Walt Disney made history in 1937 by doing something no one had ever done before in the middle of a Los Angeles street when he needed a big win. He didn't know he was accidentally creating Disneyland in the process.
Did you know that the world's most famous theme park, Disneyland, actually started in the middle of a street? Learn about the origins of this iconic park and its ties to the Carthay Circle area. This video is a must-watch for any Disney fan!

i remember going to the Carthay Circle in the 60s with my family. The embroidery on the theatre's red velvet curtain made me think that it must have been where Around The World In 80 Days premiered.

Such an amazing little hidden story! Definitely a precursor to the park we know and love! Love that Disney had to borrow the icecapades costumes in the early years to have characters appear!

Very cool video. I've seen a lot of Disney history and this is the first I've seen of the temporary Dwarf house. I tried to find the same views on Google Maps, and couldn't quite do it, although I found the area and the Carthay Circle Park. Keep up the good work!

My Mom was 11 years old and she visited his land. She said it was magical, especially since there was no Disneyland, she loved it. I think it’s why Fantasyland and especially the Storybook canals was her favorite ride. Thank you so much for sharing this 💖

Your comment at 8:58 "To just do what every creative wants - to just make another project that you're in love with making." That earned a follow from me. Well said. I think this is something that a lot of people don't understand about Walt, or creatives in general. He was not motivated by money, he was motivated by creativity. Money was just something he needed to keep on creating.

I swear your videos are the most amazing disneyland docu/vlogs every single time. Each vid I feel like you plan the selfie shots to be timed with monorails, trains, boats, parades, marching bands etc... after seeing it so many times I think its just the disney magic working 100% (makes the parks feel soooo lively even on a screen)

This is really interesting. I had thought the train tour for So dear to my heart, and Dislandia at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in 1952, he had planned was the first attempt at something real life. Fascinating! That attempt was so primitive with models he built himself, and failed as well, it's strange he actually had this experience before that....what people/company built that? I bet it was something external to Disney?

I wonder if Disney Dan knows about the 1937 promo seven dwarfs costumes? I once called 20th century fox studios to ask about location of Carthay Circle theater. The girl who answered the phone reminisced with me about it. I only went there once. It was the roadshow revival location of GWTW in the 1960s. After that it disappeared. Great vlog and info, film Brickey. Thanks.
