It's Cottonwood season in the lower mainland British Columbia Canada, here they are just giant weeds, meaning the roots are spread just under the surface of the topsoil. I hope the rooting is better there for less erosion.

Dig deep ponds on high ground to bank water running off neighbors' land and attract birds. Fence out cattle.
