Don't think the M2 is overrated, maybe over-hyped. Yes the GTR is a bit old and boring now. Seems a bit predictable with people just trying to get big power out of them. Also they are not exactly 'cheap'. Would rather have a RS3.

Same as me. The 911 is in the most overrated list for me since people act like they're flawless which is obviously far from true. I used to hate them because all Porsches look boring in most colours, they're not that comfy, they're always under-equipped (because spec costs so much), 911s particularly are a bit common, they're not especially comfy, etc. All that said, I own a 981 Cayman S. It's a hugely flawed car in many ways, but it sounds incredible, is plenty fast enough and the thing that amazed me- it's genuinely cheap to run. Not just for a sports car, it's plain cheap, except perhaps the tyres. Also gets far more attention than I ever imagined, but that's the colour thing, I'd never touch a grey one.

@@sneaky_krait7271 I feel like it gets named as the sports car to beat a lot- which is probably fair, but that gets turned into the idea that it's perfect, which it very much isn't, it's just less flawed than its rivals. I do disagree on the sound though, no 911 sounds bad. Sure the new ones are less good than the old 3.4 NA engines, but we're down to an 8/10 from the old 10/10, it doesn't actually sound bad- like a new Civic Type R for example...

When you say nothing at a similar price point offers anything like the M2 does, what exactly do you mean? It's a sports car for around £50k...as are the Cayman, TTRS, F-Type, A110, A45S (or CLA45S), RS3, Elise, etc. What's the M2's USP? What does it do that no other car offers? I don't hate the M2, I'm just questioning your logic. Personally I didn't need rear seats so I bought a 981 Cayman S, the M2 didn't make it to my shortlist due to sound, reliability, running costs, etc.

If the Taycan is over hyped, then all EVs are.... I do get how emotion isnt as huge in EVs, but you have to appreciate them in different ways. In saying that, I do think I would get a 911 over a Taycan any day, mostly due to the amazing sound.

I have the privilege of currently driving a 911 (991.1 NA) as a daily driver, for the last 4 months. It is a beautiful car and incredible in every way. It really is incredible as a daily. Average consumption is around 31 mpg (quick driving 24mpg / long runs with a considered approach 37mpg (yes 37mpg)). However I have a Taycan on order and this week I drove over 300 miles in one day. Used Ionity charger to top up - 15 minutes and full again. To drive though its handling and the excitement factor really is there. It drives in anyways like the 911 ( but feels little heavier under breaking. But it has so much confidence in corners it is incredible. Also the acceleration is just immense! In every case it feels more urgent than the 911. But, there is one key advantage on long drives. It is just effortless and quiet and so relaxing to drive. You do not miss the noise as there is almost nothing wind or tyre noise. You arrive so relaxed. But when you want to have fun it is there in an instant! Nearly every Taycan review is similar but the real truth is that car is incredible. Best advice is to try one and I really expect people to be amazed. The 911 is an incredible car and I would still say as an ownership experience it is the best car I have ever owned!

If you really like cars you'll always choose a petrol car than an EV. As Tony said, if you have to choose between the Taycan and the 992 Turbo S and you really like cars, without doubt you must take the 992 Turbo S. Even though that, if you want to begin the transition to the EV world, Taycan its the way to go. First of all because its a Porsche, and second because its conceived as a Sports EV car. It has the Porsche heritage.

@@martinortiz575 The 992 Turbo S is another astonishing car. What is is capable of, is in reality just ‘wizardry’ and it does sound very good indeed for a turbo car. Porsche just build and engineer the best high quality cars there are. Sam and Tony were right about Aston Martin, they loose too much money. Some are beautiful but so expensive. The 2006-2012 DBS is totally the sweet spot, unless you can afford a DB5! But for me the Taycan looks like being the best daily driver going for the change to into the EV world.

Tony saying that the GT-R and Aventador SVJ aren't fast tells us that perspective went out of the window many moons ago! You can't push a Golf R to its limits on basically any UK road...if that isn't fast what is? Those cars are literally twice as fast in a straight line as a Golf R. The SVJ has the ring record for a production car and the standard GT-R beat a 488, Enzo, 997 GT2RS...it's 35 seconds faster than an M4. Heck, the Nismo beat the 600LT - I'm betting Tony wouldn't call that slow. I actually kinda agree that both are overhyped, but slow they are not! I've not driven an SVJ but the GT-R is definitely not that special and the running costs are INSANE.

Great broadcasting skills, too slow for me, took far too long to find out which cars are overrated, and of course wildly controversial overrated cars! Including an M2 (yes I have one) - and comparing it with second hand cars for the price, never a useful thing to do, and with a lot of 4 cylinder rivals. And blaming the DBS because it has depreciated - that's all about how many Aston make, doesn't make it a less good car. And accusing the ZF8 of being a soft gearbox - maybe the DBSS version strengthened to cope with the massive torque may not be the sharpest implementation of it, but it is a great gearbox, so far as I am concerned has more advantages than disadvantages compared with a Ferrari double clutch, with the Aston's control interface being the best on any paddle shift (backwards and forwards between Drive and Sequential without taking your hands off the wheel).

Agree on the GTR. Majority of the GTR people are the same as Mk 4 Supra people, kids that have never driven the cars and get their opinions from the fast and furious franchise.

Used to work at an Audi dealership and the RS models do have the looks and interior sorted. But to drive...no they aren't special, just a faster version in a straight line. I never got why people needed more then a V6 TDI competition in an A6. All RS models of about 5 years ago were just straight line cars. In term of the M2, I think they hit the ball wrong at BMW in terms of line up. I own a regular M2, I don't see why you would want or need a comp. The regular one is already heavy en skids fine, they just need a GTS version to make it more track focused and lightweight. it's just 100kg-200kg to heavy, it weighs about the same as an M4. Things they needed to put available as option: more colours, better seats, big brake kit (non cereamic). As I understand they needed so put the S55 in the comp for emissions, put it added even more weight and a sportcars need to be lightweight. An M2 comp auto weighs more then a base M4...makes no sense.

I have the rodecaster Sam, what software do you record onto on you computer? I’d set the rodecaster faders to the middle and then adjust the gain on the mics to not peak (within the green markers). Then make sure your limiters are on on the rodecaster to help make sure you don’t “peak” if you laugh loudly or something and then you should be able to adjust the levels within the software. I’d also recommend hitting the record on the rodecaster at the same time you hit record on your computer software so you have a backup recording if you make a mistake on one of the recordings. Great Podcast guys. my list of over rated cars is: 1) Every single new generation Mclaren ever made.(they all suffer from the same problem as the Tycan) 2) New gen Supra, all the hype before it was launched and then we get a BMW. think the Toyota engineers had an amazing idea of bringing the Supra back and then went out for dinner forgot about it and then needed a quick fix 2 days before they launched the car. 3) definitely agree with the GTR, it was a super car killer but not anymore. wouldn't even buy a second hand one unless i was going to completely re-build the engine because you know the previous owner drove it until the pistons popped put the bonnet. interior is shoddy and 110% not worth the money new.

Tony has gone mad :D I experienced a Taycan Turbo S TODAY and it was amazing! I also experienced the top range Model S and hated it... but the Taycan is such an amazing car and honestly got me more excited than a new 911 4S. I got to say tho it is very expensive and not the best car in the world but as far as EV´s go it is worlds ahead.

Great episode! I agree with all of your choices Lambo, AM, GTR, M2 RS6. I agree but I don't know which is worse.... the car or the owners You can also add: C8 Corvette Toyota Supra All Infinity vehicles Most M, RS and AMG cars have turned into large, heavy, dull and soulless vehicles. Most cross over SUV's that are being sold as being "sporty"

M2 Comp?, at list price definitely overrated, but shop around and I have seen these pre-reg / 0 miles for under £43,000.......... 400+Bhp rear wheel drive which you can use as a daily and a big step up from a Golf R, it makes a lot of sense!

As much as I'm respected both of you. You calling an Aventador SVJ "A piece of sh*t" + "not that fast" is way off. I personally own a SVJ coupe and I think its wonderful. I admit below 80 mph its not great, but above 80, its wonderful. Its fast. Its faster than my 675LT and 488 on the 1/4 mile according to my Dragy app (which is used to measure performance data of your car). Plus, the issues that Tony was bragging about was essentially the drivers fault. The SVJ or in effect any Aventador aren't a car you take on road trips.

I agree with all but the SVJ. It's a supercar that Is meant to look good, sound good and be dramatic which the SVJ does better than any other supercar it's not meant to be practical or economical it's a V12 loud shouty Lambo think its kinda meant to be impractical and bad on fuel. I haven't driven any of these cars but from watching reviews I agree that it's not very fast, the gear box is old. But theres no car I'd rather have haha. PS dream car garage would be an SVJ, GT3RS and golf R. Love the podcast guys 👍 The Tycan part was bang on Tony is spot on 👍

On the Taycan content: the only Porsche that you'll be able to fill petrol in 5-10 years, will be the 911. Even in the 911 there will be hybrid options. The Taycan is the start of a new Porsche era for the other models...

DBS, I think is a car people lust after but then would never actually buy. Never seen the point of SVJ, we all know the reason to buy & not to buy so just buy a 'normal' roadster and cruise around at 20mph. I actually preferred the rs6 before it became an 'Instagram' car when it was subtle and anonymous. Taycan not a 'proper' Porsche but neither is a diesel cayenne and is still the one to go for if you can. M2 is just a bloody good car I think but at that price point there are lots of amazing cars that get overlooked. Gtr I just think its dated now as other cars have caught up but still an eye catching car when one drives past.

M2 Comp i definitely agree with, i'm fed up of hearing about it or seeing them on RU-vid. I'm sure they drive amazing but i just don't get the hype in all honesty. I knew the GTR would be included too, i think all the fan boys ruin that 😂 but think while it was a giant killer when it was first released it isn't as much now but the hype remains. Both great driving cars but soooo much hype around them which i just don't get 😂 Keep up the great work Sam & Tony 👍

It does just seem recently that Sam is going out of his way to disagree with the consensus on cars. I think it's important to have your own opinion, but going out of your way to have your own opinion doesn't come across as that genuine.

The reason market got well and cars even came up, had a lot to do with the massive ammounts of wealth transfers from covid deaths. This has been one of the biggest wealth transfers we've seen, probably, since WWII. Edit: And working from home. If their companies changed permanently their stance on working from home + no holidays gave the opportunity to get the car they wanted

I am 30. And I find myself lusting after cars from 2000-2015. Maybe I will change my mind about 2020 cars in 2035. I love Aston and Lambo. But I agree the DBS seems like a let down and the SVJ seems a bit odd for some reason (maybe because it sounds different). I would mostly have slighter older versions of cars.

I think you are adjusting the audio playback levels to your headphones, but you also need to adjust the gain of the microphones so they are balance in the recording. Hope this makes sense!

44:46 exactly sam ..im a huge fan of Aventador..and im fully aware of all those things you said .. I'll still buy one if im in a position where i can afford ...but one thing that I'll agree with is that the SVJ's are overrated..for me the SV is the best iteration of Aventador .. Aventador is the definition of Lamborghini...its uncomfortable,not practical etc but the drama and feel just out of the world where no 720 or Pista comes closer to it ..

agree with most of them especially the rs6 as this multipurpose car which is not doing that well any of them purposes exactly where i would put the panamera and yes all those overpowered suvs, bless chriss harris and his quick car review :D im a fan of classic Gwagons but i didnt get the hype of the amgs with the lambo style bodykits and the new defender is way more cooler than the new shape G, another whole class would be the hot hatches, but yes i have to agree since their green hell battles they are forcing other manufacturers to make better cars, oh yess and 911s because so few people can drive them proper fast but everyone wants one

Remember, wealthy middle class human beings in big cities in 2020 also pay 4 figures for smartphones, queue for overpriced bad coffee, and dictate their ideal of beauty on instagram, while being packed in flat shared with other dreamers. Dreamland is not rational, it is impossible to explain hype with rational arguments. Objective vs subjective looks like an impossible fight in this environment.
