City centre is also not totally safe.. somebody tried to open my backpack from behind inside a public bus in nevskij prospekt. But anyways, no city is safe and it's all about luck. So no business in blaming such a beautiful and historical city.

I used to live near Metro Kupchina back in 2005 to 2009.And I remember we never travel buy metro that time.I can’t believe nothing change still this metro station consider a unsafe place.But that time Metro a Avtova was most unsafe for foreigners as lot of skin heads n hooligan used to live there.

I have been there in St. Petersburg for 7 years (1993-1999) and stayed 5 years at Hostel which is in Bukharestkaya Street -150 (also end of the street) and of course everyday we should go through the metro Kupchina to get our hostel from our university, but fortunately didn't happened any bad at that time. I think the time is changed and the people living there (as you said the outer-side people) are also changed in negative way. In fact at that time also there was little bit threat from outer-side people ("Kafkazi" we do say at that time), but didn't faced any. Anyway, be safe there. Ostorozno !!!
