I worked for a Suzuki dealer in the 80s and bought a new '81 PE175 for cost just under $1000. I still own it, stored at my sister's farm. At my first enduro ever, a AMA regional national in Grand Rapods, MN, I placed 5th, where the ground miles that were around130 miles. Bought another '81 for parts a few years back for $300. It might be time to look into some vintage racing.

You got it cheap, because they were non sellers. Suzuki had their cookie cutter assembly line turn out a bunch of the the things, then nobody wanted them....I rode a new PE 175 and cripes, what a slug. It made a little brrrrriiiiip noise and went no where. For some thats all they need.

I have a 1982 PE 175 that I really enjoy. I actually just got it a few months ago. I did own 2 of these in 70’s and 80’s and the full floater suspension was great. The shock is not hardened or anodized so you may be able to rebuild may not if it is worn to much. A absolutely a great motorcycle!

I owned the TS185 and then a few years later the PE175. Like you I was not a talented rider but enjoyed participating and doing some woods riding and enduro. Those bikes were so reliable just gas and go. I had tried other bikes like Bultaco Alpina and Maico radial head...but the simplicity of the Suzuki's were best for my ability.

I rode husky 250s in the early 80s. My buddy rode a PE 250. I always knew I could beat him in the then, just starting out, GNCC races, unless we both ended up with a flat rear tire. This Suzuki back wheel will come off before you could sneeze. Really they had a revolutionary quick change rear wheel. BTW, the GNCC races were all 100 miles in that area. They were even called the Wiseco hundred mile or series GNCC.

My first bike. $50.00 not running, bent shif shaft, no clutch, no kick starter, no rear sprocket, bent brake lever, bent rear brake lever, and more I can't remember, It was 1984. First bike ever, took it apart late Oct. Took all parts to my basement, and by early spring, started it up, and it ripped, lift the front like nothing, smoke the rear on any surface. Think in parts I spent $350, and dropped the kick starter on my first ride... lesson learned, I didn't tighten it while adjusting its angle. So, I push started it from then on 😂, don't stall in mud. Good bike, good times, had to make calls to find parts, and buy the BOOK! So add 75 bucks to the parts haha!

I bought a PE175 nearly 15 years ago. It cost 500 Euros and had only 5000 Km on the clock, completely standard. This is not a trail bike, it is an MX bike legal for the road. Offroad with a good rider it will stay with almost any modern Trailbike. It is pôwerful enough to do trail riding. OK it is noçt a Desert Sled and you won't do the Paris Dakar. The breaks are not very powerful, that's probably an advantage, I suspect more off road accidents are caused yy over breaking rather than over power. For a virtual MX biike the suspension and seat height are quite low. Now I am Five foot Eleven, but I feel severely challenged by a moçdern MX bike seat height. I sold my PE to a friend and bought a Kawaski_300R. Why? I ride in the Fields near my house I meet my neigbous, friends and people fr('om the village, out just walking or walking the dog. The PE is a brilliant bike still today, But it's Noisy and Smelly. Oh dear, I'm an old man.

I hate to go against the grain here. I had a 1980 PE 175 that I raced for a little over a year. To be honest it was far less than one of my favorite bikes. The engine had no bottom end power and you had to wind the heck out of it to go fast. But unfortunately the geometry and suspension weren't up to the task of going fast. It pitched me over the bars at speed more often than any bike I have ever owned. I didn't miss that bike even a little bit after I traded it for a Kawasaki KDX175
