I'm doing the cooking merit badge requirement to cook on the hike next week. I also thought of what I'm going to do for my Eagle Scout project. I plan to do a park cleanup.
As with most requirements you just have to break them down into their simplest parts. Note that there was no elevation gain requirements or even that the hike had to be on a trail. So pick a path that is fast like a sidewalk, level, and fun. So make it epic. I remember my 20 miler for scouts was in New Orleans hiking along Canal Street hiking from the outskirts to downtown, the French Quarter and Jackson Square then along the Mississippi River finishing up at Audubon Park.
Great point Tiger N GA. I have been to New Orleans and that is really cool. My dad - who is a Merit Badge Counselor for about 60 badges - says to always read the letter of the requirements and not to read into them.
4 ten miles and a 20. Requirements were updated since the video. I'm a counselor. A number of scouts are doing it in our troop because they aren't good swimmers. And because they're all working toward the hiking rocker for the outdoor achievement award (100 miles).
Thats very interesting! I just went to my friend’s Eagle Court of Honor and saw Scouting America added an additional Eagle Required Merit Badge “Citizenship in Society”. There are many changes since I was an active Scout. Good luck to you and your Troop. And as a counselor always remember to implement the EDGE method so your Scouts are able to earn success :)
Of the 13 Eagle Required badges needed there are three either/or 1) Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving, 2) Environmental Science OR Sustainability, 3) Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling. For example, I earned Swimming as Eagle Required merit badge and if I earned Hiking it could be counted as the 8 others needed to get a total of 21. www.scouting.org/about/faq/question37/
James Howell that’s enough and will have time to progress as far as you want. You are mature enough to start Scouts today. Sometimes the 5th and 6th graders new to Scouts are not mature enough. I wish you well.
@@jameshowell9938 Also know, that boy scouts is about improving your independence. As in you are expected to figure things out without the constant help of others. I recommend getting a few friends to join with you as well!
