Sohyang has said in an interview that this 2014 performance before Michael Bolton was the most pleasing to her personally up to that point in her career because Michael Bolton is one of her absolutely favourite singers, and because he was so effusive in his praise for her she was satisfied that she and her team could produce similarly world class songs and performances. And hey, Michael Bolton told her she was a vocal "virtuoso" after the concert and invited her to join him for the rest of his South Korean tour. How do you beat that? Well, Michael Bolton can offer to take you on an entirely new world tour making you the featured guest--and that is _exactly_ what he did! Unfortunately, or not, the two could not make their schedules match no matter how hard they tried and the tour never materialized. This was actually fairly depressing for Sohyang because she really wanted to go BIG TIME in the music business at that exact moment but everything seemed to conspire against her. Pneumonia problems would crop up and this has been a chronic problem for Sohyang. She would later recognize this as God's way of preventing her from getting caught up in the North American and European music industry that would have been destructive to her character at that time. Sohyang is humble enough and courageous enough to confess she had become so ambitious that she was an ugly person, short tempered with other people and not treating them with proper respect. I know, my jaw hit the floor when I read the interview too! Sohyang a _mean person?_ Say it ain't so! But we all have times where we are embarrassed at how we behaved and Sohyang is just a human being, like the rest of us. Two years later in 2016 Sohyang was almost ready to quit the entire music business because her health problems were so bad. Yet she had given her truly immortal performances of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Arirang Alone," "Everyone" and "I Have Nothing" only the previous year in 2015, and "The Prayer" and "Power Of Love" in 2014--songs _any_ diva who has ever walked the earth would _kill_ to have in their repertoire! So she plundered her bank account and took a trip to New York, Boston and Philadelphia. In the latter city Sohyang saw a quote from President Franklin Roosevelt where he had said in his inaugural address during the Great Depression of the 1930s that "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." This proved so inspirational for her that when she got back to South Korea she entered the "King of the Masked Singers" contest in 2017 and won it on six consecutive occasions! Still the pneumonia dogged her so badly she knew it was God's way of telling her she had to reassess why she had become a singer in the first place. And that was to sing to lift people's spirits who were going through hard times. In 2018 David Foster himself did eight concerts with her at Tokyo's Blue Note Club and it is thought he offered to be the producer for new recordings of her. But she had been really reconsidering her purpose in life and decided the Hollywood lifestyle was the last thing she truly wanted, and in 2020 she turned down a contract offer from Sony Music US, _the 2nd largest music corporation in the world!_ And there were many others before that going back a decade or so! Since then Sohyang has been resolute in her decision to stay away from the music "industry" and manage her own career for the purposes she had started it all with. I for one can't express how happy I am she has chosen the path she did because she is one of the most inspirational people I have ever come across in my entire life, and I know countless others feel exactly the same way. 👌😉💖💖💖 And here is what Michael Bolton told Sohyang after this performance. She is laden with more singing talent than I've ever seen, and such strong ambition that obstacles seem to fall whenever she trains her sights on them. She is by far mine and countless others' favourite singer now. I only discovered Sohyang in the fall of 2018 and I'm not even a fan of the diva genre, but when you see and hear her perform things no one else can do, your jaw just hits the floor and you have to confess she is by far the best female singer I have ever seen in my 66 years on the planet. At age 46 and in this year of 2024, Sohyang is still able to perform her 2015 rendition of "I Have Nothing" and has done so flawlessly numerous times. How can a person account for this level of superhuman singing ability other than to acknowledge that she has divine help, something she has stated plainly on more than one occasion in times past. Personally, I think for people who have followed her closely, this entire past 15 year period will truthfully become known as the Sohyang Era. How far forward she can push it remains to be seen but I would never bet against her. On a different note, are you going to review Kevin Costner's "Horizon" part one movie? I have seen it and it is colossally great! I hope you can gain access to a theatre where it is playing or stream it online. This a tremendous story and the acting and dialog is all topnotch. Just keep in mind that it is only the first installment of four and that the different threads of the story will obviously take some time to resolve themselves on the journey to the mythical town of Horizon over its approximately 12 hour span. This is something those raised on comic book adaptions to film can't seem to wrap their heads around, so they make no end of unfounded criticisms and accusations. Pay no attention to them. This film is epically great, and aimed at a more knowledgeable and mature audience. I am sure you have the patience to realize and appreciate these things. 👀😏🤣😂👍💖💖💖

I will say something that is either risky or obvious. I'm not sure which, but here it is: Sohyang does NOT SING in the usual meaning of the word. She has two God-given gifts. First, her voice, which is a superb musical instrument - think Stradivarius. Second, she is an absolute musical genius who is a virtuoso at playing that instrument. This combination is unmatched. It propels her to unexplored heights. Too often, that causes vocal coaches, voice experts, artists, and critics, who encounter her for the first time to betray their disbelief by attempting to give her a singing lesson, and then to never mention her again. From here, I can reach out to everything that is happening, a world of entertainment, and a trove of memories, all just for the searching. I am still amazed that, by pure chance, the image of a pretty Korean girl flickered across my screen. I stopped to see, and found a lady with a voice and an innocent nature like no other, who can reach out of that little screen across distance and time and generations, and captivate your heart. I remain enamored with that lovely person. Well said, I am so sick of people giving Sohyang a hard time, I don’t want to generalise but a lot of these comments come from fans of one of your other fav singers that you have reacted to, we all know who, and I don’t know if there’s an element of jealousy going on, why else would you want to be negative about Sohyang, she’s the person that you just wouldn’t want to give a hard time as she is the most talented, brave, beautiful soul that ever walked this earth. I think the only way to put these people in their place is for more people like yourself, that are extremely knowledgeable about all things to do with singing, to point out that they are talking garbage & hopefully they may start to disappear in to background. BTW, I am all for personal taste in these matters, we all have our favourites, the world would be so boring if we all thought the same, but to give a singer a hard time about there skills, when it’s is totally not deserved, in order to ‘support’ your personal favourite is childish & just not very nice.
