Whenever you bring up a commander, you should read off their costs, stats, and abilities. I and many others like to listen to these videos, and it would even help people who watch it from having to pause and read out the cards every time you introduce a new one. Maybe not for every card, but at least the commanders

I actually prefer it this way. Knowing most of the cards, it feels a lot nicer not to have to skip around.

Yargle and Multani followed by a Traverse the Outlands will will search for and put EIGHTEEN basics into play. Hit him with a Berserk before Traverse the Outlands resolves and your putting your ENTIRE mana base into play.^^ And don't forget Greater Good. With Yargle and Multani that's draw 18 and discard 3... and it's repeatable.

Neyith deck, but I had a 30 power creature and Rishkar Expertise'd into Traverse the Outlands. I only had like 5 basics left after drawing 30 but it was worth it

LOL You sound like me with my Yargltani deck. I actually try to always win via Aristrocrat strategy since it is so easy to win with commander damage. Secret tech for all you fellow Yargltani players out there: Greater Good + Cadaverous Bloom lets you get a ton of mana and card draw, whenever this happens I just win with a giant Exsanguinate. I am surprised how often this deck has won, I posted it on Moxfield type: Yargltani :P

Alistair doesn't have an activated ability. Both of his abilities are TRIGGERED abilities. His second ability is a triggered ability with an optional cost that you can pay. Note the wording. 'Whenever' indicates a triggered ability. Activated abilities are formatted as follows. Cost : Ability
@zackkelley2940
@zackkelley2940 5 месяцев назад
Addendum: Creatures with activated abilities and overrun effects Agatha of the Vile Cauldron- Reduces the cost of activated abilities on creatures and has an overrun effect Kamahl Fist of Krosa and Kamahl Heart of Krosa- Both have overrun effects and can turn lands into creatures Stampede Driver- A small overrun effect but is a 1 drop and can double as a mana dork with Tazri out Ulvenwald Oddity- Transform is an activated ability. The back gives your other creatures +1/+1, trample, and haste

Thanks for making this video and sharing some ideas. My son and I have so many decks and are always looking for unique options. Currently our most unique decks we never see in the wild are Keruga Simic artifacts and Polukronos golgari control.

Happy new year! 🎉 And I think the most unique deck I built this year is my first attempt at building a partner deck. My partners are Rebbec, Architect of Ascension and Glacian, Powerstone Engineer. It's an artifact-based strategy that let's me keep tapping and untapping my permanents to draw and cast every card in my deck to win with either a Laboratory Maniac effect or Approach of the Second Sun. Rebbec is for protection as I'm often going to try turning all my permanents into artifacts, and Glacian is a win condition.

Kaya's Ghostform doesn't work in Eriette through stealing creatures as it says enchant creature or planeswalker "you control" though?

I built two grandeur decks for linessa and tarox bladewing. Some slow casual combo decks around copying your commander and then discard it several times in the same turn to the copys ability

I built 3 unique decks kinda: Cyber Controller - mana rock tribal/bounce. Dump as many rocks and urza land effects. Cast C.C. for like 7-9 bounce him to hand, and repeat. Yarggletani Turbo for Torment - get him on board to ramp w/ Traverse outlands or draw lots of cards (greater good) or Drain for 18 (a black spell). Dump lands in grave. Keep using the 1 of 16 board wipes to keep board clear. Cast a world shaper sac it. Return lands from grave to play. Next turn Cast a Torment for like 55. Had to take it apart as it was pain to fight against due to board wipes. Ghatla/Mavron Beeg Dinos - rather than go small I go big. Smashing face with X X/X trample dinos rather then go wide.

Owen and Blue are certainly unique but they're not the first commander to do this. THAT honor goes to Denry Klin from New Capenna.^^ Owen and Blue also aren't really doing anything busted either. While there are a few spicy counters you can put on Blue (Fate counter from Oblivion Stone for instance) it's mostly stuff temur already has easy access to anyway. Also... it's DINOSAURS. This is a creature type that STARTS at big and goes up from there. They don't really NEED the extra counters to run stuff over... it's just a bit of extra garnish on top. Denry can make even small creatures absolutely monstrous. Owen and Blue make big resilient dinosaurs... into slightly bigger slightly more resilient dinosaurs.

I like the CONCEPT of Gimbal.... but hate the LOGISTICS of it. It's fun digging for unique artifact tokens (or ways to make things into artifact tokens). It's considerably less fun keeping track of what could be up to a couple dozen unique tokens. All for the rather lackluster payoff of.... make a big vanilla creature on your endstep.

In all case, I'm very satisfied by this end of 2023 Year. In fact, I love Dinosaurs (Caverns of Ixalan made me so happy !!), and Jurrasic Park ! I bought just one Premium pack, and I had Hunting Velociraptors !! ❤❤ At more, I had the Gift Bundle for my birthday (thx Mom ❤), and I dropped a sweet Cavern at 30€ (I don't remember the name but it's the rarest of the Non-Extra Set). So, I'm still looking for 3 Dino. in Jurrasic World Beyond Universe : Indoraptor, Indominus Rex & Ravenous Tyrranosaurus.

I was WITH you when you said Brenard... then immediately nodded off when I heard Birthing Pod. Birthing Pod is certainly effective... but it gets stale REALLY quick.

I built a Council of Four politics deck that I call "Kill me Last." The deck lacks an effective win condition, but it has a ton of ways to screw over a single opponent (e.g. Silence) or actively help an opponent (e.g. Secret Rendezvous). All of this incentives my opponents to leave me alone until after they deal with each other. The goal of the deck is to be in the final 2 100% of the time and win that interaction 25% of the time. It doesn't seem like it should work, but it has gone over pretty well with my group.

I don't get your point with Kaya's Ghostform since you can only enchant a creature or a PW you control. Maybe I'm missing something out.

Are you sure about blinking the manifested cards to turn them face up?. I thought what made ixidron so good is that even if the creatures are blinked they don't turn face up
@joedoe7572

It does work. They can't be transformed face up, but if they leave and reenter the battlefield, then they're a new object and enter face up

Most unique thing I built this year was Warhammer tribal featuring Archaeon as the commander. Ended up being entirely too good despite not trying to be because Archeaon is just that powerful
@dapperghastmeowregard
@dapperghastmeowregard 5 месяцев назад
My most unique is prolly Círdan, it runs like 30-40 clone / steal effects, the game plan is basically let everyone put their cool stuff into play, and then do it better. Also made a point of running "worse" cards if they had a political aspect like Fold into Aether instead of Counterspell.

The biggest problem with Ria Ivor is that her ability CAN be nullified. If your opponent can prevent whatever creature you choose from getting through in the first place (fog effects, blocking the creature, or even knocking it's attack low enough that there's no damage to actually prevent) you get ZERO mites. Ria's ability only works if her ability is what prevented the damage. First I would put forth Elenda's Hierophant (from the Blood Rites precon) as a relatively budget addition to the deck. Like Elenda she makes vampire tokens when she dies and with how many drain effects this deck has, she'll get big quick. Have you considered a bit of shadow tribal for this deck? It won't stop fog effects but anything you have with shadow will be effectively unblockable (barring the odd Dauthi Voidwalker). Most creatures with shadow can be had for cheap and there's a few decent options. Dauthi Mercenary and Soltari Crusader are the Black Knight/White Knight variant for the set and can both pump their power. Soltari Visionary makes for some nice, and repeatable, enchantment removal. Dauthi Trapper and Spirit en-Dal can both give a creature you control shadow. Phyrexian Splicer lets a creature temporarily leech one of several keywords from another creature. For example you could take 'shadow' from Dauthi Trapper and give it to some bigger creature of yours. You could also use it on you opponents creatures. You could, for example, remove 'flying' from a flyer that's attacking you and give it to one of YOUR creatures instead. Flying, first strike, and trample are common enough that this will never be a dead card. Stronghold Overseer is also worth a mention here. Not only is it the biggest creature with shadow it also has an activated ability that pumps the power of creatures with shadow while lowering the power of everything else. There are a couple other cards that are worth considering if you have a bit extra in your budget. Nether Traitor is VERY good at recurring itself. Dauthi Embrace is an enchantment that can give ANY creature shadow for BB. Vashta Nerada from the Doctor Who set will work well here. It's indestructible, has shadow, and will get a +1/+1 counter every turn that something dies. Also worth noting is that giving one of your opponents creatures shadow can ALSO be useful (as it will then only be able to block things with shadow).

nullifying ria ivor ability is not a common play tbh imo
@zackkelley2940
@zackkelley2940 5 месяцев назад
@@longdangley I wonder why? You don't need to build around it, even just blocking it will work unless the Ria player has given it protection or some other means of getting through.
