycle to take in the culture, enjoy the ride and photograph it, but just for my pleasure and not others or to make money. Thinking about next trip .....
To try and gain satisfaction by competing with others in a material way or by promoting an illusion of your life through social media is like chasing the wind......just get out the door and do something worthwhile! A thought provoking video Pavlin. Cheers.
Hi Pavlin, yet another great video. Personally I don't do any social media especially Facebook. I can't afford to do any big trips and see the world although I have done some big tours around Europe in the past. I only watch RU-vid and ride my bike when I get the opportunity. It might sound daft but I like having my bike as much as riding it. Keep the videos coming.
Omg i am the same Pavlin, I create routes, tours and watch RU-vid. Currently working out finances for a trip to Croatia & Italy from UK. Very good advice, dont be jealous but do learn from those that do, before you know it you become a dooer 👍
Have you ridden Australia? I guess it would cost a lot of $ and time. And no one brings their bikes or takes them back. Our stupid bike laws. Maybe one day my friend we will see you here and hear your take on your trip.✌
