As curiosity inspired by your comment got the better of me, I checked the MOT status of the vehicles shown at 35:10. Not one of them has a valid MOT, with the most recent expiring 3 years ago in 2021. I did some brief reading and vehicles kept in the areas of Eigg, Muck and Knoydart are exempt from MOT due to their lack of a test station. However, you'd still need insurance and road tax as the roads are publicly maintained. If one were to take a vehicle back to "mainland" then it would then need an MOT again.
@@MadsMoto i mean, if you went to the trouble of getting a car into the inverie/surrounding areas, it probably wasn't meant for driving on the mainland lol. the guy probably owned a farm or business that required a vehicle to transport stuff.
Went there a few years ago, walked the Munro's and had a blast apart from the pub which was owned by the most miserable man in the world who wouldn't serve food to hikers and the atmosphere was shit,. The locals were amazing though and a local guy who ran the food shack let us eat in his home. Thankfully the pub is now in the hands of the locals and harmony has been restored to Knoydart. A place you must visit at least once in your life. Great video.
I had a terrible experience with the most ridiculously grumpy owner of the old forge who very grudgingly served us. He was angry that we only wanted a few non alcoholic drinks before the boat to Mallaig came. (We’re out walking with our young son). It was in the afternoon and empty - you’d think he didn’t want any business. I thought it was only us! Glad things have changed as we vowed never to return after the way he treated us.
@@lesley4996 I believe he was Belgian. He refused to serve us any food even though we were well within the time for serving food. We had been wild camping in the hills for a few days and were ready for a good feed. After he refused to serve us a tourist came in and he was served a meal. We left and went to the food shack run by a local who then invited us into his home where he gave us drinks and food. He explained all the locals were boycotting the pub. Thankfully he sold up and the pub is back in the hands of the locals.
Good to hear. A few years earlier, like you after being out wild camping for a few days, we had one of the best ever meals in there (hungry and exhausted after climbing Ladhar Bheinn) so were excited to show our son this amazing pub, so it was doubly disappointing to have the worst ever service. Good to know we can safely return!
I would have checked out the weather report before going on such a trip. THE WEST COAST OF SCOTLAND IS NOTORIOUS FOR ITS WET WINDY CLIMATE. I'D SOONER SIT IN THE TENT WITH A GOOD BOTTLE OF MALT WHISKY. 👍🏴😉

Hello Guys 1st lovely video and big thank you 😊 Little advice from 45 year old wanderer who did a lot of wild river crossings (swamp, flooded areas etc.) Get your footwear off, simply walk bear foot on flat, large stones or if the pebbles are not sharp walk straight through the creek. Hold your stuff as secure as possible (boots can be attached if needed or hidden in backpack top expandable chimney). If possible leave your hand free to have extra balance and support if slipped. Dry, warm boots are a huge advantage especially if you travel over a number of days as wet socks and skin rubs against each other and causes blisters. 2 days is fine but after a few days it gets unbearable and robs your of any joy and in warm climates infections and bugs are drawn by open wounds.
@@nz2blue Haha yeah no. But agree you gotta get the boots off when wading. Gotta keep those feet as dry as possible otherwise it's just miserable and potentially dangerous
I always thought it was silly in scouts, when they told us to jump across the rocks on little fords like that. Bit of showing off, from the older boys more than anything. With my balance wearing a backpack, took more time to hop across than it would to strip my shoes. And less chance of my ass getting wet too
This was really good and the ladies were troopers just like the gentlemen were. Good to see that four people can hike through such conditions, retaining a smile in a sense of humor. I enjoyed this.
It's easy to retain a smile and sense of humor when people don't get to see or witness every moment of the trip. I'm sure when the cameras were switched on everyone put on that smile and charm just as I'm sure when it was off those smiles and charm weren't as prominent.
@@General_Junkie Never know. I've been through trials with people that didn't turn ugly, at any point... And we all came out with frostbite on our eyelids and our fingertips... So we weren't having any fun but not once did anyone get rude with one another.

Yes they did , they stayed awhile , then the situation got untennable . They then withdrew back to hadrians wall . They actually built another wall , the Antonine wall , was short lived . @@DownhillAllTheWay
Good decision not to bash along the ridge. Its pretty tough going in places, and given the wet and windy conditions and your lack of winter gear, good call. For those who haven't spent any time in the teeth of a gale in sleety conditions, the danger of hypothermia due to exposure or taking a tumble and getting in to trouble is very real. Wet and windy is often much more dangerous than very cold but windless and snowy. It is often easier to stay safely dry and warm in the snow than in the wet. Anything below about 8 degrees C or anything with high wind chill, and you need proper winter gear in Scotland.
As a Canadian, indeed I will take frigid temps by themselves any day over wet and windy, even if it's only a slight chill. Nothing robs your body of heat faster than wind + rain. And it's much harder to weatherize for those conditions. No, thanks! lol
eh, if you're in winter gear and you start to sweat, that isn't good either. they were moving the whole time, it probably wasn't that bad. they'd of needed to remove some layers eventually.

Nice video. My wife and I went there in May 2023 (via the boat). We cycled along the coast as far as Airor. It pissed with rain and the pub was still being redecorated! There was a great little cafe where we spent a lot of time waiting for the boat back to Mallaig. But a walk like you did IN THE EARLY SUMMER (no midges) would be really good.
God that was some amazing filming and storytelling. Visual storytelling and music that just makes you feel the soaked Scottish muck with a smile on your face. I don't know how you're both so natural on camera. It's really well done. RIP Piper, poor lass.
I just keep thinking about it. What I think makes this really a piece of art is the unusual and skilled blend of narration, dialogue, walking clips, planning over the map, and musical interludes. Like, I know everyone 'puts that stuff in' when they make a video of a journey, but few really get the balance so spot on with such a sense of ease conveyed throughout. I think your good natured banter and easy-come-easy-go adventuring style here is very well reflected in the editing. This isn't an adventure vlog, it's a composition, and it really shows when one thinks about it a bit.

@@spervuurproduksies I live in the US, those women have boyfriends and husbands in the Ukraine getting destroyed while those women are partying around US with other men. Same thing happening here. Also recently Ukraine started to draft women into the army as well, cuz they are running out of men.
Great video Alex. Sorry to hear about your drone. As an owner of a Mavic 2 Pro (which I think is what you've pictured) there's an issue with the batteries. If they've had a lot of charge/recharge cycles, they expand when warm (i.e. when in use) and this can cause them to escape the clip mechanism that secures them to the drone. If you had an old battery in there then it's entirely possible that the battery was not secured as strongly as it would be with a new battery and that, combined with the strong winds, was the issue. Good deals on Mini 3s and 4s at the moment mind you :)

I just happened upon this video. The scenery is positively breathtaking. It was sort of a bummer when the pub was closed but you stayed positive and continued on to the brewery. I've lived in western Washington State, US and lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada all my life. I've gone on many hikes and camped in rocky, sodden areas for the years leading uip to my 35th year or so. Now, health issues are the norm but for all the hikes, short and long before my physical self took a nose dive my fondest memories are of the shitty days, grouchy people, bug bites, equipment losses, etc. because those times were the most epically good stories to repeat over the warm, cozy nights around a campfire under a full moon in summer! They also held sway during relaxing, lazy BBQs with some of the same friends who shared those dismal hikes. Thank you so very much for taking me along with you on this mad march. I'd love to be able to tag along if you do it again but it's not meant to be so now.

The last time I walked in that area (in June) I walked with a friend to the bothy, then over the pass to the East, to Loch Quoich where we camped the night at the water's edge. The weather was fine, sunny and still, but we could see and hear a thunder storm coming up the loch from further East. We got our tents up quickly and soon the wind was gale force and we got into our tents as the rain started...... Soon the storm was right overhead, with almost instantaneous lightning, then thunder..... I was holding on to my tent as it threatened to take-off....... the strorm passed by after 15 minutes and soon returned to calm, with the smell that lingers after a storm........ No damage done, and no leakage! 🙂 Love an adventure like that.
I lived in that wilderness of Ferns! It's Paradise and your video is Magnificent! I have flash backs sleeping under ferns to be out of the wind and immediately be submerged in windless silence & warmth!

This has given me the poke to drag my future wife into the Highlands, she's never seen a wild Haggis and I'm sure this will be the perfect opportunity. We are well versed in the routines and preparing for Haggis hunting, I have a large trolley, she plays the chanter, we drink whiskey.... Wise us luck for our first Haggis hunt next November, I can't wait to bag a biggun!!! 😊

As someone in the Northwoods of America, the thing that shocks me most is the lack of trees! Practically in the Arctic circle and no conifers? So alien to me. Just green rolling hills. Very beautiful.

I’ve hiked the Appalachian trail one the east coast of US and this brings back so many good memories of shelters and walking in the rain with good friends.

@@ExploringCabinsandMines I've seen plenty of living outdoors vids on RU-vid just never 1 as wet as this , I'd love to tour north America in a huge motorhome or 5th wheel trailer , bit dodgy tho getting out to stretch your legs and you have beers and big cats to worry about, 1 guy got trampled by a huge moose when his tent had blown over , bet that left a few bruises

I have heard of those drones having issues with battery overheating bulging the battery, and pushing the door open and causing them to disconnect mid flight. Water ingress could cause this.
I'm not sure the specs of their drone, however I know my Fimi SE 2022 V2 is waterproof. It will warn you well ahead of time if the flight conditions are dangerous. It is capable of handling 45 MPH winds. I've tested mine in 25 MPH gusty winds, and it handled it well. It is comparable in features to DJI minus the object avoidance (newer model has it now.) If they were piloting a mavic or mini model, that probably wasn't a good choice given the conditions found up there. Drones usually have a fail-safe set by the user in the event of disconnect. They can be told to hold position awaiting reconnect, land or return to home. The Fimi gives you the ability to define all this, including flight height and speed. For a Chinese brand, it's a pretty good alternative to DJI and not intrusive to the pilot in the software.
I completely disagree. I hate 'hiking poles' and would never use them in any terrain nor for crossing streams or rivers. They weaken muscles needed for perfect balance and prevent natural coordination.
@@Globetrotter-1 Agree..I don`t even do any hiking but have always thought walking around for miles & miles on largely flat terrain using those poles is really weird and unnecessary...I think its just a bit of a pose tbh...They like to think they`re Scott Of The Antarctic!!!!!
Beautiful scenery, are there any animals? I always wondered what it feels like in Britain without any large predators other than humans. It seems lonely. Would be lovely country for horseback if weather was a bit better lol! It is stunning.
I think of this as I hike in the Pacific Northwest. There is a trail that passes near where I work and a man was killed by a cougar along there. It must be great to hike where there are no bears or wolves or mountain lions.

one tip for drying socks, gather some dry rocks (not from near a river) and heat them in a fire. Once they are hot enough without being so hot they'll burn your socks, place them inside your socks. they will be dry in no time at all.
Great video. Whenever someone asks me why I return to Scotland again and again I show them pictures and try to explain the beauty and I always feel like I fail. That trek took you right through Scotland's Heart. The Rain???? Hahaha!!! A Scottish kiss albeit a wet one. If you manage to stay dry for more than two days straight....you're a Wizard!
Having watched the film I've got to admire your groups resolve, and I presume you all got back to civilization safely with nothing but a few blisters and a story to tell. BUT in case some other Muppets try the the same thing - you were all completely under equipped . Slip, twist your ankle (or worse ), wet and cold you'll die of hypothermia before anyone even knows you need rescuing. 2 and a half hours looking for a toy! Are you f**king mad. I sincerely hope you enjoy and film many more adventures ( I'll enjoy watching them if you do ), just please take more care.
Have to say I have mixed views about this video. A fantastic part of Scotland but right from the start I wondered if you had checked the forecast before setting off and also I have serious questions about the gear(or lack of it) especially the girls. The down jacket is not waterproof and the girls cagoules are totally inadequate for such weather. They also appeared to have no waterproof trousers. You must have all been soaked to the skin. If the temperature had been lower some of you would have been in danger of hypothermia. I would also have liked to see some info about where you stayed in Inverie and about your return journey. The saving garce of this video as with any about scotland is the scenery. Sorry to be so negative but really....
When they came to the UK they had no outdoor gear at all; I leant them some of my spare gear such as the tent, sleeping bags, backpack and mess kit. The rest they had to purchase and at my insistence this included proper walking boots. There shouldn't be a financial barrier to enjoying and experiencing the great outdoors and yet it still cost them a lot to go with the gear they did. We stayed in the bunkhouse at Inverie; the video ends where it does for a better story arc and narrative structure.
Interesting journey but you two have absolutely failed as gentlemen for those two women, the amount of times I watched you fail to help them through treacherous areas was disheartening, laughing about one of them not having waterproof boots after soaking her feet was just twisting the knife in a bad situation.
Great film and positivity, but the girls especially looked dangerously poorly equipped and prepared for foul mountain weather in Scotland. Sorry to be critical where there are such great vibes and lovely people, but I think your own ambition to get high could have caused a very poor outcome.

I really wanted to say how thankful i and to find this video! I was having a horrible trip and ego death from shrooms but this video is really comforting me when i start going down the bad rabbit holes of negative feelings which i currently am feeling but words cant describe how thankful i am for this experience i could share
