THIS EPISODE
Our time in San Fransisco came to an end and we remembered to go fill the truck up with fuel before attaching and heading out. It is so irritating when we forget! Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge with the RV has been on the bucket list for a long time, and it did not disappoint!
Corey and Leila took a quick hike up to Battery Spenser on the North end of the bridge to get some photos, and then we headed back up the 1 from there. BAD CHOICE! If you guys are going to do this drive with anything as long as our rig (35 1/2ft), take the 101, cut across to Valley Ford and skip the crazy part of the road. We made it through but it would have been an issue if there had been more traffic. We thought we were home free until we were stopped by the tree crew! 😳
Our day got much brighter finding a salt water taffy store (Lily’s favorite candy), and after 8 hours of driving, we finally made it to Glass Beach! We weren’t sure what to expect as Instagram photos can really exaggerate how something looks, but with the help of a kind local and veteran, thank you, Kevin, we got to experience one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. The entire beach was sea glass. As Mainers, we grew up looking for sea glass on local beaches, and it was amazing to find one or 2 really good pieces. Seeing an entire beach made up of those beautiful and colorful pieces of glass was unreal!
Our long day ended with an epic campground right on the ocean. The coast of California is incredible and if it isn’t already, put it on your SOMEDAY list! 🙌

I worked in Ft. Bragg as a travel nurse for 3 months in 2016. My husband was there for about 8 months as a traveling CT tech. I went to glass beach every day I was off. Ft. Bragg also has a botanical garden. Ten Mile Beach as sand dollars- first time I had ever seen live ones. One of my favorite places. Hwy 1 is beautiful and scary, especially when there are slides. The glass from glass beach is so much because of the heavy damage from 1908 earthquake. It destroyed much of Ft. Bragg and they bull dozed it into the ocean. Thank you for taking me back.😊

This is my happy place, actually all of CA. Born and raised in SoCal, move to NorCal when I was in my twenties. Lived all over, spent many days at the beaches in Ft. Bragg. There is a really cool driftwood beach that my kids love to build forts on. Best times were spent over the hill in Ukiah and the Clearlake area. So Beautiful! I have moved on to Southern Oregon since then but I'm still a Cali girl at heart!! Thank you for bringing back so many good memories!!

Just a word of caution regarding the stretch of the Oregon Coast around Bandon/Coos Bay, please be careful about where you camp, the area has a pretty bad meth epidemic going on for quite some time, lots of theft and even a number of murders of campers, especially the free camping areas. There is a lot of smuggling in the area, despite a fairly heavy Coast Guard presence off shore...lots of little isolated little coves and bays make it nearly impossible to keep well-patrolled. Daytime is fine and it's a really pretty stretch, just be secure after sundown.

Thanks again for the Beautiful stunning views. You guys are the best at this of anybody I watch..And I watch some really good ones! Thanks for the Memories!.Been to Ca. at least 6-7×.. Haven't been there for over a decade. But what I didn't tell you and you reminded me of it..YES it is awesome on motorcycle's.We rode our Harleys on this last trip anyway Hwy 1&101. That was absolutely well...words can't even describe it.. We had sunny days everyday fog in the morning but would burn off before noon. While in Bodega Bay we rode down the little I think it was a dead end street where the old-time School 🏠 is.Where the movie The Birds was filmed.. You guys are a little young for that one! 😆 As always safe and Happy Travel Guys 💗💗💗p.s. darn it after all the times I've been there I don't recall going to Glass Beach ugh sure wish I would have. So very cool. Oh well next time I guess 😆 😆 😆 Also😳 the canopy of trees was gorgeous! A lot of those all over Fl.too but different species of trees.😘 sorry I rambled on so long

I remember that movie all to well. I was a little girl then. We lived in an 1800 build brick farm house and one chimney was closed off because of it. At night the Starling birds would sleep and nest in the chimney. Made a lot of noise like the movie. This chimney had the stove pipe hole for the wood stove for downstairs ran through my bedroom and out. I was scared for months. Especially at cherry picking time. The birds were awful. I got over as time went by. Thought I tell you of that silly memory.

@@margaretporkolab7166 😆 yes I was just a little girl too when that movie came out. And I misspoke the whole movie wasn't filmed at the schoolhouse. Just the intense scene where the birds are chasing everybody! 😆 my sister lives in CA. Had to correct me on this 😆

I was raised just north of Bodega Bay in a cliffside cabin that overlooks Wrights Beach. Tell Lilly (sp) that the next time she stops for Taffee she must try the banana flavor. The watermelon rocks too. As far as driving HWY One goes, it's just practice. Our RV club has trailers up to 45 feet that run the road. The worst hairpin turns are a few miles south of Fort Brag. Stop in the town of Mendocino as that's where the TV series Murder she wrote with Angelia Lansbury was filmed. I paused the video to tell Lilly about the Banana and WSatermelon just to restart the vid to see that is what she bought LOL

In 2016 we picked up our very first RV, an Airstream and innocently drove down the CA 1 from Crescent City, CA all the way down to Santa Barbara. We had no idea what we were doing but learned very quickly. It was breathtaking but I was so busy “white knuckling” I couldn’t enjoy it. I recommend anyone drive it in a convertible instead. We did however stay in the most amazing campgrounds with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. One day, we will be back.

Discovered this video by accident and agree with other locals there were more places you could have visited but maybe a future trip with more time in the area. It is illegal to remove glass from Glass Beach but people still collect it, believe thinking a little won't matter without thinking how it adds up over time, so found it incredibly refreshing to see a family not collecting and leaving the glass on the beach so others can see it too. Kudos! Now curious to see what you thought of the Redwoods.

There is so much to see in every area. We do what we have time to see and hope we can got back and do more the next time! Not sure why everyone would want to take the glass as it will all be gone soon if everyone keeps taking it. We had people tell us that they used to take bucketfuls every time they went! 😳 We have been to the Redwoods before but got to see a whole new area of them on this trip! One thing about the take your valuables with you to avoid theft is then you need to not be mugged. The coast has some very beautiful areas. That's a LOT of Glass...We used to live on a lake in South Louisiana (look up videos on Lake Peigneur Salt Mine drilling accident) There was a politician back in the early 1920s who made a cure all drug called "Hadacol". My dad purchased the property where he made his wonderful elixir and salve. When he was told to shut it down, he threw all the glass bottles into the lake. When the tide goes out you can still find the bottles there. Brown medicine bottles and little white bottles the paste was in.

That is one of my favorite roads to drive in a convertible two-seater sports car or hot rod. I used to live six miles from that part of the ocean back up in the redwoods about 8 miles from where you bought your Taffy, and I would take my little convertible seventy-three spider that was extremely rare, up with the top down. I would have to stop to warm up with some hot clam chowder and hot cocoa as the fog would often roll in and the temp drop. People would ask why I didn't put the top back on and crank the heater. One day some bikers answered for me, "that would spoil the ride!" I wouldn't take that road up in an RV. I would take the 101 and then cut across to camp on the ocean. That road is hella fun in a hot rod, but not so much in an RV! Where you stopped for Taffy, there is a wonderful place to get some really good clam chowder! That would have been a fantastic stop for lunch! I used to love to buzz out there in my little old two-seater that was all original.

My father grew up in San Francisco and lived there for over 25 years. It was during the time he was living there that the Golden Gate Bridge was built. My aunt, his sister, walked across the Golden Gate Bridge the first day it was open. She also walked across it 50 years later I believe. San Francisco is my favorite city. I have a lot of family history there. Thanks for sharing some of the video about the Golden Gate Bridge. That road to the headlands is a pretty cool area. Always love to take pictures of the bridge from that side. :D I was also going to tell you, when the temperatures are higher in the valley - as in the Sacramento Valley or San Joaquin valley, chances are it is going to be FOGGY at the coast. Having grown up in Northern CA, any day on the coast is an awesome day for me!! Sir Francis Drake Road would have been a better choice to get out to 1 and drive out to Point Reyes National Seashore.

I can't see the Golden Gate bridge without thinking of my dad. He often spoke of his feelings as they sailed out under that bridge during WWll. When I saw the statue of the sailor, I teared up. He was one of the lucky ones that made it back home. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one driving those roads with a trailer! I was holding my breath, watching you go around some of those curves. We just visited Glass Beach in Fort Bragg CA today. It looked a little different from when you went but I think that’s because it was high tide so not as much beach to see, but there is still plenty of sea glass. You just have to look for the colors. There are complaints that tourists are taking it and that’s why there is less, but keep in mind there is a lot of erosion that has, and is, occurring too. And again, there is still TONS of glass.
