In this video, you'll see the most popular songs throughout each month in the 90s. The tunes selected for this video are the ones that reached #1 or at least ranked higher in more countries than other hits in the same month, but it's not very accurate since many of them were number one for different periods, and I didn't want to repeat any song- Top Culture

most people don't consider the 90s their favorite decade music-wise, but what I loved about the 90s was how many different genres there were. I miss that.
@helicoptersrkool

Also, there were so many memorable 1 hit wonder that we prob appreciate more today because people could actually sing, even if some were annoying at the time. It's almost impossible to hear a new mainstream song without that awful robotic autotune. The soul has completely been removed from music, that being the human voice. I stopped following modern mainstream music because of this. I couldn't name you 5 chart songs from the past 6 years.

I think many people consider the 90's as the best decade in the history of pop music. Digital era ruined the music industry. As time goes by, we have much less talented artists in the mainstream. Ariana Grande is one of a few artists of this generation who is actually talented. The rest is meh, especially since many TikTokers now have a "singing" career.
@starrynight1657

@@whitepaper5241 If you were a teen maybe. But most others probably consider earlier pop to have much more variety and melody. Most tend to think of the 90s as rock or dance orientated. I'd say the dance was better but critics inevitably talked up the rock.

All I can say is, I was born in 78, and I would have to say it was the 90's that I felt was MY music. Music that I and my generation had a direct impact in making it big, and I am so proud of myself for loving Mariah Carey the second she got on the scene. Because of this, Mariah Carey is my favorite singer and I own more albums of hers than anyone else. And mind you, I grew up on country and heavy metal..... Love those genres too, but Mariah Carey will always have a special place in my heart. Fantasy is my favorite she's done.

You definitely need to react to Seal songs... "Kiss from a Rose", "Don't Cry", "Prayer for the Dying", "Dream in Metaphors", "Killer", "Crazy", "Human Beings", "When a Man is Wrong", "Still Love Remains", etc., etc.. He doesn't have a lot of albums, but his stuff was of supreme quality in the 90's and early 2000's and had some good depth. One of my favorite soul/pop artists of all time.

The very first time I heard “Macarena” was at my cousin’s quinceañera down in Mexico. I noticed everyone got up, got in formation, and started doing the same move in unison. I was perplexed until my aunt told me it was a popular song and dance that went with it. A few months later I heard it on mainstream US radio and the rest is history.

They're not so much missing, as not relevant. This isn't every number one (a weekly chart) of the 90's, it's the most popular each month - so a song that was number 2 in the charts every week for a month could beat out every fleeting number one over that time.

MJ only dominated in the male category. In reality, the vocal trinity dominated the 90s. And MJ didn't dominate at all in the 2000s

@ 8:27 that song DOMINATED the UK charts in the 90s. People got sick of it eventually 😂

This must be the US charts? It's funny it is missing so many great songs though. But like the 80s the 90s had great depth of music.

Some of the songs were real events in the 1990s (Candle in the Wind 97 was performed by Elton at Princess Diana's funeral, and it was a world-wide sensation - he originally wrote that for Marilyn Monroe), others were ultra-popular songs from movies (Everything I Do by Bryan Adams, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, Iris by Goo Goo Dolls...) and were world-wide hits.

Can you do a Canada-themed week? Bryan, Alanis, Sarah, Celine, Joni, Tragically Hip, it just goes on and on. Shania!

I would love to see that. 54-40 would be amazing. And bands too, like Arcade Fire. Broken Social Scene. Cowboy Junkies (especially these ones, Jay!). Blue Rodeo. Triumph. Loverboy. The Odds. Rush. Spirit of the West! Etc, etc, etc, etc. It means more Corey Hart, too, who has a huge catalog for you, JoVaughn! (To that end, you could do a British Invasion week too, a Europe Week, an Asia Week, an Australia Week, so on, so on.)

Wasn't expecting the 90s to be my least favorite list so far. Watching the 70s and 80s lists, I'm like, "Damn, there are so many good songs." I watch the 90s list and I'm like, "Damn, this list is missing so many good songs."

Hey Jay, I'd love to see you react to some of Michael Jacksons lesser known tracks. First one would be "Morphine" followed by "2000 Watts" and "This Time Around" featuring Biggie Smalls. I think you'd be blown away by any of these tracks. Love ya Jay ✌🇦🇺🙃

Culture Beat - 'Mr. Vain' Sep. 1993 - is a German group and a hole bunch of music with that sound - like 'Mr. Vain' came out in Scandinavia at that time and since 2011 - we have had a 12 hrs Festival - called 'Love the 90s' - and runs in 8-9 towns in Denmark and some in Sweden as well (not at the same time lol - but during May - Sep.) - every year. This year the line up are: Coolio, Bomfunk MC's, BLUE, DJ Encore, Cartoons, Blümchen, HEROES feat. Snap!, Dr. Alban and Haddaway - Presented by Chief 1, 5ive, Alice Deejay - Judith Pronk, Crystal Waters, Solid Base, East 17, La Cream, Kate Ryan, Sukkerchok, Toy-Box, Pulsedriver, Dario G, Darren Bailie of the Guru Josh Project, Space Frog, Janice Robinson Original Livin’ Joy, Paradisio, Robin S and DJ SASH! VS. JAY FROG :-) And Culture Beat was there back in 2017 and 2 Unlimited, Cascada, DJ Sash!, Dr. Bombay, Barcode Brothers, Heather Small the voice of M People, Vengaboys, Corona, La Bouche, Captain Hollywood Project, Daze, Infernal, Cut'N'Move, Rednex, Scooter, Eiffel 65, Right Said Fred, Aqua and Peter André have attended before :-) And the fun thing is that ppl dress up like we are back in the 90s - no matter what age U were back then OR now lol - so there is a LOT of neon colored hair, clothes, shoes and accessories that day lol

I'd recommend two British girl group songs Never Ever by All Saints and Whole Again by Atomic Kitten, great songs, they both reached #1 in the UK charts but were still overshadowed somewhat by the Spice Girls
