I really need people stop referring to introversion/passive relations as ”anti-social”, because THIS is what the word means. Anti-social is destructive, not passive or dismissive.
@ostwelt
@ostwelt 3 месяца назад
It should be "Anti-Societal" PD given that 100% of the population knows that anti-social is indeed to not like social occasions. But go ask the introverted psychiatrists in DSM IV why they f*&k'd this up. Because indeed the whole daft definition of ASPD is unworkable outside of prisons. Hence, the continued common usage as psycho/socio-path. Whereas 99% of the descriptive terms I learnt 50years ago are now, rightly, cancelled. But not these, go figure US psychiatrists?!?!?!

Yes, I've heard a lot of people call someone who is actually just an introvert antisocial. My new neighbor once told me I couldn't be antisocial and live next door to her. She is clearly quite my opposite as I am definitely an introvert and when she first moved next to me she would knock on my door every. Single. Day to ask me or tell me something she could have texted or called. I think we almost drove one another crazy for the first three months. I had to tell her several times I didn't have anything against her, I just prefer to keep to myself a lot. We do often have conversations now and we help one another and share food when one of us has something we may have to share. But when I have a lot on my mind I just want to be alone to be able to think about things bc the more other people give their input the more I get confused. So I generally think about things for a while and when I feel like I have a solution I may run my idea by someone I trust to get their opinion. And I do like her and trust her a lot so I do talk to her about things and she talks to me about her situations. I like people it just takes me a while to warm up and I'm not much of a conversationist and not good at small talk.

Having had my life wrecked by a psychopath, I can say this is almost 100% true. In my case, he knew that most people were not like him- that most other people were not as conniving, manipulative, or pathological, as he was, but he twisted that into feeding his own ego, how much smarter and more cunning and ahead of the curve he was than everyone else around him.

Hey, could you advise on how to deal with people who may have that? Is it better to stay around or to walk away? I know a person who I suspect may have it, but she's planning to see doctors, or at least was planning to. She wanted to see them because of something else, but you never know what may come up, and either way, maybe she'd change after. I don't know if I should wait for it, this time doesn't seem to be coming yet but she was planning to few months ago ;; I care about her, but it's really difficult, and she hurts me without ever seeming to acknowledge that She's like... Let's say that you'll say that something she said feels rude to you, or hurt your feelings, so she'd mix you with mud, swear, remind you how little you matter and say tons of hurtful things, and in the end will expect you to apologize and say that she's giving you last chance. I mean! I don't mean to hurt her feelings by saying that she said something rude, so yes, I do apologize. But she says that her actions are caused by you. You made her do all of that. She never apologizes. And just says in those moments, or in general, that if you want her to change you need to change yourself, because she's a mirror of people and it won't work any other way. And she has nothing to do about this all and you're the one at fault. She often says how replaceable people are and reminds you every second that you can be gone from her life. And everyone. I don't know. I don't understand. It's just hard. It doesn't seem like she cares at all often, but then she sticks around in the end? Other than those moments I like her and I feel like I should stay around to protect her for some reason. I don't think she needs it it's just that it feels this way and I don't want her to be alone or leave her idk And it's not just me, she's easy to quit everyone, over the smallest seeming things ;; But at the same time she talks to people in a very unfriendly way and then wonders why people don't want to be around her Idk It's sad She probably doesn't have that, now that I think about it and wrote it all, but something else? I think she has anger issues, and I don't know if these can have them And she does seem to care about having people around sometimes Meaning she did express many times wanting to have people who care about her She says others company doesn't matter that much but at the same time she really wants to have someone physically around her and said that many many times ;; and thing like hugs or head pats or something are things she wants a lot and make her happy so i think she does need people? But I just really don't know what to do about her because she gets angry¿ (I don't know if it's the perfect word) really often and it's really overwhelming but at the same time I'm really attached to her But she doesn't seem to care about me much (or others mostly, but that still doesn't make it easier)

@@er3275 This feels so familiar that I wonder if I knew the same person years ago (it’s more than likely a different person). She was exactly like this, with a few other personality traits along these lines. She was just a friend; we never dated, but she was obsessed with thinking I wanted to date her. Trust me - I didn’t. She had multiple boyfriends at all times and kept them hidden from one another in manipulative ways. She’d have one in town and one out of town, so she would never get caught. However, I was naive and always stuck around thinking if I’m just patient a little longer, she will eventually appreciate my friendship and treat me with respect. I was wrong. She actually ended our friendship one day at a restaurant. She used to order food, eat most of it, then complain so it would get comped. One day she ordered a salad and did that, then told me “I don’t think the waitress was very happy about that” in an angry way. I said in a very tentative manner “Well, to be honest, the salad was fine and you’ve done this before at this restaurant.” She absolutely lost her cool in the restaurant and never spoke to me again. And you wouldn’t believe how kind I had been to her for 7 yrs, going out of my way to be there for her when she was never there for me. She still owes me thousands of dollars that she manipulated out of me, but I’m so much happier to just not deal with her abusive insults and manipulations on a daily basis. A couple of her family members called me a couple months later just to say sorry she treated me so bad for so long. The crazy thing is - she was a therapist. If I were you, I would think of a kind way to just explain that your relationship/friendship is not good for your mental health and you don’t deserve the abuse, then walk away. You’ll feel stressed for a bit, but over time you will be much happier. I know I do, and I’ve even had a few friends tell me they are so happy to see me not feeling down and anxious all the time now that she is out of my life. Sorry for the long response, but this is honestly just a small sample set of the things she did (on a daily basis haha!) Good luck and I wish you well!

@@Zura_Lanch I have heard this. My ex was not a conventionally attractive person but was very charming, and inexplicably would get really attractive partners. He used to work in a psych hospital and one of the nurses told him, “I would bet money that you have Narcissistic Personality Disorder.” For a lark he took the MMPI (administered by her) and what he told me he is that he scored with “elevated symptoms of narcissism, sociopathy and histrionic personality,” so I always kind of leaned on that because it’s believable, but everything these people say is a lie. I’ve given up long ago trying to encourage him to dress a little better but then I guess it’s good I save on clothes for him. He is supremely selfish and loves to overspend money we should spend on fixing things around the house or the vehicles on more and more guitars, speakers and stereo equipment than we can ever use. One of the biggest let downs in my life was learning just how dark and manipulative most people actually are. I always believed that everyone was somehow better than me, or understood something about life that I did not. I now see that I am the one with a unique intellect, and that while others are more manipulative than I am, I absolutely have a far greater general intellect and have accumulated much more knowledge than my peers. Cheated with both men and women, found people easily manipulatable, targeted Empaths (like me)…and constantly accused others of things he was doing. He would tell me stories about his coworkers that were doing all the things he was doing. This guy was sick in the head, like not human. I was lucky he didn’t steal me blind and was nonviolent. It was five years of madness. I never dated again. I have never trusted anyone since. I studied ASPD to understand what I experienced. He operated like people were just like him like she said; and I operated like people were just like me. Neither of us had it right. Until I met him I assumed most people were kind and good. So… the teacher thought something might be wrong with you and there was. 😔😕 Do you know that if you work in education it is actually illegal not to report behavior that you’re concerned about - particularly if you suspect abuse. You ended your post by admitting there were serious problems going on that she (or other adults) didn’t know about and that’s why you were behaving this way. You used the word abuse. Perhaps you’re looking at the story without the full picture. Because as soon as you said you were a child who was experiencing abuse, I was immediately more upset that the psychiatrist didn’t pick up on those clues. The teacher was around you daily, the “expert” just once (I assume). It sounds like you got your villains swamped. So sorry you experienced trauma. No child should have to. Psychopaths don’t have that sense of union that the rest of us get from compassion, emotional empathy, and/or love. Because they don’t the union between them and other lives, and can’t feel love, they see other people sort of like players in a video game. They’re things. They “love” their families in a way that you “love” something that is yours, so it’s an extension of you. Because they’re not able to feel a whole spectrum of feelings, they don’t see the world through a morality lense. They see the things they’re not supposed to do simply as rules, without really “getting” why it would be wrong. They just know there’s consequences. That is because to them, it’s not right or wrong, to them it’s all mental- “is it beneficial or not?” “Do I want this or not?” Psychopaths can get social skills and develop mental empathy. Meaning that they can mentally try to understand how someone feels or why someone feels a certain way, but it’s textbook to them. It’s not something they can truly feel themselves, so they aren’t capable of putting themselves in that person’s shoes.

@Crayon4632
@Crayon4632 17 дней назад
Sounds like a very simplified explanation to me. I think it's time people drop labels and start recognising that for most people evil is a choice and a spiritual force. Even kids can be evil but the difference is their brains aren't mature enough to process consequences so some don't fully process the effects of their actions until they're older. And they might look back and think "I can't believe I did that". So much is not fully within our understanding and I find it kind of amazing how we try to simplify issues or behaviour down to single words like "psychopathy". Sometimes it's a mystery why people do the things they do. And I think this is a reminder that there is something greater than us, than the here and now. It can't be reduced to clinical terms. The clinical terms are just a basic way of trying to understand it.

That or "true psychopath" must be extremely rare or not what most people think it is. At the end of the day all we really know is that we know nothing, and that labels are mainly a way of trying to simplify our understanding of the world. She was verbally abusive to my mother and she took it. She felt bad for her. My other sister would play nice for holidays, and again I stopped going. Then in 2016 she suddenly died- heart attack and I believe drinking and a lot of meds( she would claim everyone was an alcoholic). When we went to her apartment- wow- so many bottles and some glasses were filled. I felt bad for my mom- it was her daughter- her first born. But I felt nothing. What’s so SAD is that religion can be weaponized (as well as used for cognitive empathy guidelines for those without felt empathy for others) and the same thing for atheism! It was crazy listening to atheists using “science” to justify sexism and using twisted philosophies to justify the “necessity” of massive human depopulation. I’m glad I spent time in that community because I learned, some people may not believe in God but they have felt empathy (and therefore kindness) for humanity AND people who will use “science” and Darwinist-type philosophies to justify atrocities -just like religion has done! I just wish more people knew--religion has downsides big time but so does non-loving atheistic darwinistic philosophies. And all people ARE selfish. It’s a survival skill that has evolved from life threatening matters and now is more socially driven. The DSM is largely untethered from a scientific understanding of the mind (which is extremely poor); it's more of a sociological treatise that changes depending on political winds, and its use is important for insurance/drug companies. Psychologists & psychiatrists like to use scientific sounding terms because science is equated with truth, and it bolsters the authority and power that they presume to have over others. 'Narcissistic personality' sounds a lot fancier and more official than 'selfish', and 'antisocial personality' is chunkier than 'mean', but that's all they're talking about.

(Two of my close friends turned out to have BPD) so generally at 25yo I’m very suspicious of people and i genuinely think that every time someone cries or says something nice to me that it is just a manipulation tactic to get something from me that’s why I can’t really express sadness or sympathy or gratitude for that person. He also had like 3 different ID’s and didn’t even have a green card, he told her all that right after she had a kid with him and she got stuck with him, he would steal her money beat and choke her and later he would pimp her out literally and when she left him with her kid and went to a shelter he sued her for assault . He even lied about having pets to seem more nice and kept telling her that they are just at his moms place 💀now she thinks even worse about people than I do and can literally get mad if someone gives her a compliment or smth … so yea I don’t think that those things are psychopathic at all. That's interesting. I always think that MOSTLY other people are good at heart, just damaged. Describes me pretty well lmao

I don’t think that’s true. Cause I think ppl are assholes because I’ve been dealt some really bad dealings with some really bad ppl. Does that make me the asshole. Maybe? Maybe I just came in contact with some assholes 😂!

Yep! Some people are just selfish assholes and think their better than everyone else. Not all of them are psychopaths, way too much psyco analyzing these days. .

Just like you couldn't understand any other personality than you own, to the slightest... Using that type of idea in order to judge people is not brilliant, only a genuinely creepy rhetoric figure!

Sometimes people think that everyone's selfish is because that's all they have experienced growing up, from their parents. That's how their world was really like.

I agree. The fact that people think that other people are fundamentally selfish deep down does not in and of itself make someone a psychopath.

Thank you! It's not always a projection of the self but projection of personal experiences at times. Smh quick bits of psychology are not helpful when they put out or perpetuate blanket statements- referring to the video

She wasn't saying that if you think other people are selfish deep down, you're then inherently psychopathic. She was saying if it's grouped with the two other attributes (while you are deeply selfish as well), that's then the giveaway. Big difference.

Families can be narcissistic and society promotes a lot of narcissism imo

@@DanielBiceif they truly believe that, then they’ve become just as psychopathic as their parents
