I have fire extinguishers all through my travel trailer besides the one that comes with it. I even have ones still in their boxes that I haven’t placed yet.
Check out the Element fire extinguisher, 50 secs use time, doesn't expire, no residue, and you can breathe the fumes...looks like a flare. I keep one on the wall in the bedroom of my rv, in my truck, barn, basement. Etc..
PASS: Pull the pin, Aim (yes at the base of the fire) Squeeze the handle (top will go down- not what most people expect) Sweep back and forth. The saying is, 1 second per pound and most of the extinguishing element will be exhausted in the first second so don’t get caught up in the excitement and mistakenly shoot then aim.
They must have listened to you because they installed one under my hood of the F550 and it is wrapped in a heat resistant material. They installed it toward the front of the engine bay. We've had then installed in our rig for around 1.5 years and we live in Florida. It has been exposed to 100+ heat and we have not had an issue as of yet.
your tool box can get over 200deg F. the exhaust of your truck gets well over 300degF. as to a fire ex. buy the gas unit. it is rated as a,b, c. if you buy the five pound unit. and best of all no clean up. the dry powder stuff gets everywhere. and have two in your truck. three in your rv. get them serviced regularly. not every so often.
How to check a fire extinguisher make sure the gauge is in the green, turn upside down and tap on the bottom so the powder un compacts and gets light and fluffy again, check the nozzle or the hose to make sure there’s no debris blocking the discharge and you’re good to go do every six months and you’ll be fine !
Saw this video right after the latest 'RVing with Andrew Steele' video where their Newell unfortunately went up in flames at a rest area on a trip...sad to see...but this is a great reminder. He said the same.
Fire extinguishers and Parachutes two things best not to buy cheap and better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it. I have 5 lb serviceable extinguishers in the house (3), RV(2) and truck(1).
Hey JD was wondering how to get in touch with you about one of your older videos about the low profile tool box for 5th wheel towing. I've been searching but no luck. Wanted to know if you had any other suggestions. Thanks.
