Slippery jack or sticky bun can be collected in pine forests all around the world from Europe to New Zealand. I used to collect mushrooms when I was a kid with my parents in Ukraine. I continued when I lived in Poland, and now I collect and cook them in New Zealand.

I picked a bucket of slippery jack last month in North Waikato, they are good but are very hard to keep.

Wonderful video! I wonder, how long do you cook the slippery jacks for? Looks like high heat for a good 10 minutes to cook those down dry?

How did you learn to distinguish wild mushrooms?

I grew up in the country where mushroom harvest is very popular. I can distinguish only few species. I never pick up mushrooms that I can't identify!! If you don't know how to distinguish them please don't collect them, they could be poisonous and can cause very serious intoxication!
