Most Popular Games on Steam 2012 - 2019 

It split the player base. I know folks on both sides about which one is better.

I agree, I loved TF2 when I played it. It was probably my favorite f2p game. I gladly bought hats to support devs. I just wish the devs cared more to support the players. There's a good reason why Tf2 stayed at 50K concurrent--when it should have been growing steadily. It could've became the #1. Instead, they'd rather just milk a cash cow. Oh well.

@@WhamBamTySam in fairness from valves point-of-view TF2 generates a modest but steady profit year and you're out with only a few updates. It does what they needed to do and they can have their developers working on new games. No matter what they do to it it's still going to be a 12 year old game and will not have the impact of a new release, so they've chosen to spend their resources elsewhere. but you are entirely correct it would be great fun to see a big new update

Heck, they could capitalize on Fortnite's decline RIGHT NOW. A lot of people have played and quit TF2. A major update could bring them back. But, they'd rather just make new games. Keep TF2 the same since it's making good money as/is--even if it's not the best product they could have. Even if it's preventing growth of the player base. They can chill as one of the most consistently played ftp games on steam. Even though I absolutely loved TF2, I got happy each time another game passed it on the chart. It felt like a mini-lesson that they're resting on their laurels. :p

TF2 is keeping top 10 for 12 years because it became free in 2012 so everyone could buy it even if they are old

The Community Servers with a lot of diferent game modes and the Casual Part make this game still alive, even with less and less updates. Also the game is really Fun, any time you can open the game and play match and haver a good time.

Not really. TF2's all time peak not even close to Dota 2, CS:GO, or PUBG. But PUBG has fallen quickly. CS:GO is most stable since release in 2012, and now it's 1st on Steam. Look at steamcharts.

The game brought new ways to get more money on microtransactions, the trading sistem and a lot more. Tf2 in 2009/2010 was one of the most if not the most game played on that time. You're comparing all time data, comparing 2011 to 2018 is a big no no in terms of analyzing data. You need to watch in real time at that time of the year to see what's the top 1 on that time, like crossfire, the game that had more than 10 million players playing at the same time, this does not mean that crossfire is more popular than even fortnite. The data that we got on fortnite was in the middle of 2019 and the data of crossfire is from late 2019, if we compare both, we get misunderstood informations. I hope that this "little" commentary helps you out on analyzing data.

And the thing about PUBG is that it's unique in a sense that there's no other BR game this thrilling or realistic. It will never even get close to it's past glory, but it's a game that the original players will stick with for a long time.
