My favourite breakfast cereal is rolled oats as hot porridge, with sultanas & a bit of milk. Oh and I also have a battery Chainsaw that "lives" in my van, a great tool.

USE your manually operated tools on a semi annual basis, at least...so in case of an actual grid down event, you are to ACTUALLY PREPARED, physically/mentally to use them effectively !!!

Little off subject. Consider if you have animals you have manure. Manure can be composted and the methane gas captured in a digester. Methane supposedly will burn cleaner than propane. A lot of poultry farms used propane powered generators. So any gas engine that is capable of running on propane can use methane. Might not work for chainsaws or weedeater but is kinda interesting.

You can buy battery powered chainsaws and weedeaters also mowers. And I am thinking those linked up can boost a solar gen system

This is a critical tool on my farm, but first learn how to use it safely so you don't trade a mouth full of nice teeth for a mouth full of steel handle. Also, learn carefully how to lower a load with one because they can easily just drop the load suddenly. Powerful, imminently useful, but very dangerous if you aren't careful to use it correctly.

For the homestead working toward the greatest degree of self-sufficiency and independence, having MANUALLY OPERATED tools and equipment - even if only serving in a 'backup' capacity - is highly recommended. I would not limit the choices to garden and workshop gear, but cover the broad spectrum of homestead tasks. If you store bulk grains, for example, having a manual grain mill is essential. If you have lots of clothing to clean on a regular basis, it would be wise to invest in a washboard and hand-crank wringer to make the process very efficient. It's great to have the power tools, but get the manual equivalents too. One more thing: while paper books aren't technically 'tools', any wise homesteader, prepper or survivalist is going to invest in physical books that cover subjects important to homesteading tasks.

@@ferebeefamily It is! I use Colossal Labs whey protein and their Vicious Vanilla is the best tasting vanilla I have ever tasted. Their Wonka Chocolate is like a cheap nesquick flavor and their strawberry is ok but I was pleasantly surprised at their peanut butter which could be called Reese's because its peanut flour mixed in with their chocolate. The best part is it is cheap! Around $70 bucks for 12 pounds in heavy duty reusable buckets. When I am better situated I am going to store each of their flavors at least two deep and replace as they are used up. The buckets I am going to use for rice and bean storage and general usage around a farm/homestead.

Don't forget to caution people about the Silky saws. They are excellent, and I have several... BUT... THEY CUT ON THE PULL STROKE and NOT on the push. I have heard of several times that people broke the Silky's blade by pushing hard like using a regular carpenter's saw. So add "have extra blades" to the whine list (spelling intentional). Those blades are proprietary, and resupply will be nonexistent. In an SHTF scenario, when your spares are gone, the store stock will likely be long gone, too. I like that hoe. It looks like it could work with a shovel for two men to do some serious digging or even plowing. I grew up with my mother telling me about her whole family in the field all day "chopping cotton"... weeding the rows in the cotton field. They made me do a bit of it as a kid to better understand. THAT is the chore I would hate far more than weed eating! You'd also best lay back a supply of barbed wire or wood for fencing, because an electric fence is not going to be much of a deterrent without electricity. Best, Michael from Texas

Grass whips are pretty bomber. You're not gonna clear an acre with one but all that fence line and tight areas of just grass- super light. Another tool I use a surprising amount is a Fiskars pole bypass lopper, the head angle is adjustable and just as easy to use for ground level brush as it is for tree branches- way less energy than a machete and like the grass whip is used standing.

No cereal, sorry. I gave up all grains 4 years ago to go low carb (under 50 net carb grams/day) and lost 35 lbs. and feel great. It takes a week or so to convert to being primarily a fat burner instead of a sugar (carb) burner, but the benefits are quite something. Plus not feeling ravenously hungry 1-2 hours after eating a cereal breakfast -which I used to love, BTW. Now it's maybe steak and eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, and the like...no hunger for about 6 hours or so. Great channel you have.

Your ground must be level...owned several 8N's...hint: occasionally throw glass beads into the adjustment oblong hole in backer plate of the rear rims to help soak up axle oil and create friction for braking. The rear axle seals alway leak, in 52' they tried 2 axle seals each side (extra bump visible on outside of axle casting) it helped....a little .

@pirate0jimmy

What is the coldest winter in your area in the past century? That much wood, plus half again. If you are serious about burning wood for heat and cooking, 4 years worth in a shed getting really really dry over 3 summers before you use it. This is also money in the bank, like 800 gallons of propane in the big tank in the bermed metal shed. In the mild Willamette Valley, I might use 5 cords of Doug Fir in a big house with conventional fireplace insert, but a cob rocket mass heater in a small cottage might cut that to 1.5 cords. North Dakota or Wyoming might be 10x this in a -40F winter. YMWV.
